Black Clover Anime vs. Manga

With the Black Clover anime coming back, how does the anime compare vs. the manga? (Only with what the anime has covered.) I did watch the Bleach OG anime, and outside of pacing after the Soul Society Arc, I really enjoyed it, including skipping fillers. It felt satisfying for that one to be caught up when TYBW started.

The manga is better due to its great pacing and artwork. The weaker arcs early on aren't any better in the manga, but you sure do breeze past them quickly. I do think big moments land better in the anime better though.

Yeah part of the reason the anime is such a pain on the beginning is not only due to Asta's screams or the lower quality animation (FWIW I never thought it was that bad) but the fact the early arcs are bad and because the anime is slower-paced we spend more time in them. That and the fact that Pierrot took the decision to flanderize the characters and make them even more quirky and annoying at times.

The first episode is by far the worst for Asta, his seiyuu's voice delivery for his shouts just sounded ridiculous, by even like episode 4 it's a non-factor and he gets better and better as the show goes.

The early arcs are also weaker in the manga, but you fly by them. I actually did enjoy arc 4 more in the anime I think, but that could have been because it was the first time I went through it.

The main draw of the manga is that your ears won't bleed from Asta screaming.

Like, the first half of the anime is rough to go through solely because of that. It does get better as it goes on, and by halfway through, it's no longer an issue.

There aren't any particular pacing issues I remember.

You are exaggerating imo. It's only bad the first like 20 episodes or so. It's really bad, don't get me wrong. But to say half the anime is crazy

You’re wrong though, it’s the first 50 episodes that are bad. The anime doesn’t start getting good, in both animation quality and direction, till during the end of the water temple arc and honestly mostly starting afterwards. The witches forest arc is where the anime can finally be considered genuinely good.

Then it’s even worse, his voice is unbearable for much more than 50 episodes, it just becomes tolerable after 50 episodes because 1) you’ve gotten used to it, and 2) the animation quality increases exponentially making it far more enjoyable to watch and overlook the annoying things. Honestly his voice actor doesn’t get “better” till after 100 episodes, you’re crazy for thinking 20. Common advice is to watch black clover in the English dub because so many people drop the jp version due to the VA.

Manga is almost over. Just super slow release schedule. Like 3 chapters every 2 months.

But yea the animation on anime is great. Some fun battles upcoming for the new season.

Wanted to get back at you because I decided to rewatch it.

Definitely worth it. The first 20 episode are rough because of screaming Asta, than the animation is rough for like the next 20. The exact point the show goes from fine to good is episode 46, and it only gets better from there on.
