It's been said a million times, but Legend of the Galactic Heroes is truly special and will never be replicated
110 episodes across 9 years. A perfectly told story with a great beginning, middle and end, never jumping the shark or losing its effectiveness, that manages to simultaneously feel epic (Literal definition here, even if the word has been abused to death) but like it's not dragging on or bloated. A perfect conflict with two sides that will always have its ardent supporters. Incredible monologues and moments that will endure. Great voice acting. Great soundtrack.
It's been nearly 30 years since this series ended and I don't think we will ever have anything like it ever again within our lifetimes. There will be great series of around 40 episodes total at most, and series that start great but degrade with time. But this? Is there really any hope that this will ever be replicated? It was lighting in a bottle.

From what we know they rebroadcast the entire series this year and the production committee changed.
I should check the audio books out. Thanks for the heads up.
Will be a good way to re-experience the series in the future after watching the original though, whenever it finally reaches the end.
The classical music made it feel like I was watching an old BBC war documentary which really helped the immersive-ness of LoGH.
I know there are others things out there than the 110 original episodes, but I will assume to just give it a go from those 110 before even planning on checking out what the later releases have to offer.
That said, you got through Kingdom's first season just fine, so I don't anticipate you having any trouble.
But I think nothing wrong with thinking or feeling disappointed with extremely hyped shows. I just know for me, things can hit different at different times. Like if I have nothing at all to watch, i'd appreciate a show I didn't care for when I was busy watching a bunch at the same time. I mean even till now Frieren is not my favorite or number 1 show, I still tease friends in-person that live & die by the show...but my second watch through I definitely had a new appreciation for all the stuff I ignored the first watch through.
The animation definitely shows its age but the characters and writing are just so damn good. I also think the classical music is a better backdrop than the more 'modern' music in DNT.
So my internal debate was nothing serious, just had vague impressions from reviews and haven't dove into an episode myself. But will most likely get to it soon...Except..I just started Bleach lmao..Even with skipping fillers, I know that will take up some time if I plan on finishing that before trying Legend of the Galactic Heroes, let alone with whatever new stuff starts dropping this coming season.
I think it will be a very long time before something comes along that even approaches LoGH in how it was so well thought-out and written.
Kingdom is one of my all time favorite series I have even season 1 at a 10/10 despite that animation because while thats a big flaw I would much rather something like Kingdom with great story, chars and emotional moments that hit so hard for me than something with insane animation but is either lackluster or makes me annoyed because of the story/chars.
\[Kingdom\]>!I legit cried when he died and in the entire series at so many moments crying and when I was binging it even got up and screamed and clapped during Coallition arc lol.!<
A true "Epic" in every sense of the word.
10/10 anime.
The only stuff that could be justifiably argued to be on the same level are AoT, MiA and Mob100.
Just to be clear, they didn't drop 110 episodes on Netflix, and watch it flop. OVAs are direct-to-video releases, if you've ever heard of DVDs, they were sold on similar, but older releases, and they were sold one at a time, until there were enough to sell as seasons.
So let's say, the first 10 flopped, because I, of course, trust in your accurate wealth of knowledge. Pray tell how exactly did they make 110 episodes, three movies, two spin-off series, and had the incentive to re-release the OVAs twice, then do a remake? Where was all that money coming from?
Let's see... "Mrjuiocyaf doesn't know anything"?
As for the classified files, you can keep them. I've seen enough of those lately.
There's a very select handful of choice I'd allow above LoGH:
AoT
MiA
Mob100
DN
And you hit one of them <3
>The show has already laid out its cards and shown its strengths.
It hasn't laid out its cards by episode 15 though. Episode [LoGH]>!26!< is when [Massive LoGH spoiler]>!Kircheis sets the entire story in motion!<.
If that episode doesn't hook someone, I'd say it's clear they probably won't be hooked by the rest of the story. But before that the show hasn't really shown much of what makes it such a compelling narrative.
Everything before that is really just a long prologue in my mind, since that single big event will have lasting effects all the way to the very end of the series.
I need to put it on my watch list. Is the remake good?
This just isn't replicated in the modern day, where, in a book, you can only read so much about action, but you can fill the rest with exposition and heavy discussions. You can't really do that with most manga because it will get called boring.
I wish more novel series like this got a treatment where the focus is on themes, and not just flash. Dune would have been a fantastic example of this.
At least in the west we had things like The Expanse, and still technically have Star Wars and Star Trek kicking about alongside various movies that come and go.
Instead of the usual light novel trash or manga adaptions LotGH are actual novels
Once Yang started dealing against competent people is when the series started to pick up in quality
I'll get around to watching the original soon I promise
They got a new production committee recently, they are still working on it
I can understand placing AoT, MiA, DN and Mob100 on the same level, bit what could be above?
2. Girls’ Last Tour
3. Legend of the Galactic Heroes
4. Chihayafuru
5. Ping Pong the Animation
I think that is something that should be mentioned because at the end of the day its an animated show so that is definitely an important aspect to a degree.
the actual spaceship battles are also kinda meh as the tactics seem to be mostly lifted from historical battles, neat idea but kinda silly to actually use in the 3 dimensional space.
I am never going to watch the original, so I guess this is where my LotGH journey ends.
If the new one were to continue, I'd eat it up as it airs.
It gets picked apart and gets bombarded with reductive interpretations purely because its presentation is shonen, but its such an effective and thrilling experience while also being meaningful. I think people are super weird about it purely because of how popular it is to the point where they just ignore details to affirm their own narratives
logh is more like a book in its presentation while aot is moulded into a better flowing tv experience. They are much different in how they deliver their plots and the mechanics of the world, but I really think both are exceptional modes of delivery. Logh excels in large moving pieces while aot focused hard on the emotional human psyche aspects.
3 seasons in, I think I stopped cause I caught up. Waiting for the full series before marathoning it
But you've already watched the best in genre.
