monster - is it worth giving a fifth try

I've been meaning to watch Monster since middle school, I think I have started and given up maybe 4 times. I am 25 years old right now and the last time I tried I was 19. I always used to hear people say it's the best anime but hard to understand. Since I am more mature now, is it worth giving a 5th try, or maybe was it just not my cup of tea?

Normally I'd say fuck no but with the caveat that you were really young when you watched it, yeah, I'd recommend giving it a shot as an adult.

If it's not your thing, it is what it is, but I think it's worth a shot as an adult!

Pluto was so good. Yeah I'm with this comment. It's much shorter but offer the same vibe and feel as Monster.

I don't think any anime is worth 5 tries honestly. If you didn't like it the first 4 times there's very little chance your opinion is going to change much.

Stick it out! I think i watched it when i was around 25 too, it really left an impression on me and is one of my all time favorites

I probably wouldn't have liked it as a young teen. Tbh the show is a slow burn. I hate saying you need to watch a lot of episodes before it gets good, but the show is long and really sets things up slowly. I ditched it once too and gave it another shot and when everything starts to come together it's an amazing show.

Its not hard to understand. Just a lot of people find boring and have hard time being engaged with it, because its really slow and dialogue heavy.

Some people enjoy it and some do not. Worst case scenario you can drop it for the 5TH time.

It's a nice show with really complex villians. However, the pacing is extremely slow (and there's some filler too).

If what turned you off was the pace, that's not going to change. It's not like it has special mature themes that are all that different between 19 and 25.

If you feel like you have more time and want to see the mystery slowly unravel, it's worth a watch.

when the doctor meet the blonde young guy for the first time (he was really nice but creepy) that's all I remember.

there was some interesting story arc with his doctorship-- I think he was asked to save someone else to sacrifice another, he refused and his wife left her. it was really interesting actually, but I really couldn't get the thing between him and the blond kid

No. 19 is an old enough age to know what you like. Monster isnt really hard to understand, especially compared to totally implicit storytelling series. In contrast it wears its themes on its sleeve. If you find it boring then thats that

Uh.....no? Shows like Monster, which are more of a slow burn, I am open to arguing you should give more time. Still for most anime I would argue you drop if you don't like the first episode, and for Monster it's not that much more.

The best anime is Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, Clannad, Vinland Saga, Gintama, Frieren Beyond Journey's End....everyone has a best anime..

Do you like slow burn crime thrillers?? That is what Monster is targeting, if no, who cares what other people think. You should look for the best work, that fits a genre or kind of story you like.

If it's just the pacing...yeah maybe give Pluto a shot. It's faster, granted I liked it less than Monster, largely because i think Monster's long run time, allows it to setup all these great side characters/plots, which was the highlight of the show to me, over the Johan/Tenma conflict.

I can tell you I personally enjoyed Monster, but it is a slow paced kind of story-telling, if you can sit through it, and you love racking your brain a little bit, you should go for it, but I say if you keep giving up on something, then it's best to put it to rest, but if something gets your attention, why not try it out, so its your call.

Some media you do gain more of an appreciation for as you mature, and start to understand some of the nuance that you might have not picked up on before, but if you've tried it 4 times before and it's not clicked, then it'll probably never click.
