Demon Slayer stays consistently solid
Don't get me wrong, Demon Slayer is also heavily boosted by its animations and fights. But it does what its meant to do well, and if you asked me to point out any flaws or plot holes in the writing, I couldn't tell you. It's just a really solid Shounen, but at the same time it's nothing more than that.
At the end of the day it's a matter of taste. I recommend trying both out eventually, as you could greatly appreciate either or. Who knows 🤷♂️
It has well written characters that have their own way of thinking about Jujutsu world and its meaning. The main protagonist has it struggle with his purpose in life and being a sorcerer. It has an OP sensei that has eyes that see everything, but he always misses whats right infront of him. I could go on, but yeah.
But the great part about consuming fiction is that everybody can/will have their own perspective on it :)
Its a great story about battle of ideals, about finding yourself and purpose in life. Yuji is a great example of this, even Sukuna. Yuji who in the start was trying to find a way to have proper death, to then trying to fit in as "cog" in the system, to realizing every moment in life is precious and worth defending no matter how boring it is.
I dont see how a story like that can be called horrible in anyway...
What was thrown out of the window? It got wrapped up nicely.
Demon Slayer is not great writing but it definitely stays fairly consistent. It doesn’t have the same epic factor or foresight in storytelling that other masterpieces have. But it more than makes for it in terms of animation. It’s visually brilliant.
JJK is fun, a bit ridiculous, and things start to really hit their stride as you end the first season because things get decidedly less happy from there. For all the peppy veneer you can find in JJK, there's always an undercurrent of tragedy.
Art direction for both is good, and at specific times it is phenomenal. Don't go into either with expectations, just watch and enjoy. Bonus points for actual popcorn consumption
One thing JJK beats demon slayer on are the villains. Every villain in demon slayer is so formulaic whereby they all feature the same generic tragic backstory that is supposed to make you feel a bit of sympathy before they lost their humanity where JJK has straight up evil curses that are unapologetic about it.
Jjk shits on demon slayer and its not even close. Take jt as someone who also enjoys demon slayer
I enjoy both but for different reasons.
Demon Slayer was more emotionally gripping and the animation is more impressive. The soundtrack in general is also better (Specialz and the first JJK ending are however brilliant). Tanjiro, while being a simple main character, is very likeable and one of the better shounen battle protagonists. itadori is decent.
So what does JJK do better? It's more stylish and I find it less predictable than Demon Slayer. While season one isn't as strong as the second, I enjoyed the eerie atmosphere early on which reminded me very much of Bleach.
I'll decide once JJK has covered more ground in the anime.
I havent yet watched the ending of Demon Slayer. But from what I watched its a really shallow anime. Not much depth there, not much emotion. Power system is almost nonexistant. There is really no sauce to it. Its carried good animation, maybe the best. But its being hard carried by that.
On the other hand JJK has an interesting power system. It has few fun aspects to it and there are levels to it. The stronger characters know how to bend the power system to their will in a way.
Characters are written nicely, they all have their way of thinking about life and about what it means to be a sorcer. They also look good, got some drip. They all have flaws and those flaws cost them things. It has a good mix of horror, serious, funny and slice of life moments. When it comes to fights, I would say hand to hand combat is on pair with Naruto. While the fights with "powers" are animated amazing.
To me JJK sticks way more, Demon Slayer was a fun anime I watched once and probably never again. But I keep coming back and thinking about JJK a lot more.
JJK Season 2 had a very expository writing style, with characters being introduced almost like data sheets.
These are future events from the manga, and they took away all my will to keep following the story.

JJK had better, cool moments and highlights and some really good arcs but if you strip of the flashy facade it's story becomes quite disjointed and weird especially at the end.
*Demon Slayer*, on the other hand, is far more consistent. Its composition and digital effects work are both pretty good, and the score ends up solidifying this “pseudo-cinematic” feeling to it. It’s hard carried by its production, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing either. In the other hand, the story of DS is… serviceable at best. The characters are flat and it does (similar to JJK) seem to adhere to this idea that if something isn’t constantly happening then your audience will lose interest. JJK opts to just cut these parts out to its own detriment, but DS goes a different route and jamming all of its downtime with pretty crappy jokes and loud shouting to keep the audience from turning it off I guess. It does struggle with building meaningful payoffs because of this, as it really want you to grow attached to its meatbags that it’s just gonna kill off anyway. It all amounts to this lack of self-awareness where it both wants a streamlined, “balls to the wall” action series while maintaining the character moments of older gen Shounen despite not having the down time you need to make those moments truly land.
Overall, DS has the better story, score, and consistency, and JJK has the better animation and characters. I’ll take the latter over the former, but still prefer other, more complete, offerings if given the opportunity.
