It premieres on January 19, 2026. It appears that it will only be dubbed in English for now and will only be shown for one day at a time by the distributor Crunchyroll.
lechepicante2025-12-23 17:30
Oh, and today the film is also premiering in Taiwan as a normal screening!
dagreenman182025-12-23 17:31
Its a good dub, so im fine with that, but it being the only options along with 1 night, 1 showing only is some nonsense. At least there’s 3 theaters in my area with it.
lechepicante2025-12-23 17:34
As I said in another comment, only the big shonen anime get those benefits. I wonder if it's to avoid competition at the Oscars and stifle it.
tripleaamin2025-12-23 17:35
Which is fine. Though usually it is subbed only in these cases. Interesting decision for it to be dubbed only.
This was the same case with Dragon Maid, so I doubt the Oscars play a factor in this decision.
dagreenman182025-12-23 17:38
Shortlist already dropped so it wouldn’t qualify for 2025. More than likely the former with it being admittedly niche show. Still the fact they went with dub over sub is surprising. Maybe there’s data there that shows dub as preffered.
MitsuhaTakiName2025-12-23 18:15
So you’re saying the Watanare movie won’t get a weeks-long, multiple-showing-per-day US release?
sunnydayz572025-12-24 04:00
Wtanare isn't even really a movie. It's technically eps 13-17 and will probably get released as separate episodes once it reaches streaming services.
Salty1452025-12-23 19:33
I mean GKIDS releases usually get a few days and showings across a weekend. It’s just CR that seems to fuck this up.
MrRandomGUYS2025-12-24 09:06
Hell, Angel’s Egg was put to theaters recently and even that had three days and both sub and dub options.
Goldeniccarus2025-12-23 20:25
It might have been a struggle to get it in US theatres at all since it doesn't have as large an audience as many of the other anime that had wide releases this year.
One show a night, just the dub as that will appeal to a wider more casual audience (and the core viewers who'd prefer subs but really want to see it in theatres will mostly go to the dubbed one because they don't have an option for subs), gets it in theatres at all, which is a win.
ali941272025-12-24 01:25
Honestly, it's a pretty strange decision. I'm a fan, but I'm not gonna watch it dubbed just because it's the only option.
PM_ME_YOUR_SPUDS2025-12-23 20:31
Uhhh it's a good dub for what it is, but I don't want to watch my music anime dubbed the first time through. I want the OG lyrics to match the voice actors, that's a big part of the fun for me. I don't think that's a lot to ask, I'm not giving them money for what I feel is a worse experience, even though I'm a big big fan of the series.
Vopyy2025-12-24 00:59
I think only S1 had dub for the songs, not sure if movie has it or not.
UGamer812025-12-24 11:54
Yeah, S2 didn't dub the songs. From my understanding, they weren't able to get the rights to dub them unlike in S1.
Salty1452025-12-23 19:32
That one day shit is ridiculous. At least put it not on a random weekday
NightsLinu2025-12-25 02:10
Same misses maid dragon
PogChampHS2025-12-23 21:44
Only English means I gotta skip zzz
Whatah2025-12-24 05:14
That date has to be wrong, if it is only in theaters 1 night why would they make it a monday?
YoshiYogurt2025-12-24 06:38
Dragon Maid was also a Monday. I took the day off for that, probably will have to do the same for this.
At least crunchyroll is making an effort to do their Monday movie nights.
Dragon Maid was popular enough in the US where I expected it.
Zombieland Saga is a pleasant surprise, but please not dubbed only.
Whatah2025-12-24 06:53
Yea, but my 12yo daughter is caught up with the series and is excited for the movie. So of course we are going to see the musical based anime that she loves in the theater. It just sucks that it is a school night, that should be a no-no.
YoshiYogurt2025-12-24 06:55
It is odd to me that you let a 12 year old watch Zombieland Saga (not that it's super inappropriate or anything), but watching a 90 minute movie at 7pm is the issue here.
HuTaosTwinTails2025-12-23 17:21
1 day at 1 time?
Guess I'll wait for it to come to Crunchyroll
lechepicante2025-12-23 17:24
Unfortunately, only popular shonens have benefits from a normal projection. For the rest of the anime it's like: "Settle for a one-day screening and stop crying."
Purposelygentle2025-12-23 17:27
It’s part of their Anime Cinema Nights program. They did it for the Dragon Maid movie too. Presumably, this means they’ll put it on streaming sooner rather than later which is technically a consumer win, but a cinematic filmgoer loss.
HuTaosTwinTails2025-12-23 17:52
Yeah, I wasn't able to see that movie either. The only cinema that shows anime movie nights isn't close to me so I have to plan these things and have time to go. So I doubt I'll be able to see them until they come to streaming.
66Kix_fix2025-12-23 17:28
This show is unironically one of my favorites. Perfect blend of CGDCT, Idol culture, and drama.
tripleaamin2025-12-23 17:30
FYI, it looks like the only showing is dubbed. Though I heard the dub is good, so maybe I'll try that and see it with my mom.
TheFrogPrints2025-12-24 06:03
The "GET INSIDE THE VAAAAAN!!!" scene alone sold me on the dub haha. I think it's worth it.
YoshiYogurt2026-01-07 19:49
That is pretty much the only decent part of the dub because it’s mostly Kotaro.
F33372025-12-23 17:33
Yamada awakening?
rocky_iwata2025-12-23 17:33
Will Brina and Co sing this time around?
Originope_992025-12-24 07:08
Very unlikely
I still haven't seen S2 yet because I'm still pissed they intentionally chose not the dub the songs for S2 just so they could shit out the blurays faster...
BosuW2025-12-23 17:35
There's a Yamada Tae backstory manga in case y'all haven't heard btw
Dunno if it will be relevant at all tho lol
lechepicante2025-12-23 17:37
A little. But the movie confirms that it's canon.
ahses32022025-12-23 17:48
Finally I've been waiting for months! I missed the dragon maid showing so I'm glad I caught this one.
ArcTray_072025-12-23 17:59
Watched the movie on japan and it's honestly my favorite part of the series, including S1 + S2, really recommended.
Bigons32025-12-23 18:08
LEGENDARY YAMADA TAE!

AkhasicRay2025-12-23 19:14
Ugh no nearby showings unless I wanna go to the next town over. Little chance of it, but I guess I’ll hope that potentially something closer gets a listing as we approach the date. If not then I guess I’ll hope it comes to streaming soon after because I’d really like to see this
kwokinator2025-12-23 19:22
This sucks. I've been looking forward to the movie for months and I wouldn't even mind the one day showtime, but dub only is absolutely a dealbreaker.
Guess I'll just need to wait another couple of months for it to come to CR subbed.
farhanganteng2025-12-24 03:42
Why a dub is being a dealbreaker to you, even if the dubs were decent/good
Phyrexian_Overlord2025-12-24 05:33
Why in the world would those of us watching the original soundtrack want to suddenly switch for the conclusion?
kwokinator2025-12-24 06:14
Why would I watch the dub now when I spent 24 episodes getting to know the characters and their mannerisms in Japanese?
Besides, if you're deep enough into the seiyuu rabbit hole, you'll know Kotaro is practically made for Mamoru Miyano to play. No matter how decent the dub is, it's never going to match Mamo.
zechroa2026-01-07 09:37
The dub is actively bad. Offensively bad. It turns one of the most unique and entertaining characters in anime into a boring, mediocre side character, acted with the enthusiasm of a dead slug. No way in hell am I going to go watch the conclusion of a series I love with a dub that ruins it.
Environmental-Ad55082026-01-15 14:11
I wonder why they went qith the dub showing over sub, would figure sub more popular
Kadmos12025-12-23 20:05
I wish the second season had the songs dubbed into Eng., or if said season did, for CR to upload that version.
Magma_Dragoooon2025-12-23 22:37
It seems like I am the only one who bounced off of S2. Somehow it felt like it became a different show for me compared to the peak that was S1.
I guess its the fact that they tried to explain things and tackle the mysteries in detail which frankly felt unnecessary. You now how some things better left unsaid.
carenard2025-12-23 22:43
your not the only one.
S2 alot bounced off of, S1 came with the surprise factor... S2 was just another idol show.
JRPictures2025-12-24 00:35
Worth noting Crunchyroll don't have to do this nonsense one-day sessions with solely the dub.
In fact the upcoming Australian cinema release, that we can safely assume is being handled by them, has both sub and dub versions listed by one of our major cinema chains and at minimum will likely run for maybe a week or two since the release date is Jan 22 (a Thursday which is the standard day for new release films) compared to Jan 19 which is a Monday.
Well if this is the case for NA, I guess it's impossible to get a screening in South Asia, though I was half expecting it anyways.
Looking forward to streaming it!
Lizuka2025-12-24 06:07
I've watched through the show both ways so I would've been fine either way, though given the choice on this kind of thing I'd generally go with the dub. Wish both were available though.
jonjonaug2025-12-24 06:16
One night only, with just one showing, on a random weekday, with the English dub.
Crunchyroll is fucking terrible, christ.
zechroa2026-01-07 09:40
It's so offensive that I'm cancelling my membership.

I was in Japan when they were showing this in theaters, even got a picture of the big billboard they had in Akihabara! Of course tho no theater had English subtitles so I thought that's fine it'll come out in the US someday and I'll go see it then........now your telling me it's one day only and dub only.....f that! I should have just watched it while in Japan! I'd rather half understand it in Japanese then understand it fully in English!
