Anime with abusive but "good" parents?
Think Enji Todoroki
I want to see a series where a character has abusive parents, but the parents do genuinely care for their child. More like a militaristic family that just doesn't know better, I guess. Just straight abusive parents would be a nice change of pace, but I would like some level of redemption
As for the reason, I was abused by my parents but mostly my father, and while I know he didnt want me and doesn't particularly care for me, I will always be his son in his eyes. His abuse of me stems from how hard he was abused by his parents, which was arguably worse than what he put me through, but it was really all he knew in the first place. I want to see something similar in an anime
I really want to see a redemption of them as well since I won't ever have that. I had the thought while seeing a chatacter have a good family growing up that was training him well and taking care of him. It made me think of seeing a family in anime where they were extremely strict and militaristic, but what the character doesn't see is that the parents genuinely love them and are doing what they did or what the parents think is best for their future.
Tl;dr, I want to see some daddy or parental issues in anime because he just like me fr. Ive already watched Clannad

Jecht is portrayed as a bad father, and in many ways, he is. But he just wants his son to "toughen up" and be ready for the world.
From what you're telling, the ending of the game will be very cathartic for you.
Just saying, BTW, but no good parent is ever abusive, and I'll leave it at that.
I think Soul Eater has some interesting shitty parents.
Oh, Dr Tenma in the 2003 Astro Boy is also a good example.
It's hard not to cry just thinking about it.
Too Perfect Saint Tossed Aside by my Fiance and Sold to Another Kingdom
Fumetsu no Anata E has one in season 3. Pretty long journey to get there though.
* Goku is a good person who wants to protect the planet. However, he's also a battle-hardened who wants to spend all his time training for any threat that comes to Earth; neglecting both his family and his responsibilities as a provider. And what's worse, when his son, Gohan grows up, Goku intends to put him through an even worse training than he had, so Gohan can surpass him.
* Chi-chi is an innocent maiden who truly loves her husband, but seeing how much of a deadbeat Goku is, she became a strict, angry mother who snaps as her son for neglecting his earthly responsibilities. While shrewed. she's only thinking out for his well-being and just wants him to have a stable life and not turn out like Goku.
Main character's mom to be specific
Also Assassination Classroom.
Neon Genesis Evagelion is all about daddy and mommy issues but they aren't redeemable.
Manwaru Penguindrum deals with orphaned and abandoned kids and wether or not they should be responsible for the sins of there parents. Don't think redemption is an element.
