Both of those are awesome with a large and fun cast.

I wouldn't call them underrated though.

Dead Mount Death Play is also by the same author which is a fun show too, this also has a large cast.

Baccano is one of my favorite anime of all time. Very sophisticated nonlinear storytelling style, and I was a huge fan of the MC Fido (who ironically didn’t get enough screen time imo). Tons of characters, and I highly recommend. That said, I could never get into Durarra. BUT it has the most addictive opening of all time

They are definitely underrated. Some of the best anime i have ever seen in my 15 years of watching anime.

I prefer Durarara but Baccano is close behind it.

durarara has fans. I didn't like it. it has a strong ep1 then nothing goes anywhere. it just introduces new characters and little happens. it's look how eccentric these characters are. then introduce a new one. and over explain everything repeatedly. hate that kind of writing.

They are good, i dont think the word underrated fits but rather they should definitely be watched and not be forgotten.

Baccano, excellent. Durarara, very good, but it kinda dilutes over time.

Loved Baccano. The way the story is told throws some people, so just be ready to jump around.

I'd suggest Gangata as well

I tried to watch Durrara and Baccano both a couple of times.

Neither could hold my attention... that is, they were for me the kind of show that I try to watch but I'm so disengaged that I start thinking about other things. I realize this, back up a bit to watch that again and a few seconds later realize I'm thinking of something else and completely missed what's going on again.

I give a show a few tries, especially when people consider it good. I like to follow authors of shows I like.

So I was surprised when Dead Mount Death Play became one of my favorite shows ever. It's the kind of show I don't have to force myself to follow because I find the characters engaging. The story is clever, there are lots of interesting characters with interesting motivations.

And then I tried Durrara and Baccano again.

Same as original result, could not follow, I was completely disengaged.

So those are my thoughts.

Baccano! was never underrated. It’s the kind of show people loudly claim is underwatched, even though it has 900k members on MAL. It had a reputation as a “cool” and “different” anime, something fans used to distance themselves from the normie crowd, and that was back in 2007.

What makes Baccano! special is its premise. Once you put the events in a normal order, the plot itself isn’t that mind-blowing, especially compared to something like Odd Taxi. Odd Taxi sticks to a standard three-act structure and still feels tighter and more impactful.

As for Durarara!!, it’s more of a city-vibes show to me. You watch it for the worldbuilding, the people, and the city culture. It’s about seeing different walks of life collide, with some weird supernatural stuff happening on the side.

Narita is very good at making a premise feel stylish. But when it comes to dialogue, he’s pretty basic. His plotting is above average and can be interesting, but it’s also uneven and very much an acquired taste.

I personally did not like Baccano, but was also like 12 when I watched that

I loved Durarara and would most certainly recommend watching the first season. HIGHLY suggest considering it a one season show though. All the x2 seasons are awful and completely lose the plot and all the magic the show had in the first place.

Baccano is an easy mega pick I think.

Durarara I remember bouncing off from it hard then revisiting it years later and loving it so mileage can vary on that one for some
