I've seen people concerned about Champignon Witch because the studio adapting it has pretty bad reputation. Since I firmly believe that "studios don't make anime, people make anime", I looked up director's resume... and it's even worse lol.

baquea2025-12-24 13:04

> Since I firmly believe that "studios don't make anime, people make anime"

That's only really relevant for large studios like J.C. Staff where the quality can vary a lot depending on which team is working on the project. For a small studio that has only ever released trash? It's unlikely they have anyone working for them who is capable of carrying it through.

Korkez112025-12-24 13:16

I'll just copy my old comment:

>Studios that made my favorite anime of this Summer and what were they known for before:

>The Answer Studio (absolutely nothing except for Tower of God... season 2);

>Lesprit (a bunch of kids anime);

>Gokumi (Yuki Yuuna is a Hero and way too much of isekai and/or harem slop);

>Enishiya (complete newbies)

Plus ENGI with Medalist.

neighmeansno2025-12-24 14:44

Some of Dahlia actually looked pretty good and that was the same director at the same studio.

Ocixo2025-12-24 15:30

I can still vividly remember the straight-cut shadows of Dahlia in Bloom…

IXajll2025-12-24 16:01

Well yea, that would most likely be the reason why they said "some". And I gotta agree with them, sure stuff like the shadows stuck out like a sore thumb, but in general it didn't look *too* bad all things considered.

flamethrower22025-12-24 15:38

I don't think I care that much about animation quality. To me, Ex-Arm was unwatchably bad, but I watched Potions Save Me this season and With Vengeance Sincerely, Your Broken Saintess and had a good time with them. Also had a good time with Chronicles of the Go-Home Club a long time ago.

_Ridley2025-12-24 17:48

> I've seen people concerned about Champignon Witch because the studio adapting it has pretty bad reputation.

You can just @ me.

Syokhan2025-12-24 14:34

The [Watatabe soundtrack is out on streaming platforms](https://lnk.to/watatabe_ost), for anyone interested.

It's probably OST of the year for me, just an all-around beautiful collection of mostly piano and strings tunes, with the occasional crystal-clear voice of Yuqi from UQiYO. Think my favorite insert song is [Seafoam](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RebtgxJ7Pc&list=OLAK5uy_nllALcgSLImjZcztLm9Rb9ypaSVNgdYCw&index=42&pp=8AUB), it's gorgeous, especially the way it builds up in the second part.

I had to manually approve this comment.

yeah I also need to figure out a maximum engagement bait MT post for new years.

[](#thoughtful)

VoidEmbracedWitch2025-12-24 16:29

[](#hardthink)

Creating an engagement bait MT post on its own is easy. Just mentioning the series in any way ensures the comments turn into a shit-slinging contest. The challenge is creating one that stays above 50% upvote ratio so it doesn't "die" in new (quotation marks because even if it stays at 0, it'll easily hit 50+ comments).

qwertyqwerty45672025-12-24 16:35

afaik, they also changed their algorithms to take into account comments, so its no longer the end of the world like it used to be.

ZaphodBeebblebrox2025-12-24 18:59

Can't wait to waste over an hour of my time modding another MT post!

flamethrower22025-12-24 15:39

The Holy Grail of Eris I thought the novel series was ongoing but it's completed. There are 5 novels though. Any chance the anime can get through the story and tell us whodunit?

azwhaley912025-12-24 16:18

What new anime are you excited about in the new season?

KendotsX2025-12-24 16:43

Fate/Strange Fake and Ikoku Nikki.

thisisdropd2025-12-24 18:14

**Journal with Witch** and **Tune In to the Midnight Heart**

Heda-of-Aincrad2025-12-24 18:50

I'm most hyped for Oshi no Ko season 3, but I'll be waiting to binge watch it when the season is over.

Medalist season 2 probably is the only show I'll be following weekly.

Quiddity1312025-12-24 19:49

Oshi no Ko season 3. Fate Strange Fake as well if it actually ends up continuously airing instead of just teasing us again with a single episode.

cynical_wolfgang2025-12-24 16:25

any official confirmation for frieren s2 being only 10eps ?? cause if it is i'll just start reading the manga

Sparky-moon2025-12-24 18:08

It’s from a very reliable leaker. They are always true.

cynical_wolfgang2025-12-24 22:19

that’s sad man. i was very hyped and looking forward to seeing [frieren] >!el dorado!< animated as i stopped reading the manga right before it. but 10eps means it’ll stop right before it, and there’s been no news of when cour2 might come out.

mekerpan2025-12-24 16:37

Google Lens seems stumped by today's place....

Since this season has been trailing off, I have time to explore older shows, So I finally managed to watch Yona of the Dawn. A very enjoyable series. I will be looking forward to the (belated) continuation of this next year (or maybe the year after).

KendotsX2025-12-24 16:42

>Google Lens seems stumped by today's place....

Was it giving [Redacted]? I guess it's not big on Mushoku Tensei.

Shoujo Fire Emblem was indeed a great show [](#azusalaugh)

Heda-of-Aincrad2025-12-24 18:39

Quite a few people in my rewatch made that same comparison (along with Avatar: The Last Airbender).

Zeallfnonex2025-12-24 19:06

Yona and Hak are basically just Erika and Seth from Sacred Stones :P

Heda-of-Aincrad2025-12-24 20:34

Heda-of-Aincrad2025-12-24 18:37

One of my favorite series, and the story gets even better from there. So happy we're getting more seasons.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 17:04

I was bouncing around Anilist for a bit, and unless there's some very extreme out of context going on with the tags, I need to thank Sentai for picking up Dusk Beyond the End of the World so there was never a chance I would be able to go into it blind.

mekerpan2025-12-24 17:49

I enjoyed this overall, despite (shall we say) a considerable number of "reservations". But it is not anywhere the top of my PA Works chart.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 17:50

The tags in question would certainly have resulted in a drop from me if my most logical assumptions are correct.

_Ridley2025-12-24 18:20

If it's an incest tag, there's nothing out of context there. It boasts pseudo-incest, straight up incest, and philosophical incest.

GondolaMedia2025-12-24 18:25

The big three.

_Ridley2025-12-24 18:32

Almost gotta salute their commitment to the bit.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 18:52

Another case of my inbox not getting a reply. Yes, those two tags would probably be a killer on their own if accurate, but the more pressing issue (this tag isn't marked as a spoiler on said page, but I'll err on the side of caution) [Dusk] >!there's really only one meaning behind an anime that's marked romance having the "Polyamorous" tag at 80+%, and I don't roll with that kind of stuff.!<

_Ridley2025-12-24 18:56

Ironically, in this case it's actually poly, and not just a nicer word for a basic harem. A shame it couldn't have been less of a dumpster fire about it.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 18:58

What do you mean "ironically"? The whole point of Anilist having multiple tags for that kind of thing is to make these situations clearer. Unless I'm missing your meaning here.

_Ridley2025-12-24 19:18

I guess I don't know how people on anilist use the poly tag, or what you're obliquely saying you avoid, so let's just forget about it.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 19:22

I avoid anime where the main character engages in polyamory. As opposed to the other use of the term "harem", which is essentially a love triangle with more than two people, something I'm fine with. I'm just not clear on what distinction you're trying to draw where it's not what would immediately be obvious if the tag is there.

Charmanders_Cock2025-12-24 22:42

I too have reservations about this tag, but that’s because I always misread it as “polynomial” and am slightly disappointed at the overwhelming lack of algebra. The harem stuff always picks me back up again though so it’s more bittersweet than anything.

qwertyqwerty45672025-12-24 18:54

Is this how PA works will get me back into watching another one of their shows after all these years.

mekerpan2025-12-24 19:53

What was the last you watched?

qwertyqwerty45672025-12-24 20:03

mikadono sisters, but I havent finished it and before that was the wacky racers one, which I didnt particularly like.

[](#hardthink)

mekerpan2025-12-24 20:08

Appare Ranman is one of my 2 outright "fails" out of PA Works whole output. I thought Mikadono Sisters was lovely *Lots* of great (or very good) shows *after* Appare Ranman.

qwertyqwerty45672025-12-24 20:44

Im still looking for my first PA works W. Granted I think ive only seen like 6-7 of their shows, but still. Maybe the W stood for Wincest this entire time.

[](#hardthink)

mekerpan2025-12-24 21:13

I've seen all 40 or so of their shows (except movies not yet readily available) and have only found 2 almost totally unsatisfactory. Most are either "liked a lot" or "loved". So, clearly if you've seen 6-7 you consider Ls, the studio does not make shows that appeal to your tastes, while it is almost perfectly suited to mine.

ZaphodBeebblebrox2025-12-24 18:58

> philosophical incest

[](#curious)

_Ridley2025-12-24 19:15

[Dusk spoilers] >!If an android that looks like a man and has his memories gets together with an android that looks like the man's stepsister, is it pseudo-incest?!<

cyberscythe2025-12-24 20:14

i recommend 'Tis Time for Torture Princess; it's more of a sitcom than a slice-of-life, but it's cute, has a fun cast of demi-humans, and has a great production

maybe also check out season one of Slime300 (I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level) as a pretty chill and fun watch; there is a second season, but it doesn't have the same sort of production quality

AguyinaRPG2025-12-24 18:03

Is there any aggregate site that has a "completed story" tag? Sometimes I want to know if an anime recommendation has a completed story without doing a bunch of research.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 18:48

https://wheredoestheanimeleaveoff.com/ has pages for complete adaptations of LNs and manga. The completed originals page can be a bit less reliable since sequels can happen, but it's there too.

AguyinaRPG2025-12-24 19:07

Man this was in my subconscious, I've been to this page before. Thanks.

I won’t say that the film is the best thing ever. But the subtleties, nuances, it grows on you with time. The last anime/movie to have given me similar feeling was 5 cm per second. The two movies appear to be completely different, yet have strikingly similar themes between them.

awesomenessofme12025-12-24 18:47

I had this thought a few days ago when I first started the show, but I keep forgetting to mention it: I really appreciate Crunchyroll making the effort to get some passable Canadian accents out of their cast in Anne Shirley. I probably wouldn't have even noticed, much less complained, if they hadn't, but it really adds to the overall experience more than I would have thought.

Salty1452025-12-24 18:54

In a way, I can kinda get where a lot of that anti-*K-On!* sentiment came from back when it aired. Not that I *agree* with it, but seeing a lot more of what kinds of series were releasing and coming westward makes it easier to see why someone who liked that part of the medium might not have been too fond of “the show where they just sip tea all day”.

Well, at least those days are somewhat behind us. Though part of me does wonder what happened to the people who were expressing that sentiment back in the day. I feel like it would be interesting to pick the brain of someone who stopped watching anime because it was getting too “childish” or “girly” or whatever word they prefer to use here.

Shimmering-Sky2025-12-24 20:34

Decided to rewatch JJK 0 today because it's *totally* a Christmas movie [](#rinkek) and yeah, just as good as I remembered it being. I'm still peeved they didn't use [Ichizu](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hm1na9R2uYA) as an insert song during [0]>!the melee half of Yuta vs. Geto!< though, that would've been so much cooler than using it as the second ED (which itself is just a black screen with the text scrolling over it).

Some parts of it also hit differently, knowing what's to come in season 3 and also a little bit of the sequel manga ([JJK 0 & Modulo]>!YutaMaki being canon made me *really* squee over their interactions this go through [](#akyuusqueel)!<). So yeah this doubles as a "I am *very* excited for season 3" comment. [](#hypeoverload)[](#hypeoverload)[](#hypeoverload)

Can we get the sequel to “Watch the damn anime” titled “*Don’t* watch the damn anime”. Tired of seeing so many people everywhere going on about how X series hasn’t hooked them or that they’re 738 episodes into *One Piece* and want to know when it gets good.

Like ok fine, I know I’m just as guilty of watching something that I’m not enjoying (*Dusk Beyond the End of the World*, I’m looking at you) but I at least have the self-awareness to not ask out into the ether about “when it gets good” or “should I continue”. I know I shouldn’t continue, but I do it anyway.

mekerpan2025-12-24 23:32

Dusk is an unusual case for me -- neither a failure nor a success. Sort of a "disappointment" -- but not exactly -- because I actually enjoyed it despite the fact that it was a huge mess in terms of plot. Never ever felt the urge to drop it -- or any chagrin about continuing to be entertained by it.

The unforgivable sin for an anime (or just about anything) is when it is devoid of anything of interest or appeal.

It's so weird to see Imagica studio in ending credits of half of shows I watch knowing they are on their way to become the main villains of anime industry with their enshittification of anime through making cheap "light anime" crap like Broken Saintess or Forget That Night Your Majesty.

_Ridley2025-12-24 23:47

I don't think limited animation shorts constitute enshittification. They're a new product. They're not making an existing offering worse.

Charmanders_Cock2025-12-25 03:24

Calling out small studios trying new things seems like entirely the opposite of enshittification to me. It’s companies like Sony that should be taking that heat, not the small guys.

Rewatching Cells at Work. Such a goofy infotainment show. I love how each cell has different personalities and chemistry in dealing with all sorts of weird viruses and junk. The comedic tone makes it a blast to watch...unlike Code Black, which made me depressed and I think I'll avoid this time.

Emi_Ibarazakiii2025-12-25 08:50

Yona would be in mine too if I actually scored manga while reading.
I guess it can chill at the top of next Year's instead.

Miya arc of Amagami SS done

[Amagami]>!The preview is for episode 1?! It never ends!<

Also the true meaning of Amagami is revealed!

[](#shock)

Fun ep to wrap things up, and a lot more tame than I thought it be honestly.

All of the first season of Amagami SS done. Just in time for Christmas Eve!

[my genuine reaction](https://i.imgur.com/9Ev1c8W.jpeg)

As someone who tends to prefer slow burns, I nevertheless enjoyed Amagami's approach of short standalone arcs for each girl. The show executes it well to resolve one of my pet peeves with harems, which is having all the haremettes orbit around the MC with little to no meaningful relationships of their own independent of the MC or one of the other haremettes at best. Often the haremettes are still hung up on the MC and do not have lives of their own even after the MC has chosen someone else. Amagami's approach of focusing the romance on the heroine of the arc and having the other girls live their own lives and simply be acquaintances or background characters to the MC solves this problem neatly, and allows extra dimensions of the characters to shine through. In fact, I liked a few of the girls more as supporting characters than as heroines. It helps that the supporting characters are generally great throughout, like ~~secret best girl~~ Hibiki, the teacher, and the Tea Club girls.

The shorter arcs also cut out other typical issues that are endemic to harems dragging things out. The romantic development happens fast and doesn't pull any punches [Amagami]>!except for Rihoko I guess [RIP](#toradorasalute)!< Nothing gets too complicated. I said after Haruka's arc that it's a fun romp that delivers uncomplicated hormonal fantasies and I can reaffirm that after watching the rest. All the arcs are enjoyable in their own way, and they all deliver on different parts of a distilled harem romcom experience. And of course the show as a whole delivers on a Christmas experience.

Girl rankings:

Tsukasa > Kaoru > Rihoko > Ai > Sae > Haruka

Arc rankings:

Tsukasa > Kaoru > Ai > Sae > Rihoko > Haruka

ED rankings:

Ai > Tsukasa > Rihoko = Sae > the rest

Risa and Miya were excluded as they did not have the same focus.

Amagami SS+ will have to wait until after Christmas. I never did come across [](#saesmile)

> Tea Club girls.

Yesss the Tea Club girls are great. Especially Manaka Hiba, wasn't expecting to find a gem like her in the show.

Hibiki is amazing, on one hand it's sad that she wasn't an option, but on the other...she's probably too good for Junichi anyways, so it's all good

theangryeditor2025-12-25 03:06

Every line from Manaka was perfect

[](#justright)

> Hibiki is amazing

That she is. And she is too good for Junichi so everything worked out just fine

if you ever want more amagami, know that there is a game with literally hundreds of hours of content with these girls. there's a mostly complete english fan translation out there somewhere, and i've seen a few playthroughs in english on youtube as well if that's preferable

i think that the girls come across as even more charming in the game than in the anime, to the point where it becomes genuinely difficult to focus on just one of them... i'm still not tired of that event where rihoko gets stuck in the fence, even though it happens every single playthrough lmao

theangryeditor2025-12-25 19:17

On the backlog it goes

I think Haruka's still higher in my personal rankings but otherwise similar.

theangryeditor2025-12-25 19:19

Haruka was a bit hard to rank because I really liked her appearances in the other arcs but not as much in her own arc.

Kind of a rude spot to end Wandance with no second cour announcement.

[](#seasonalpout)

mekerpan2025-12-25 04:55

Sigh.....

Too true.

Sparky-moon2025-12-25 06:20

At least there’s a live action announcement

mr_beanoz2025-12-25 07:27

That's basically me with the potion anime last week

Emi_Ibarazakiii2025-12-25 08:40

Potion may have ended, but Seasonal_Po(u)tion could be forever!

(If people add it to the HOF)

zairaner2025-12-25 11:00

So just like for sanda.

Like it's really ironic, the two shows of mine that still get another episodes (watatabe and mangaka) feel like they had their perfect finales already.

_Ridley2025-12-25 17:57

Sanda at least feels like it has a chance of getting more episodes. Wandance feels very one and done, go read the manga if you want the rest of the story.

zairaner2025-12-25 22:12

Yeah I can imagine.

Wonder what the answer for watatabe will be, that's probably in between.

gudaifeiji2025-12-25 03:33

Trying to find the name of an anime.

The male lead is a demon lord/demon king. He looks pretty much human and wears black (or really dark blue) full plate armor (no helmet though). He also has dark hair (fairly long, I think).

For some reason, he was put to sleep, thrown through a time portal, locked in time stasis, went into hibernation, or otherwise disabled. I am not sure if it was by the hero or some other means. When he finally awakes and/or returns, he finds himself in a world that looks superficially like the modern world.

In the modern world, it seems that the demon lord is no longer overwhelmingly powerful. I am not sure whether this is because he got weaker, because the world advanced to the point where he was no longer special, or it developed some kind of anti-magic field to suppress magic to limit the amount of destruction that an individual can cause.

One of his former subordinates is a big shot in this world--I am not sure if he is a high official in a government or the leader of a large corporation. This person wears a red suit, has slightly darker skin, white hair, and wears glasses. He seems to be the main antagonist of the TV series.

SSjjlex2025-12-25 03:58

I didn't watch it all, but Maou/Demon Lord 2099 maybe? Last one paragraph in particular seems very much like it. Though I'm pretty sure its a bit more than just modern world technologically.

gudaifeiji2025-12-25 04:04

Thanks. That's it.

I have just watched Spy x Family episode 12 and it is just insane.

TheGoatImpregnator2025-12-25 11:07

What happened to having the characters do funny little dances in the intro/outro. It felt so much more common that the characters boogie down to the music, but now I can just think of the love is war intro.

My goat highschool dxd S1 had perhaps the greatest outro of all time(maybe ghost stories was better), lucky star was pretty infamous.

Now I remembered beastars as well from the modern anime and I’m pretty sure that one cheat skill thing with the white haired fox girl had it so I think I might be wrong idk. I want to try ketamine.

Wanderingjoke2025-12-25 11:50

A Wild Last Boss had an ED with a dancing character this season.
