The last 4 episodes of Golden Kamuy S3 hit such an incredible high.
Having read the manga, which is a masterpiece, I watched the anime again now having read the manga. S3 was a big improvement from Geno Studios, and man, did this season deliver. How the season was structured, the final 4 episodes were beyond amazing.
* Episode 9 -> It was Wilk, Sofia & Kiroranke's backstory. Though for the big twist at the end, Hasegawa being Tsurumi is a jaw-dropping twist with big implications.
* Episode 10 -> Sugimoto reuniting with Shiraishi which was such a huge deal because we could see now Sugimoto is so close to catching up to Asirpa.
* Episode 11 -> The big emotional reunion of Asirpa & Sugimoto. The dedication from Sugimoto to ensure Ogata doesn't die for Asirpa's sake. Even though the ending to ED is the weakest of the 4, the fight between Kiroranke & Koito is still a great ending to the episode.
* Episode 12 -> How it wraps up Kiroranke's character before his death since the trip for him was a success. Not only is Ogata alive, but he was able to escape and get away from Sugimoto & the 7th Division guy.
I was so tempted to binge this in one setting like a movie. I love this series.

too bad its not that popular outside japan
It was until reading the manga that I came to appreciate Golden Kamuy. It's a great story with a great cast of characters. Which we can see in the anime.
But the effort that Noda put into research, art on a weekly schedule, and story, as mentioned, makes it a true masterpiece in the manga medium. The direction the anime has taken since S3 really holds up well.
So I started reading it and my god I'm at chapter 80 and it's soooo good. I think main reason is because they butchered season 1 with cutting important arc and the fact that Japanese committe didn't allow that series to be broadcasted in seinnen hours so it got shounen censorship on it where some shounen are aired in hours thatet them show 1/2 seinnen stuff per few episode that I find infuriating
I don't always watch additional seasons either, but sometimes stuff just happens.
If you read manga in general there is also that option if starting at episode 1 kills your motivation
When trying to figure out where I left off on season 4, I vaguely recalled the episodes that I watched in 2022 as I skim them. It's somewhat similar (though not exactly because of the time span) to when I watch an episode (in the present) and afterwards I'm like "what happened" but if I go back and skim it, I'm like "yeah that's what happened, I get all that". That understanding is probably linked to brain fog but I'm not exactly sure if that's new or not (new being after July 2022). That's a separate problem. I'm mentioning it because it's how I'm understanding it as skim it and directly impacts my capacity to watch. That's one reason why I'm trying to watch less anime as I'm usually good for one or two episodes; but sometimes episode 2 or 3 is very pause/play heavy; especially depending on the subtitle structure.
It was a contained arc with a clear goal and payoff and some excellent episodes mixed into it.
