Would you recommend Code Geass?
I don't want a BIASED, LELOUCH ANGST PILLED, 'TS IS SO DEEP' PILLED, EMO PILLED opinion. I want TRUE, UNBIASED, UNGLAZED opinions that states it's highs and lows. And no, I don't mind spoilers. I already got spoiled on the Euphy scene, it seems bullshit.

I couldn't get into Code Gras, sadly. The power suits, the battle tactics, the characters, the smarm, it all rubbed me the wrong way. Oh well, no harm done! Some people love it, I didn't. Give it a try, at worst you stop and at best you find something you love.
The first episode is a good representation of the entire show.
That's also why I don't tend to give recommendations when asked if the asker isn't giving any guidelines and "what's the best first anime" posts drive me a bit batty too.
My mom truly hates how stressful the anime was throughout most of it, but by the end she was crying quite bad with everything that happens
There was never a reason to care about any of the characters and zero stakes or suspense because Lmaolouch would just bs his way out of everything.
I might get hate for this but whatever, the show was boring.
It has its flaws, but it's a fun mix of action, mind games, suspense, and comedy. Compelling characters, intriguing plots, and wild twists.
Lelouch is egotistical to a point where he genuinely can be off putting, he's not your standard 'I'll always do the right thing because goodness and righteousness!', he's impetuous, petty and sometimes outright a monster in the way he uses and manipulates people and while it's all for the sake of other people he's a deeply troubled individual who clearly has no real interests outside of his own direct goals. There's no friendship is magic here, he's called out often for being such a bastard and rightfully so but it's not a story about his growth into a better person.
So it's not for everyone. Think Iron Blooded Orphans of Gundam fame. I LOVE IBO but it has a lot of people who absolutely hate it and that's fair.
It's a grim and dark world and outside of a handful or characters it doesn't really try to make you 'like' anyone as much as it tries to make you realize it's about winning. That's it. Even if he messes up, even if he makes a dumb mistake he doesn't try and apologize, he uses it.
And honestly that's why it's so high up on my list. It's different. A lot of the plot can be standard but the characters and the WAY things move forward genuinely make you feel invested, it doesn't apologize for being grim, it embraces the cruelty and viciousness of the world its created not to make a better world but for the main players to use it like a chess board for their own machinations.
To be clear and fair its not AS grim as IBO but the implications and cruelty definitely gets close.
And it's still one of the best anime I've seen. It's highs more than make up for its lows, and most of the things that would be flaws in another show are amplified to a degree that elevates the show to a Shakespearean-level tragedy.
(Also, the Euphie thing seems like bullshit until you realize that Geass wielders are all cursed -- the power will find the perfect opportunity to ruin everything they've worked for, if given the chance)
\- Some cringe over-the-top character body movements and silly stuff;
\- Some forced moments to progress the plot, but that doesn't make lots of sense;
\- Some stuff are presented so randomly and quickly, sometimes on random 5 seconds scenes, that you miss tons of context in your first watch;
\- There's an important plot-point regarding the Emperor that is never properly explained, so you're left wondering what was going on exactly.
I won't consider the school stuff as a low because I think they're relevant. But as you see, it has many flaws and it has plot-holes like any other story, great or otherwise.
Highs:
Basically everything else. MC is really good, charismatic and engaging. The deuteragonist is annoying but does his antagonistic role spectacularly well, on top of being a great and complex character. The tritagonist is a cool, mysterious and interesting female MC. The supporting cast is really good, and all the characters arcs and development are done incredibly well. The story is very strong, the twists very surprising and hyped. The ending is still considered by many as the greatest or even perfect.
Depending on your taste and tolerance to ignore some stuff, you may say it's a bad, forced anime, or that it's a 10/10. Being honest and fair, I think it's at least an 8, with many elements of a 10, but far from perfect or without its issues. However, it's not like there's anything perfect, or even close to it.
That's very much a high point for me lol
Code Geass is an extremely entertaining show that has a lot of strengths; and the one that makes it a hit with most people is probably how varied it is. CG is a military show, a Mecha action show, a political drama, a highschool anime, a scifi/sci-fantasy show, and sometimes even a comedy.
Almost everything is there, and most of it is very well executed. The narrative is compelling and moves fast, and the main character is someone you either love or hate (both of which invoke emotional investment), the art is stylish and original by anime standards, and the animation is pretty good too. The openings are bangers as well.
As for the depth of it, the show makes some passable (if simplistic) commentary on the problems of colonial oppression and racism, but the actual strength of the show is in the character exploration of Lelouch as an immature and overambitious genius, and in passing the message that power not only changes and isolates people, but that when misused (even with good intentions) it can create great injustice.
Cons? It's ridiculously sexualized; seriously, every female character is more or less a walking insult to the female sex. Also the tone sometimes suffers from the show's attempt to be everything at once, and the consequent difficulty in reconciling all into a cohesive story (the cat episode anyone?). Some might also say the message gets muddled and lost sometime in season 2, there's definitely valid criticism out there when it comes to the narrative but it's been a while since I've watched it so I won't go into at this time.
All in all, I think it's an extremely entertaining show that can easily be considered very good if you enjoy the genres and can overlook its flaws. You may end up not liking it, but I definitely recommend giving it a try.
No such thing exists.
Code Geass does have a good moral conundrum between revolution vs rebellion, when facing colonialism. People get upset at Suzaku however, I think that dilemma is shown very well.
The action and melodrama can be a bit much however fun. I thought S1 was largely good and S2 somewhat flawed throughout most of the run, however, it sticks the landing, which I guess is all that matters.
Lelouch is good though no Reinhard von Lohengramm or Char Aznable (who he really is based off).....that's about it. I haven't watched Code Geass in a long time though, probably should at some point.
It wouldn't be in my top 5 favorite mecha anime of all time, however, it's a solid addition to the genre.
If you want to watch something indisputably capital G "Good".... No.
But hey, man, it's fun.
I also think that I never got to whatever point people generally find polarizing.
