Main story:

* Fate/stay night (2006) **(DISCLAIMER: primarily follows the Fate Route, but incorporates some elements from the other two. I like it enough to recommend it, so I will. But even aside from that, it's still part 1 of the main story so it should be seen anyway. If you don't want to watch it, the other alternative is to experience the Fate Route as it is in the Visual Novel, whether by playing it yourself or watching a walkthrough.)**
* Unlimited Blade Works (2014)
* Heaven's Feel Trilogy

Prequel:

* Fate/Zero **(DISCLAIMER: if you just want to watch one great show and then dip from the franchise, it's a perfectly fine standalone (not gonna gatekeep). However, don't start with it if you plan to commit)**

Spinoffs:

* Carnival Phantasm **(needs some knowledge from Tsukihime as well, but there's no anime of that 😎)**
* Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya
* Fate/Apocrypha
* Today's Menu for the Emiya Family **(jokingly referred to as "Fate/Cooking")**
* Fate/Extra: Last Encore
* Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note **(needs Fate/Zero for context)**
* Fate/Grand Order:
- First Order **(Prologue)**
- Divine Realm of the Round Table - Camelot **(6th Singularity)**
- Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia **(7th Singularity)**
- The Grand Temple of Time - Solomon **(Final Singularity & End of Part 1)**
- Moonlight/Lostroom **(prelude/setup for Part 2)**
- Fate/Grand Carnival **(the Grand Order version of Carnival Phantasm)**
* Fate/strange Fake

it's mostly in order, other than the spinoffs. They can be seen whenever (though Grand Order does have an order, but I already have that covered)

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:42

Ahhhhh thanks a lot mate i really appreciate it
The series overwhelmed me lol

magnidwarf19002025-12-26 16:40

Fate Stay Night>UBW>Heaven's feel

You can watch Fate Zero anytime in between

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:41

Ahhhhhh I see
So should I start with fate zero first people say that's the right chronological order but some say not to

MaximalDisguised2025-12-26 16:44

Fate Zero is a prequel that was written later on. It assumes you know Fate Stay Night already.

See order here:

magnidwarf19002025-12-27 05:30

You can, but I'd recommend at least watching Fate Stay Night first.

this is what the fate subreddit recommends

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:42

Ahhhhh i seeee

ihatechoosngusername2025-12-26 16:42

Watch one, then you'll have watched them all

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:43

Yea but the order overwhelmed me the help I was just provided will actually allow me to start without spoiling it for me

vAltyR472025-12-26 16:44

This will be an unpopular opinion for /r/anime, but the VN is on sale on Steam right now. Do yourself a favor, and start there.

If you want, you can just read the first route (they have an enforced reading order) and then watch the UBW anime and the Heaven's Feel movies. Then watch Fate/zero, read hollow ataraxia, and then the rest of the spinoffs in whatever order you please.

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:47

The VN is starting right?
What is it thou like a game or something? It's my first time

vAltyR472025-12-26 16:53

Yep, the Fate/stay night VN is what started the whole series.

It's an application you run on a computer, but it's basically reading with pictures and voices, some very limited animations, no real gameplay. You make choices to affect which route you're on, and which ending you'll get, but that's about it.

Code_Red_9742025-12-26 16:45

I would genuinely start with Fate/Zero, then watch Unlimited Blade Works, skip Fate/Stay Night (not all that good imo), and then maybe watch the Heaven's Feel trilogy. I really wanna watch the Heaven's Feel trilogy myself. There is no real order for the spinoffs. You can just kinda watch whichever of those peaks your interest.

8andahalfby112025-12-26 16:58

Fate/Zero is really tough if watched first. Most people on this thread will say not to do it because of the spoilers, but I would argue not to do it because StayNight and UBW both do a better job at explaining the rules of the Battle Royale. And considering how much the leads of Zero spend their time flaunting the rules, it's best to know how the vanilla version of the game is played first.

Heaven's Feel you MUST watch after UBW. There's just a lot of existing context you need first, and the leadup events at the start are summarized in a montage because they expect you to know them already.

I would argue that the best place to watch Zero either before or after Heaven's Feel--both spoil each other about equally and do a good job of setting up each other as climaxes.

Dat_Guy_Ova_There2025-12-26 16:46

This is the same question I always have, but for One Piece and Detective Conan o.0

Sneakylesbian2025-12-26 16:58

One Piece.... start at episode one. Look up a list to skip filler

Dat_Guy_Ova_There2025-12-27 07:00

I guess...still a lot to ask tho, feels like there wouldn't be much in the way of filler to skip. But maybe it's a case like Naruto Shippuden.

SeaAcanthisitta6922025-12-26 16:52

I highly reccomend to start with unlimited blade works series then movies thrn zero. 2006 looks bad so u might not want to continue the series after it, and zero doesnt work as the starting point

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 16:52

Have fun buying 3 different services to get just the first few installments, that’s why I gave up on the series.

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:54

I'll sail the high s- *cough* *cough* erm I don't have any other anime that i would like to watch anymore;-;
Some are just aura stuff some are just slow i can't find any which fulfills what i want anddddddd I dunno what new stuff I can start that I can continue yk

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 16:56

I used to, but the convenience of services these days make me not want to (plus the quality of third parties these days is ROUGH)

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 16:57

Not really thou they work just fine and the sub reddits make it super easy as well

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 16:59

Works super fine, and “can throw it on my tv without jumping through hoops and keeping a computer mouse at my side and running 3 adblockers and dealing with low res and server connection issues, etc etc”

Our ideas of fine are diff, I’m a whole ass adult, so it it ain’t as simple as click button on remote, then I probably don’t have enough time to justify goofing with it and would just choose a different easier hobby (alternatively if I DO have that much time, I also have hobbies I’d prefer to do than sifting through a bootleg website)

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 17:00

Chill chill

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 17:04

Is having a conversation about differing opinions and life situations not the chillest one can be?

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 17:05

Nah you just seemed riled up

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 17:12

Nah, just opening up about why I stopped using them, still think they are great for what they are, just not in that part of life anymore personally

Desperate-Lie-14992025-12-26 17:16

Ah I see
I mean I also used to pay but they weren't much different from the sites I am using rn soooo why should I pay and on top of that I am not the one making money so I don't wanna waste my parents money yk so yea if you can afford it go for it it's obviously much more reliable than these sites

timpkmn892025-12-26 17:06

Subscriptions are monthly, they're not a lifelong investment

SacaeGaming2025-12-26 17:14

Correct, I still didn’t want to pay a month to multiple streaming services I otherwise wouldn’t use even if it was for just a month (given I’d use it for 1-3 days max)

Codee332025-12-26 17:02

I’ll say watch the Ufotable adaptations, and then just go from there. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014) > Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel > Fate/Zero. Don’t make it too collocated to start.

timpkmn892025-12-26 17:09

>the chronological order

That's kinda hard since they're all (mostly) different universes, and different mediums. I guess first you'd have to start with the FGO chapter that begins in ancient Babylonia.
