Show recs for me and my 12 y/o sister?
Me and my baby sister have been watching anime every night for a couple months now, but we’re coming to the end of the one we’re currently on and I don’t know where to go from here. I’m not a huge weeb, very much a casual, so I can’t say I know a ton of shows that would be super appropriate for her. She hasn’t had the birds & bees talk yet, so anything with sexual themes is gonna be out. The shows we’ve watched and enjoyed so far have been:
•Jujutsu Kaisen
•Demon Slayer
•Frieren
•She’s also been watching Sailor Moon by herself since I didn’t really enjoy the first few episodes
I’ve been holding off on showing her FMA because I tried to watch it for the first time when I was around her age and didn’t really get it, so I want to wait until she’s a bit older. I also don’t want to watch MHA with her because I couldn’t get through the first episode without cringing so hard I had to turn it off (no hate, just not for me.) We’re also waiting for my mom to watch Spy x Family, since she wanted to watch that with us.

Could try {Little Witch Academia}
{Medalist} also may be a good one to look into
Edit: I haven’t watched it yet but {Secrets of the Silent Witch} is one I’m going to plan on watching with my kids
Another one I’d recommend is: Campfire Cooking in Another World. Another very fun one.
Gungale Online. It’s a spinoff of Sword Art Online but doesn’t require you to have watched it.
Its like recommending Odd Taxi, sure there are cute talking animals, but everything else is for an older audience.
I’ve gone through both with my 10 year old son. We’ve also done Bofuri and are currently finishing Villainess Level 99.
Disastrous life of saiki k
Mob Psycho
Sakamoto Days
Land of the Lustrus
Reincarnated as a slime!
and of course, I gotta reccomend one piece because its my all time fav. I could prob give more but its hard to 100% remember if they have mature themes or not.
Oh oops, just remembered the beginning where he talks about his hard drive. Yeah may have been a bad reccomendation, but that’s the only suggestive thing I can think of. Either way, my apologies,
Really anything in the magical girls or cute girls doing cute things genres.
I haven’t seen them yet myself but bochi the rock and a place further than the universe are both supposed to be really good.
Cardcaptor Sakura has 0 sexual content in it and 0 fanservice, but has some questionable romantic relationships among the side characters (but the same goes for Sailor Moon, from what I've heard, haven't watched Sailor Moon yet though). The main romance is as normal and as wholesome as it gets. And it does have some action in it, with the whole capturing cards stuff. But what I love about it is the slow burn romance and the slice of life aspects of it, all the characters are just fun to watch interact with each other.
Ojamajo Doremi also has 0 sexual content and 0 fan service, but in the later seasons there's a few episodes that touch on topics related to sexual maturity, like a girl who struggles a bit because her breasts develop earlier than other girls in her class and that becomes a bit of a complex for her. The general feel of this show is much more chill and less action-oriented than Cardcaptor Sakura, and has very little romance in it, it focuses more on everyday life and challenges of a group of pre-teen girls who also happen to turn into witch apprentices and can use magic to solve everyday problems (or sometimes it backfires and creates problems). In general it is a very wholesome anime, but from time to time it doesn't shy away from more serious topics, like racism, divorce or terminal illness, but I really think it nails the treatment of those topics in an age appropriate way, giving them the emotional weight they deserve, but without going overboard with drama like some more mature shows would do. Overall, a great magical girl show with great characters that act mostly their age.
Then, there's something like Teasing Master Takagi-san. It's a straight up romcom, with great humor but some great emotional and romantic moments. And this one is more targeted at early teen boys, but girls will probably enjoy it too. This one has 0 fan service, but has more sexual-adjacent topics in a few episodes, like talk about periods and being self-conscious about having small boobs, or the boy being very flustered when the girl drags him to help her choose a swuimsuit (but it's not shown in a sexualised way at all).
Magic Knight Rayearth
Slayers
Inuyasha
Ranma 1/2
Promised neverland
Karekano
It's like an anime version of a Saturday morning cartoon.
It's peak sports drama. I am a 30 year old man and cried a total of 3 times in the span of 4 episodes (last third of Season 2). Can wholeheartedly recommend to you and your young sister, except for one moment in Season 1 where someone got a bit too touchy-feely. But you can always start from Cinderella Gray!
