Tried a new genre, my dress up darling. what have I been missing?
My dress up darling wasn't the kind of anime I ever had interest in, but after seeing a funny clip and saw the really high scores... well I was kinda blown away.
I already looked up other suggestions and started toradora. While it is pretty good, its a lot more drama oriented. I was kinda hoping for more of the ...I'm not sure of the tags it'd go by... but more happy/feel good? like how my dress up darling was.
Thanks for any help! *I really did look up suggestions already, but no one seemed to distinguish the good ones between drama focus and happier focus.

Honestly I dunno if I've ever seen a romance without at least SOME down. Like even Kaguya-sama throws them in.
Pseudo Harem is a weirdly fun story that tells the entire arc in 1 season. The name is even more literal than you think, it is about 2 high schoolers, the girl is a great actress and she plays all the common romcom tropes as alternate personalities so the boy can experience having a harem. It is REALLY silly and adorkable.
The anime is also very good
Aka was intelligent enough to break the tropes of romance manga, but probably has never consumed romance books, plays or films, so he immediately went to the secondary characters after the confession, because it was easier to write.
Technically there is more material from the manga but Season 3 left it at a good place. It was satisfactory and anyone could look up the manga chapter to resume from if they would want to.
[Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/14741/Chuunibyou_demo_Koi_ga_Shitai)
edit: Gekkan so far just seems like a comedy, i'll watch a couple more though.
As for feel-good anime, I really like ‘Say I Love You’ - it’s a short one, and there are some mature themes, but the overall theme is that hard things happen, but you can overcome them when you have someone who cares about you by your side.
I loved it, and it was on Hulu last I saw it.
I think Horimiya and Wotakoi might be good picks for you. Unfortunately neither finishes their adaptation, so if you want to know how their stories end you have to go to the Manga.
But please give it a few episodes. The first few are bad. Then it gets cuter and cuter and cuter and oh my God it's the cutest thing ever. Just let it cook.
The first three episodes have the cats in the library scene, Ichikawa distracting the class from Yamada crying, the bike sacrifice scene, taking the blame for Hara, the selfie by the
map, the gifting of the drawing, Ichikawa realising his feelings, and the giving of the tissues That's all great stuff, and a bunch of setups for later payoffs.
Too Many Loosing Heroines
Just fantastic in every way
Horimiya is also a good one
\- Kimagure Orange Road: it's an 80's romcom about a teenage love triangle. While the characters behave quite realistically (for teenagers) and there's a bit of conflict, the series itself is mostly lighthearted and there's very little actual drama. The comedy comes mostly from the situations and some misunderstandings, and also about how the main characters uses his special powers (mostly teleportation and telekinesis) to navigate the situations he puts himself in. There are some spicier situations with sexual tension, but the actual visual fanservice is way milder than today's standards of fanservice. Because during the anime series the characters return to the status quo for almost every episode, it has an episodic feel to it, but there are subtle ways that show that some changes are made in the character's relationships. The movie that concludes the story is way more dramatic (still great, though, one of the best portrayals of a relatively tough break up in anime), but it is to be expected as a resolution for a love triangle.
\- Teasing Master Takagi-san: this one is a very funny romcom, with 0 drama and a lot of genuinely funny moments, but also some very, very sweet moments as well. The characters are in middle-school, so no fanservice, there's some rare sexual-adjacent discussions (such as a girl's period or being self-conscious of having small breasts), but all very tame and wholesome. Also, this one is episodic too, a lot of the episodes are broken up into several short stories, but, while at first glance, they seem unrelated, there's actually a feel of continuity and progress in the relationship (a couple of episodes are flashbacks, though). But the actual romance is a very slow burn, as the whole 3 seasons + movie is basically a teenager slowly getting to understand and accept that what he feels for her classmate/friend is actual love (the girl knows that she has romantic feelings for him from the start).
\- The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten: this one is pure romance, not much comedy, but also not that much drama. The main characters both have trauma in their past, but during the actual plot their relationship helps both of them heal, so the drama is actually almost 0. There's open talk about sexual attraction, especially in the second half, but the actual visual fanservice is even tamer than in Kimagure Orange Road. Overall, despite the lack of comedy, this is a very wholesome and feel good anime, very diabetic.
this one was perfect and more of what I wanted, thanks!

My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999
Also recommending Dangers in my Heart, Lovely Complex, and Skip Beat!.
Horimiya is another slice of life romance.
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 is also pretty fun.
I'm not really looking for laughs, just the feels good.
I enjoyed romance and gave a chance to love polygon/harem anime and there's pretty good stuff in there like Oregairu, Sakurasou, Toradora, The Quintessential Quintuplets, Fuukoi, Nisekoi and Bokuben are some animes I enjoyed a lot too after watching Kisekoi. My personal favourite is Sakurasou followed closely by Oregairu but I think most people will enjoy Oregairu more for some reason (and it has better ratings overall). Some of these animes have long ass names but if you google them with the abbreviates I gave you, you'll find them anyway.
Sakurasou has a lot of comedy but also some heavy drama mixed, although sakurasou is more moving than It is sad so I enjoyed the drama parts more than Toradora, and then the comedy I laughed a lot more than with Toradora so It's an overall better experience IMO.
Tsuredure Children - depicts various scenarios of young love coming to fruition, along with the struggles and joys that it entails. [https://myanimelist.net/anime/34902/Tsurezure\_Children](https://myanimelist.net/anime/34902/Tsurezure_Children)
This is a really cute romance show that surprisingly has romance. It's unfortunately a short show with each episode being 12 minutes, but each episode is jam packed with impressively funny wholesome romcom moments.
As for the genre as a whole you can put most of them on a siding scale of wholesome and fluffy to more drama focused. Personally I love both and great series will have aspects of both too even if they tend towards one side. For me, the more serious character moments in Dress Up hit because they contract with the light hearted general tone of the series. Each epsidoe put such a smile on my face when it aired this summer.
Anyways a few recs for some of my favorite romance anime
More Wholesome/Fluffy: The Dangers in my Heart, I’m in Love with the Villainess, Skip and Loafer
More Dramatic: Bloom into You, Bunny Girl, Blue Box
Blue Box doesn't just use it's sports setting as window dressing, but brings over a big trope from sports anime that the rival teams want to win just as much of the MCs and a lot of the times deserve it just as much if not more. I still recommend it, but you might not feel as immediately happy or satisfied as compared to Dress-Up.
I haven't rewatched Toradora in a minute, but from what I remember that show is heavier than Blue Box so I feel it would be a nice middle ground.
Smile Down the Runway
is pretty good. It's about a runway model and a designer who makes her clothes to wear. Very similar vibes!
