Please recommend me some generic isekai anime

Im tryna watch the basic/generic isekai anime where the mc is op and etc. So that when I watch something that is actually good I end up appreciating it more. Thank you.

I take offense to calling this "generic" isekai. This was peak of the genre, and I will not hear any arguments stating otherwise.

Generic would be Wise Man's Grandchild or The Master of Ragnarok.

I actually like Wise man's grandchild. I don't think it's great or anything, but it pretty casually chooses when to sidestep the standard tropes or not in a way that a lot of others in the genre struggle with. For someone who watches a lot of generic isekai, I think it's kind of a 'refreshing time-killer' that stands apart from the chaff (a term I use affectionately) without looking like it's *trying* to be different.

Like, I like my junk food shows, but I think this one tastes different from just the salt and grease, y'know? Still very casual, but set apart. Like, I imagine it'd be disappointing to watch that early on in your generic-isekai-trash adventure and then watch the tropes it so deftly avoided play out exactly the same 50 times in 50 different settings, because you'd slowly creep into realizing that the main body of this subgenre is even narrower and more formulaic than that.

(That said, I don't keep an MAL or anything, nor do I bother to remember specific generic isekai or which is which in most cases, until I look at it specifically. This is intentional and I do it to give myself mindless rewatch fodder when I've forgotten enough and am bored, so I can stumble upon things again. But it means I can't actually help OP lol)

...I've actually never heard of Master of Ragnarok.

Oh, yeah, I actually really loved the show as an isekai enthusiast (name one and I've probably watched it), I just thought other than the one thing of using knowledge of modern science to enhance magic, it still hit all the tropes that make isekai feel so formulaic as you said.

That said, I still want a second season of it.

I mean to be fair I mostly read my Isekai, and the cream of the crop definitely isn't what is getting greenlit for anime.. Particularly some newer sci-fi isekai have been a super great time, like 'reborn as a space mercenary'.

The only thing i really dislike isekai for is kind of making other general fantasy anime less adapted. Like 'let this grieving soul retire' isn't an isekai, but a normal fantasy anime, but i feel like it'd get lumped together even though it is leaps and bounds more interesting than an average isekai.

That’s not to say that some of these aren’t enjoyable. They aren’t in the actively awful category, after all. But if you want some balance to the good stuff, this is a start.
