Recs for tough to please family!
Hi! Family is all home for the holidays but we cannot land on any movies or western TV to watch together. Thus we are turning to anime.
My dad is a big anime enjoyer and the rest of the family are more casual watchers. My dad’s favorite genre is isekai (yeah, I know) so we were thinking something within that genre. The rest of us are all adults but would prefer something more lighthearted versus dark/edgy/too fanservice-y, and something not too long so we could finish during break. The last one we all enjoyed together was Black Clover. No idea what my dad has or hasnt seen but he’s been into webtoons lately so I think a newer one might have slipped by him. Would love some recommendations from yall. Thanks!

I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Well, no, it's not isekai, but please nobody reprimand me for suggesting "Dungeon Meshi". It is a fantasy story with a serious plot/world and a light hearted and comic tone.
If for some reason the "fantasy world" is optional and you want to prey on your family's mammalian heart strings, "Medalist" is awesome on both the comedy and the emotionally cathartic side.
If you must watch isekai no matter what, I can only recommend "Ascendance of a Bookworm". As abysmal as its production values may be and as slow as its initial pacing is, it's the best one out there.
Best of luck in finding something even better than these!
The Faraway Paladin - No fanservice, pretty serious undertones with some funny bits. Appropriate for any 10 or 12 and up crowd.
The Apothecary's Diary - chill detective drama with lots of comedy and a bit of "will they, won't they" romance. A bit of fanservice, but it's appropriate in the setting and not just for pervs (mostly cleavage during scenes where the apothecary is treating concubines).
More Monster Meat, Milady? - New series. Animation is a bit weird, but good fantasy setting with a slow burn romance and lots of comedy.
Isekai:
Campfire Cooking in Another World - No fanservice, 12+ rating. Cheesy isekai where the MC has access to Amazon's food and cooking sections. Lots of neat recipes, decent story, zero fanservice. S2 just finished.
The Water Mage - Mostly clean fun. OP MC wanders the country getting into mostly small time mischief, but occasionally ends up in a serious battle. Good characters, a bit of cleavage but I can't recall any panty shots or weird angles just for fanservice. There are a couple of dark/edgy scenes, but they're spread out.
Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire - Not technically isekai, but man reincarnates as a swordswoman. A few female "locker room" moments, arguing over boob size, etc, but most of it is just the MC being OP and fighting everyone she comes across.
The Great Cleric - A couple of dream sequence cleavage shots, but the character literally has zero libido. Good action, lots of comedy, MC starts off weak sauce and becomes OP over the course of the series.
Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibouken 2020
Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen
- Uncle from another world
- Dungeon black company
These two anime are light hearted and quirky but also a bit more unique. They are memorable. There are literally isekai where I will watch episodes in and realized I already watched them. These ones I have not forgotten.
- How a realist hero rebuilt a kingdom.
This one is decently written, and interesting, also unique, but a but more serious then the previous.
Not isekai but, Ranking of Kings is a good fantasy anime. Very unique art, I love it.
Honestly just watch Plur1bus. Anime is good and I love the medium but their stories, once you get use to Japanese style/tropes, are just not as good imo.
