i woulda thunk that seeing lights like that, all of a sudden for people, who are not used to seeing lights like that, would make them flabbergasted (tho i dont remember if at that point they hadnt used to seeing normal incandescent lights)

if i remember correctly at that point they have already seen artificial light/light bulb. i remember a scene where Senku made a light on top of his hut which could be seen from the village. this scene was Senku celebrating christmas and strung up multiple lights

Yeah, I think they'd gotten light to shine, but the filament was too weak, so it never lasted. Plus Senku had already done a number of flabbergastable things, like curing Ruri's pneumonia, and glasses.

It seems odd to translate "イルミネーション" as "decorative lights" when we have the term "illumination" that means the same thing in English. Do they just not use the term in the US or something?

Man, this stuff is why I fell in love with Dr Stone. Senku may be all efficiency and science on the outside, but he genuinely wants to show people why he loves this stuff so much.
He really goes above and beyond for others, it is so damn optimistic about humanity. Admidst all the dark shit that keeps happening in the world, this unabashed optimism is just so refreshing.
