Wow, thats great news! I really enjoyed season one, but it felt like it flew a bit under the radar. Hope more people will check it out.
Avaricee2025-12-25 17:24
The whole series flew under the radar. It's one of my favorites and feels like it doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves. I know it's because a lot of people drop it after the first couple of chapters but it gets so good.
kingEdward222025-12-25 17:39
I watched S1 and excited for S2
This is probably the best shounen of the last decade , its so good with characters and power system that as good as HxH
Dasnap2025-12-25 18:49
I've read the whole thing, and it's interesting to see how the story's treatment of Fuuko changes from beginning to end. What starts as fairly... creepy, almost evolves into a feminist piece.
AbedGubiNadir2025-12-25 17:30
Being on Hulu only doesn't help its case.
Bob_The_Skull2025-12-25 17:47
Yeah, unfortunately an anime (usually) has to be on Crunchyroll, or at least a Weekly Release on Netflix to get viewership and be popular.
Only exception is stuff like Bleach TYBW which had a preexisting fandom and hype.
Avaricee2025-12-25 19:14
Even Netflix Weekly Release isn't enough sometimes. Especially when they do weird things like Fragant Flower and they delay the US release by a few weeks.
Bob_The_Skull2025-12-25 19:17
For sure, it needs to be a weekly release and have a "sufficient" amount of buzz behind it before episode 1.
Regardless, Hulu & Hi-Dive is almost always the kiss of death.
Nitsy12025-12-25 19:32
I think Hulu/Disney+ releases tend to fare a lot worse popularity-wise than Hidive. They've certainly come a far way, but I'll never forgive how dirty they did Summertime Rendering
AbedGubiNadir2025-12-25 19:34
What's wrong with Summertime rendering? I was gonna check it out. Spoiler free please.
Nitsy12025-12-25 19:51
The show itself? Nothing, it's pretty good and very much underwatched.
It's just that Disney got the global distribution rights and proceeded to sit on them for a fair amount (most?) of its run for most of the world. Initially they only streamed it on Asia, then it slowly started trickling out to the rest of the world. Needless to say, without any promotion and months after it started airing, it completely flew under the radar for most people
AbedGubiNadir2025-12-25 19:56
Ohhhh I see. Thank you.
Avaricee2025-12-25 19:57
As the other guy said, it just didn't get a global release until months after the series had already ended. And it all got released at once to zero fanfare because its prime time had passed, and honestly they're not going to heavily promote a random new anime like that. So you basically had to pirate it if you wanted to follow any little hype it did have and any show you are forced to pirate is just not going to get the credit it deserves.
I highly do recommend the show. Just because Disney sabotaged its chance to get more hype doesn't mean it's bad. It's very good in fact.
giitaru-kun2025-12-25 19:41
Agreed with this statement. On HIDIVE, at least they have press release statements that they'll get the anime. We know what we're subscribing to for the upcoming season. This is in despite that the platform has many quirks and lacks the anime content compared to Crunchyroll.
On Hulu/Disney+, for example for Heavenly Delusion (Tengoku Daimakyou), I first learned that the anime release was delayed through a random tweet on Twitter, and that it would be named Tengoku Daimakyou instead. Why wasn't there a post from Hulu/Disney+ officially? Or from the anime?
In the US, what's worse is when to use Hulu over Disney+, anime sometimes shows up on Disney+, but to be randomly delayed the week after. No post on X, no communications whatsoever, then I had to switchover to Hulu just for that week.
Nitsy12025-12-25 19:54
They get the global licenses, but then act like they are ashamed of them and just bury them somewhere in their streaming app. Netflix at least has their "Netflix Anime" social media accounts, so you can find stuff there
CrimsonGear802025-12-25 23:06
well, some hidive anime became popular through sheer force of will and hype. Oshi no ko, call of the night, and dangers in my heart, for example.
Florac2025-12-25 17:48
Yeah it was a massive fail in distribution
caiusto2025-12-25 18:25
It also took like 2 to 3 months for it to start streaming in all Latin America.
Ok-Friend-66532025-12-25 17:41
It is the same with Sanda this season.
Dirty_Dragons2025-12-25 18:18
It's weird how much Sanda felt like Undead Unluck. I couldn't find any connection in studio or author, which was surprising.
Ok-Friend-66532025-12-25 18:22
Sanda have the same author as Beastar and Science Saru animating Sanda, did an amazing job with Dandadan and also Sanda.
With keeping the uniqe art style and story. Without shipping and leaving out to mutch.
Silent-Witness18882025-12-25 18:00
The dumb excuse for fanservice was a huge turn-off.
Environmental_Bath532025-12-25 18:34
Fanservice is completely gone later in the series
DrStein10102025-12-25 18:48
I'm shocked they didn't tone is down at all. It's so absent from the rest of the series that it feels weird to include it early, even if it is a little important for Andy's character.
Avaricee2025-12-25 19:17
There's some issues with being completely true to the manga, which some anime will do even if it's clear that's not where the manga decided to go. Mieruko-Chan had the exact same issue because it also started off as a slightly ecchi manga before deciding that no, being just a cute horror manga was enough. The anime then adapted the early chapters extremely faithfully despite the fact that they were no longer fitting in with the rest of the vibes of the show.
Silent-Witness18882025-12-25 18:52
How late?
Avaricee2025-12-25 19:15
It's toned down a lot before you leave the first arc.
Environmental_Bath532025-12-25 19:27
Like ep 5 I think
Raghav_Singhania2025-12-25 19:14
and tbf that fanservice was honestly a plot point
octopathfinder2025-12-25 17:20
IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE
Really hope this season will be 2 cours with better pacing so it can end on [spoiler] >!ragnarok!<.
KendotsX2025-12-26 04:07
Yeah, I think it'd be great if they could end on that. Splitting them into two seasons wouldn't be as strong.
Xeflogna2025-12-25 17:20
Oh man what happens next is gonna be fucking amazing, can't wait for it
detarameReddit2025-12-25 17:21
For real? Awesome stuff.
I've heard good things about the manga, which apparently starts slow but becomes great. If that's the case, I'm glad that the show managed to get a second season. Dedicated fans are probably much happier than I am right now.
Merry Christmas, Undead Unluck fans!
dalelito2025-12-25 18:12
It picks up super hard after the first volume which had a terrible impression
DrStein10102025-12-25 18:50
Spoil is good, and from there is just keeps on the accelerator for 200 chapters.
Panory2025-12-26 22:56
Gina's actual ability is UnBad, because the second she shows up the series stops being terrible and just starts smashing home run after home run.
brasstax1082025-12-25 18:58
The world building and story is intertwined and the power system is too. It has so many good twists and turns that made me go "holy shit". It's hard to discuss without spoiling but i recommend it to everyone. It's one of those stories where author probably thought of everything from start to finish so it's very tight and coherent. You get this eerie sense from the first episode already. It also has a Kimi ni Todoke reference which is great.
SwampyBogbeard2025-12-25 22:40
> It's one of those stories where author probably thought of everything from start to finish so it's very tight and coherent.
I wouldn't say *everything*, but even the things that don't look like they were planned from the start ended up having pretty good explanations in the end (mostly volume 1 stuff).
At least most of it.
Abshalom2025-12-27 06:23
Yeah you can tell which parts at the beginning were more pilot than plot lol
frumply2025-12-25 19:14
I’m trying to think of a time when the story was ever slow. I guess towards the end it took a bit too long to flesh out some characters but otherwise throughout the whole series it was banging through major plot points at breakneck speed, which was its major appeal.
Neve watched season 1 and I imagine it’ll be overshadowed by yet another powerhouse series somehow but hopefully it finds its audience. The best part is the redemption arcs of so many characters on the second half of the series and hopefully that will be covered in detail.
arrowfan6242025-12-25 21:13
It’s excellent. Season 2 is going to get jnto what I think is the series’ best arcs .
Sombatezib2025-12-25 22:34
UU starting slow? Its been a high-speed rollercoaster at all times and the brakes were non-functional.
MusubiKazesaru2025-12-25 23:12
It actually starts off especially fast paced. The start is a highlight to me.
NintendoMasterNo12025-12-26 00:30
Genuinely, the first 5% are a little rough while the series finds its bearings and the last 5% felt slightly disappointing and a little rushed to me but everything in between is a 10/10.
bobvella2025-12-26 01:40
i've been saying the series seriously evolves as it goes, following it became the highlight of my weeks
filthy_casual_422025-12-25 17:21
Sick. Wicked sick
Magnafeana2025-12-25 19:38
Coming fresh off the rewatch as a first-timer (and first time manga reader), I can just see Andy with that crazy grin of his and hear his voice. God. What a crazy fucker.
Big shout to u/italeteller, thank you for the rewatch and introducing some of us to this series over the past almost month, mate. Been a blast with this insane muscle show, cannot wait for more! 🫶🏾
italeteller2025-12-25 21:49
Oh if you liked all this muscle you're gonna love season 2
All I wanted with the rewatch was to get more people aboard, so I'm glad you liked it!
DrStein10102025-12-26 02:59
Tozuka-sensei LOVES muscles. The characters only get more jacked over time.
Salty1452025-12-25 17:25
YO! WHAT?!
Was not expecting this after S1 didn’t seem to get that much traction. Really excited to see it, S1 was one of my favorite new Shounen of the recent gen.
FarCritical2025-12-25 17:27
I was unprepared for this news
radilee212025-12-25 17:27
Peak is on the way! The winter special episode that released today was great so I have high hopes for how they're gonna do the upcoming arcs (I need the Spring arc animated right now 😭)
MusubiKazesaru2025-12-25 17:27
Fantastic news. I wasn't sure it would happen, but UU deserves the love.
ConArtist982025-12-25 17:28
I read "Undead" and thought it would be Undead Girl Murder Farce 💔
KingSammyJ12025-12-25 17:30
Finally, I thought you would never come
Gold-Doctor-39692025-12-25 17:34
Hoping this won't be the last. Need a full adaptation pls
AnIcedMilk2025-12-25 17:34
Is it still going to be stuck in Hulu jail?
I want to watch it but am not getting Hulu for a single show
Etiennera2025-12-25 17:45
Stick it to the man and sail the high seas. It's a form of protest against the modern distribution machine.
Gojokatsusa72025-12-25 17:51
Yo ho it's a pirate's life for me. Some quality content as well heheh
paladinvc2025-12-25 19:53
You must follow the jack sparrow path
Unlucky-Prize2025-12-25 17:34
Solid series, wasn’t so popular in Japan, really surprised it got a s2, that’s great!
Lodju2025-12-25 17:37
Hell yeess! I was asking for this in the special discussion thread in the morning today.
Glad my wishes were asnwered since it usually goes the other way around when i really want a sequel to a series.
ARES_GOD2025-12-25 17:39
This is great more people need to watch Undead Unluck S1 was really fun and we just had the winter special.
Hopefully more people check it out now that S2 is coming.
Curious_North_84792025-12-25 17:43
Please don't end up with Park's studio, even with the special looking that good. They're too inconsistent and EVEN if it managed to looks as good as JJK S1 or GoH (this is highkey impossible). Yase's flare to the series is unmatched alone.
tripleaamin2025-12-25 18:51
I would love for park to be involved but David Prod needs to be involved. They are still on the production committee so I hope can build off what Park’s team did well with the Winter Special.
With that being it would good news not to learn more until Jojo Pt7 finishes because that’s where David Prod’s main focus is since I heard fire Force should be adapting the rest of the manga in this winter. (Correct me if I heard wrong. )
gvon892025-12-25 21:46
Yea the fire force finale is coming up so that frees up some production space. Apparently this is also a passion project for the team so im not expecting anything until 2027 or even 2028 release wise. I do expect a full adaptation some day though.
Sceptilesolar2025-12-25 17:43
Awesome. The manga gets exponentially better with its arcs so the content for an S2 should be very good.
MasterQuest2025-12-25 17:45
Awesome!
DirectionExact312025-12-25 17:48
That’s amazing! I honestly didn’t think that’d happen, but I’m all for a Christmas miracle!

Yes!!!

mrsirgrape2025-12-25 17:55
Thanks Santa, it's exactly what I wanted.
SciFiXhi2025-12-25 17:56
I was afraid we wouldn't get this announcement today, but I'm glad to see I'm wrong!
viciadoemsono2025-12-25 17:57
That's great news! This anime is so underrated.
the_card_guy2025-12-25 18:01
First, I still need to watch the first season... and really, finish the manga.
Second: Hell Yes! I know the first season didn't do so well, but I'm glad it's still getting a chance. Plus we did get that short recently.
Routine_Hat_4832025-12-25 18:03
Hopefully season 2 doesn't have 10 minutes worth of flashbacks every episode.
MageAndWizard2025-12-25 18:04
Please please please hope a simulcast in Netflix, Crunchyroll, or anywhere else. Amazing anime that gets even better the longer it goes, but has been locked behind Disney+/Hulu :(
BaytaCosmico2025-12-25 18:09
Excellent news! A truly wonderful Christmas present this. I can't wait to watch the special and get ready for season 2.
Was saying just the other day in one of our rewatch threads that we really need a season 2 for this. This story seems too good to not get a full adaptation.
Strongly urge anyone who hasn't watched it yet to give it a go. Very thankful to u/italeteller for hosting the rewatch and getting me to give this a go. One of my all-time favourites now.
italeteller2025-12-25 21:48
Glad you liked it! I'll see you on the season 2 threads :D
Mami-kouga2025-12-25 18:09
That means my favourite arc gets animated! Obligatory sick. Wicked sick
Cool_Confection_32742025-12-25 18:11
Figured given the manga ended
OrbitalCat-2025-12-25 18:12
Wait what? I could've sworn this was already announced, and was supposed to air next winter
That's why I've been watching the first season lol
amor1216162025-12-25 18:31
Best Christmas news!😁🎄

actionfirst12025-12-25 18:42
This is Unprecedented!!
DrStein10102025-12-25 18:46
Oh thank god.
I have a LOT of complaints about season 1, but I need this fully adapted, damn it.
Common-Somewhere-7462025-12-25 18:49
I wish they change direction. The SHAFT-esque direction is painful at times and ruins the pace.
Dnny992025-12-25 18:54
Awesome news. One of my favorite manga, period. If you havnt read or watched it, Undead Unluck has an insanely creative power system, set in a very cool world, with one of the best utilized ensemble casts, which hosts some of the craziest story shake ups in recent memory. Dont let the beginning deter you, the gross sexual assault 'jokes' are dropped entirely from the series after around 10 chapters or a couple episodes, never to surface again. Its one of those series thats just super fun to think about in between sessions, both because of how dense the chapters are and with how intricate the setting is. I highly recommend it, just in time too as a new special with some original content also released today!
Extreme-Tactician2025-12-25 18:57
Some of my favorite arcs are about to be animated!

The Christmas special gave it hope for this happen. Underrated and underrappreciated, so it is really a good thing.
And u/italeteller, it was a right thing to host a rewatch of that.
MedicOfTime2025-12-25 22:37
Wait, what was that episode last night then?
Shimmering-Sky2025-12-25 22:47
That was a TV special sequel to season 1, not a proper season 2. Think of it like how Demon Slayer S1's sequel was the Mugen Train movie but then went back to TV seasons afterwards, only with a TV special instead of a movie.
Vultouri032025-12-25 22:58
We’re so back. Can’t wait to see two of the best manga arcs (hopefully they get to that point)

I'm really curious to see how anime-only folks react the battle against Spring. It's a very unorthodox shounen battle.
Tosobi2025-12-26 01:28
There better be a season 2 with that sly little Feng cliffhanger
darkmacgf2025-12-26 02:59

ohoni2025-12-26 04:44
Thank God, hopefully now with less padding.
dagreenman182025-12-26 05:10
Honestly my favorite gift today. Was a little scared we wouldn’t get to the next part because we got the movie. David Pro is passionate about it and the manga is complete so fingers crossed we get the whole series.
Vivid-Map-35502025-12-26 05:44
When is it gonna be?
TheStupid_Guy2025-12-26 06:24
Let’s hope it’s not delayed by 3 months on streaming like season 1 was
liggieep2025-12-26 20:04
i stopped watching s1 because there was clearly some production issue when more than halfway in the show became mostly recap and recycled animation, and it was sort of unwatchable.
i dont understand how others didnt have this issue :/
