the first season is peak tho.
thought this would be trash based on the name but watched it every week as it aired and loved it
It had a great first half. But then decided to abandon everything that made the first half great. Going from an exciting detective story to a whole lot of boring philosophy monologues.
Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Raidsa ni Naritai. Didn't expect to enjoy it after watching it on a whim & now very glad its getting a 2nd cour.
SANDA. The premise sounded intriguing enough, and very glad I watched it. Love the music, the artstyle, the story, I hope we get the full manga animated.
Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? is the opposite. It looks like it's gonna be a shitty off the wall gag anime but it unexpectedly dials it up to 11, surprising you at every turn with how truly ridiculous it can get. S1 is amazing. After that is merely ok.
Sankarea looks and feels like it's going to be as generic stupid romcom, but I found myself enjoying the dark story line. Don't read the manga, it gets worse in the manga.
Steins;Gate starts off slow and is hard to get into, but I have about a hundred reasons why it's my favorite anime now.
It really nailed the "being rescued by a mature adult coach" fantasy.
And despite Nagi's well documented "assets", I was really happy with the minimal fanservice and genuine respect the story had for all of its characters.
I watched it prior to the game getting translated, and i was honestly expecting a mid gacha adaptations. But, what i get is a genuinely gripping story and characters. It honestly go blow for blow with the best sports anime out there
* Tojima wants to be a Kamen Rider:
Expected Kick Ass but Tokusatsu, but got Samurai Flamenco with Kamen Rider.
* Sanda:
I didn't know that it's by the same author as Beastars, so I expected a funny shounen, maybe some slice of life comedy around the premise of a highschooler turning into Santa. What I got was something else entirely :'D
i was surprised at how well the characters, story, and worldbuilding are.
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
Parasyte: The Maxim.
Berserk: the Golden Age 1-3.
After consuming “hero’s journey” shows for so long you forget that the hero doesn’t always win. Hero is a term we made up and morality is just a lens of whose story we’re being told, ie who we are convinced to agree with.
Saishuuheiki Kanojo (I was not expecting to cry)
Scrapped Princess
Medalist
A place further than the universe
Zetsuen no tempest
Parasyte the maxim
