I wonder if they are committed to wait another 15 years to drop season 3
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 17:13
I hope not. It probably wouldn't be another 15 anyway unless Trigger wanted to do that as a joke because the main reason why season 2 took so long was because of Gainax holding the copyright and Trigger taking over a decade to get the rights back.
But there's no rights issues anymore.
N7CombatWombat2025-12-24 17:15
Considering they just closed down and were dissolved, I kind of doubt it.
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 17:46
The rights for PSG have been at Studio Trigger for over 3 years and are no longer held by Gainax.
N7CombatWombat2025-12-24 17:47
I know that, the person I'm responding to sounded like they were referring to Gainax, I figured they might not know what happened since it was pretty recent.
enesup2025-12-24 19:33
It'd be pretty funny (Well, not really but the idea of it is) but theres no way they'd fight so hard for a show for so long just to do another season and be done with it.
I'm sure S3 won't be anytime soon though. Likely 4 or 5 years.
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 19:54
My guess is S3 will be in 6 years because every Imaishi directed show has released every 3 years since Gurren Lagann, and I expect Imaishi to do a more serious show after PSG S2.
MonochromeLG2025-12-25 02:36
Funny thing, In a Type Moon's anime about a comedy collab of their most popular series; Carnival phantasm, they made this joke. The original anime aired on 2011 and in it, Neco-Arc Chaos (Yes, that Neco-Arc) mentioned that is a festival that only occurs once every 10 years. Then almost 10 years later they aired Fate/Grand Carnival (although, this time with only four episodes and only one series in it) which ended in 2021. They made us wait 10 years for a joke.
Brave-Camp-9332025-12-24 16:56
How do they profit from this series? Merch?
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 17:11
This serious sells a lot of merchandise, yeah.
Curtdahurt832025-12-24 17:47
I was there on /a/ that day. [https://imgur.com/a/naFdPZJ](https://imgur.com/a/naFdPZJ)

I remember this. Iconic moment. Old /a/ before the era of ubiquitous, persistent, and omnipresent generals was so good.
I still need to watch season 2.
enesup2025-12-25 08:40
I was there, Gandalf....

The Gainax ending.
enesup2025-12-24 19:12
Season 3 won't be anytime soon (Where is Dungeon Meshi Season 2, trigger?), but at least it won't be 15 years.
Crazy that it's been so long.
ChampionshipDirect462025-12-24 23:30
Didn't dungeon meshi just come out like a year ago tops?
enesup2025-12-24 23:55
The first week of January is going to be 2 years since S1 premiered.
There'd also be trailers by now if it was airing Spring or Summer, so it could spill into 2027.
Pretend-Average13802025-12-24 19:20
Was season 2 good? I have very fond memories of season 1 but heard mixed opinions about season 2....
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 19:37
Season 2 is considered pretty solid outside of the dub being worse.
WiqidBritt2025-12-24 20:29
The dub being 'worse' is because they took fewer liberties with the translations. Otherwise it's fine.
koushirohan2025-12-24 22:55
This. Much more faithful script.
toilodi2025-12-24 19:52
As someone that didn't watch the original and only the second season, the first episode makes a lot more sense now
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-24 20:17
Why would you watch the second season without watching the first?
toilodi2025-12-24 20:42
Because I didn't watch anime 15 years ago and when I heard about the second season, people said it was more of an episodic type of series so it was okay to start with the new one. And honestly it really was fine, only the first episode felt confusing
Born_Usual9982025-12-24 22:59
surprisingly the least sexist anime series I've ever seen
Redderrit2025-12-24 23:18
And after all that time, we got season 2
Dracasethaen2025-12-24 23:41
RIP Gainax, we knew you well (for anyone not in the know, Gainax shuttered earlier this month after 42 years) -- I think Studio Trigger has the rights now though
NiceVibeShirt2025-12-25 04:25
This is some Adult Swim shit.
PikminPlayer52025-12-25 05:52
This anime's art style bothered me at times
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-25 13:20
I love the art style. It's going for the same look as the Cartoon Network shows from the late-90's/early 2000s like Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and Fosters Home, and its completely intentional because the show is a homage to that era.
MoistResolution64172025-12-25 06:35
That...was very creative and interesting...
MochiDomain2025-12-25 09:25
I never was able to find this show good.
Just felt like shock level humor targeted at young teens.
Most of the time it made me just feel uncomfortable.
Severe-Operation-3472025-12-26 04:27
Season 2 pretty heavily dials down on the shock humor. Still raunchy, but no incest or pedo jokes, and no booger or vomit episodes either.
Shadowmist9092025-12-25 11:47
This is definitely the most trolliest ending anime's given us.
itz-versace2025-12-27 00:57
havent watched this show yet but panty just got freaking babyfaced therefore this is a jojo reference and i must watch it.
