What’s an anime you randomly started and ended up loving way more than expected?
I literally clicked play with zero expectations and somehow ended up bingeing the whole thing
For me, it was Mob Psycho 100. I thought it would just be goofy fun and it ended up hitting way harder than I expected
What was that anime for you?

actually the show that made me an anime fan
I just wanted to watch some trash because I was feeling a little down, and I didn't expect it to be one of the best stories I would ever experience
I’ve gone through it 3 times already, have made it a yearly Christmas watch now.
- Kemono Friends
- Arknights
Threw it on because the name seemed so absurd, it ended up being pretty interesting by the end of it all
Zenshu
The wrong way to use healing magic
The eminence in shadow
Shangri-la Frontier
Honey Lemon soda
Clevatess
Dandadan
Roshidere
Ossan newbie adventurer
These were the ones, whose posters/thumbnails I thought were interesting, and ended up giving them a try
Probably my favorite series I've seen in the past five years, it just had a great interplay between the characters and how their environment shapes them. And then it gets weird.
Buso Renkin
Clevatess
Slayers
Magic Knight Rayearth
Sora no Woto.
Hanasaku Iroha.
Turkey! Time to Strike.
Listeners.
Sakura Quest.
Ong best best slow burn quiet yet engaging anime
(Not the best answer since I started it with Season 1, so not a recent selection, but I was even more gratified by Season 2, which just ended. When this first started I had less than low expectations, with no idea how goofy and original feeling it would become, despite starting with so many familiar tropes.)
I started watching it just by chance. I thought Liz looked cute on the cover. I never imagined i would find my favorite comedy show in recent time.
First episode ended with me saying "what the fuck did I just watch?" And got to "I need more" by the end.
To your eternity
Berserk
Steins Gate
It's surprising how many people don't realize that Konosuba is an isekai parody. I guess it's not advertised outright, but past that it's still a great story with great characters
Banished from The Hero's Party, I decided to Live a Quiet Life in the Countryside. Expected Isekai trash, got a cute romance.
It’s still my favourite anime of all time.
When I was much younger I thought “why would I watch anime about PingPong??!”
Then I watched it.
Go Go Loser Ranger
Tengoku Daimakyo (Heavenly Delusion)
Devilman Crybaby.
I hated it too, the first episodes. But I try to watch at least 3 episodes and very glad i did. It turned out to be really good. Now it's one of my all time favorites.
Also idk if it's just me or have English dubs gotten much better in recent years?
I threw it on thinking I'd get a dude reincarnated as an OP sword, where not being a human is a mild inconvenience.
Instead I got sword dad trying to keep his adopted cat daughter from going full muderhobo.
I binged Season 1 in 3 days, Season 2 in 4, until i had to wait for the live broadcasts.
It's an absolute triumph.
Even Oshi no Ko, which I did not realize existed until the day it aired and I watched it, I did at least watch it because I saw some strong recommendations that same day, so I assumed it would likely be worth my time based on that.
saw the title card on Crunchyroll but i'm big on art style, and from a distance I was like "eh...nah."
ran out of stuff to watch and was scrolling reddit when someone mentioned it. figured i'd try it out.
now i've seen all of the anime, read all of the manga, and considering drawing up an OC for the universe cause I am OBSESSED.
it was like whiplash lol
much goofier than i expected and some scenes are still stuck in my mind
Randomly searched one day who is considered greatest villain in anime expecting Madara's name, instead read Johan Liebert in many posts, decided to give this anime a try and loved every episode.
Very underrated.
Fucking masterpiece that shit is, one of the best anime ever.
For such a silly reverse Isekai type premise, fell in love with the characters and the world. I love when New chapters drop
It was really different from the other anime I had watched back then which were just action series.
I started it on a whim in 2020 after seeing it on IMDB of all places. Five years later and I've collected merch, kept up with all the seasons, and even seen ASAKA in concert (performer of several op and ed songs)
Same with konosuba. 6/10, it’s silly, but worth watching when you don’t have anything else to watch
It felt like that whole show was made just for me. The soundtrack is perfection, the opening episodes are perfect, the overarching themes it explores really resonated with me and also the overall feel / atmosphere of the world building is so whimsical, cozy with that hint of danger we expect from a fantasy.
Also golden kamuy is as much a historical fiction as it is an absurdist comedy and also a cooking show… and also an action adventure and also a hunting anime… you get it. It was much more than I knew about it going in.
Anyway, historical fiction is cool. Currently binging Vinland Saga like I’ve been living under a rock and enjoying that too.

I hated long title series, and I thought I'd hate it 'coz what's a slime gonna do? But I saw a post with the person reincarnated, before dying asking some random person to delete his browser history. So I watched it.*Note: Deleting his browser history was completely irrelevant to the story. Hmff*
My neighbor is a cat for a fun show
Cells at work for something fun as well
Kingdom saw the bad cgi in s1, dropped it at first, but later decided to watch it again, sins s3 aired, then got so hooked i watched it all in 2 days and rematch some moments a lot of time
I taught it would be some boring stuff about a guy trying to be a professor... lol
I judged it by its title and thought it was going to be ecchi harem slop, but it turned out to be a meaningful commentary on censorship wrapped in a fun adventure. Definitely worth the watch.
Liked it so much I ended up buying all the manga and light novels to read 😂
