What can I say? They hate me for my knack for recognizing greatness.
I don't know if I ever dropped a girl 1 spot in my prediction ranking for reason of haircut, but she might be a first.
Hah, more often than not it's the smile for me!
Interesting. I wonder if the manga was that horny too, or Arms amped it up a bit.

Didn't expect the mangaka (wearing a chicken mask as she doesn't want her face on camera) to state one part of Beastars is based on childhood memories of walking though Tokyo's red-light district while her mother was saying keep your eyes down (simultaneously scary and piquing curiosity).
On the production side I didn't expect the voice acting (pre-scoring) to be performed as they were in a stage production (given the narrator said Orange implies it's more than Beastars)
One of these days I'll talk about these before they're about expire...maybe today: [The upcoming one (tomorrow) is about Sports Manga & Anime and includes a behind the scenes for Medalist](https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/2099028/). Going by the URL that's the 28th one overall.
These are part-doc, part-advertorial so they're designed around having a short shelf life and that makes me sad because the information contained within gets easily lost or we're stuck trawling fragile secondary sources like blogs, forums, social media. I do understand this is nothing new for broadcast media and organisations like NHK have finite resources and capacity.
Speaking of which, I could have sworn [*10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki*](https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/shows/10yearshayaomiyazaki/) was going to expire in 2026 but it's gone now. Thankfully that one actually has been licensed elsewhere (including home releases). That isn't the one with the infamous *"insult to life itself"* quote (that was *Never Ending Man - Hayao Miyazaki*) but it is part of the same Kaku Arakawa series of one cameraman shadowing Miyazaki.

I haven't watched S2 yet, the main reason being irritation at Satou's choices on some matters. So [seeking Wedding Rings S2 spoilers] >!have he and Krystal had sex yet?!<
[](#smughaikyuu)
[Action] >!I'll pick it up again, now that I know Krystal isn't just going to be suffering for the entire series! Thanks for the info!!<
If it helps, S2 will go back to an arc structure that’s more similar to early Frieren.
I love hamburgers, and I love sushi, but if I go out for sushi, I don't want to suddenly have my spicy tuna maki swapped out for a cheeseburger.
I'd also argue that swapping genres is a point in its favor, not against it. Frieren has always switched tones and genres. It swaps from poignant drama with Frieren first realizing her grief in the prologue to a big dragon fight to episodic slice of life for a few episodes to the demon arc full of action to comedy for a few episodes to poignant drama with the Old Man Vol episode all before the exam arc. I don't feel this arc is much more of a swap than any of those, and I think it's intentional. Frieren is a travelogue, it's meant to feel like an adventure. That constant swapping of tone and genre makes it feel more like an adventure, it goes against the very stagnation that always threatens Frieren as a character. Of course Frieren has a big battle shounen arc, how could it feel like a real adventure without one? Though I'd also argue it's the series second big battle shounen arc after the demon arc, so not even a major switch-up (and also a pretty darn fun battle shounen, feels like early Hunter x Hunter to me). I've always thought Frieren felt like a battle shounen at least as much as it feels like a slice of life travelogue.
I'm a fantasy nerd, so if something I'm reading or watching gives me a world, I will try and pay attention to it and understand how it works. I love when elements mesh together and form a richer whole; conversely, I detest when elements actively clash and present an inconsistent view of the world.
Now, we will try and understand how magic works in Frieren:
* We know spells can be learned, as Frieren spent much of the show traveling around and collecting magic. Additionally, learning a spell was offered as a reward at the end of the exam, so we know that this isn't some skill unique to Frieren.
* Most of the mages we meet in the second half are incredibly one dimensional. We have the water girl, the ice girl, the earth guy, the illusion guy, the cutting girl, &c. It basically looks like a signature magic system, where everyone has their one thing (on top of a few basics).
* [Frieren]>!Additionally, we know that for many of them, this is not a preference/being best at one particular thing, but instead basically the only magic they can use. For instance, the water girl appears to have no backup plan for when she doesn't have access to water. And others appeared to not have any sort of backup style they could fall back on when they ran into someone whose style of magic countered their own.!<
* [Frieren]>!Additionally, despite this supposedly being a test for the rare and coveted highest level mage rank, almost all of the participants (everyone but Denken and Frieren) are young.!<
* [Frieren]>!Together, these imply that magic is largely innate, and that ones magical abilities—both in terms of raw output and the type of magic one can do—are determined at birth. Otherwise, mages would learn how to use multiple types of magic, if only so they don't run into a pokemon-style counter matchup. Even if they were slower/not as good at their secondary and tertiary style, it would still be better to have than simply being fucked if your default style is completely nonfunctional due to terrain or matchup.!<
* [Frieren]>!Similarly, older people (i.e. not in their 20s) who have spent more time learning the tricks of the trade, how to take advantage of situations, practicing dueling, &c. would be much better and well rounded mages if magic was actually knowledge-based.!<
* [Frieren]>!However, this obviously clashes with everything the first half of the show told us about Frieren going around and learning differing magics from all over.!<
In general, I love a fantasy work that I can dig my teeth into. Great ones let me think about them for dozens of hours, and at the end of it I'm left with greater appreciation for their world than I had beforehand. Meanwhile, I cannot think about Frieren for five minutes without wanting to tear my hair out.
There's also a general lack of attention to detail. For instance, let us consider water girl again. Take, for instance, water girl. In theory, she's at least a somewhat competent mage who lives in a dangerous world and knows how to take care of herself. Additionally, she's dependent on her water based-magic to do so. [Frieren]>!Yet she does not carry water with her when going into dangerous situations.!< It makes her seem either incompetent or utterly foolish. The series is replete with such details, and this arc makes them painfully obvious.
---
To be clear, I do not believe that every work of fantasy needs an incredibly well developed view on how their magic works. However, Frieren invites the question. It puts magic at the centerpiece, and then cannot even bother to have a consistent theory on how it works. To me, this is offensively lazy.
Overall, I don't even think I'd call Frieren a bad anime. But I would call it a significantly subpar story that was heavily carried by good prod. If I walked into my local library and grabbed a random book from the fantasy section, odds are I'd get a better thought out work than Frieren.
Well written. This perspective of Frieren is rarely written in this subreddit.
Here, the problem for me is that we are suddenly introduced to a whole host of characters without much to go on. I need to know these characters to care what happens to them. That's missing here. And what little backstory we have got so far (those two girls in Frieren's group) is so bland and undercooked, it feels insulting.
All the way up until Sein, we got characters that were interesting and were given time to breathe. Even one off characters like Old Man Voll were developed enough in one (or even half an) episode to make me care about them. Jumping right into battle and filling us in on their background along the way seems like a bad choice.
Again, I'm only 2 episodes in and maybe it gets better, but this feels like a definite drop in the quality of writing to the point where I would actually probably put this on hold if I wasn't part of a rewatch.
Good to know s2 will go back to the early Frieren structure though. That makes me feel a bit relieved.
I still enjoy the series, anime and beyond, but the exam arc really is sort of disjointed from the context of an anime only. It serves more as an introduction arc for future characters and their own respective story lines. I think that people will look at it more fondly as future seasons make it feel less disjointed in relation to the overarching narrative.

I can't think off the top of my head of a whole title, even a short one, like this, though. Maybe someone else here can!
Corner case: one English dub of Macross Plus was sold in Japan for a Japanese audience in VHS copies with Japanese subtitles (and was eventually included on the Japanese Plus bluray release). It was sold as "Macross Plus: International Version". I don't know why they did this (beyond "to make money"!), but possibly one factor is that Plus is a very cosmopolitan story that could plausibly be taking place in diegetic English. However, when Plus was first made and sold they recorded a (good!) Japanese voice track, and the English dubbing came later, so this isn't an exact example.
- The dialogue in **Junk Head** is all subtitled (the voices are muffled and incoherent).
- **Blood the Last Vampire** being mostly set on an American military base is primarily in English where the Japanese release has subtitles (according to [a Japanese review of the Blu-ray](https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/series/buy/283044.html)).
Myabe that latter one is learning towards things like K-On the movie and Psycho-Pass the movie which have parts in English (really bad English in the case of the latter).
edit: just remembered **Cipher: The Video**. It's set in New York and I forgot that had dialogue in-between various 80s music like *Let's Hear it for the Boy & Footloose*.
Not sure if there are any anime that are entirely like that.
But Chihayafuru continues to be good, though it is settling down into a bit too much of a predictable pattern with how the matches go.
> And Showa Genroku Rakugo... oh boy. I really hated the series finale, or aspects of it. Taints my view of the two seasons leading to it.
[I understand](https://i.imgur.com/o5kDz8J.jpeg)
I guess it can be more difficult coming up with exciting twists to Karuta matches as opposed to basketball or other traditional tea, sports...
The karuta matches themselves are most interesting early on when both the characters and the audience are learning more about the game and the strategies and skills. Later on how good the matches are become more dependant on how well they serve as a vehicle for developing the character and narrative themes. But it's a sports series after all so that's to be expected.
Outside the main group I really liked the Desk-kun-Kana-Nikuman trio and their dynamic. Sumire has some great moments too though her archetype is not one I typically enjoy. But when it comes down to it Shinobu has to be my favourite character by far.

Like, the biggest things I can't wait to watch next year are tied to works I'm already a fan (Gundam Hathaway 2, Bleach TYBW finale, Dorohedoro S2, Patlabor EZY and the new Ghost in the Shell) because I can't really muster the same degree of excitement for things I don't really know about. For instance, I'm excited for the new Bones x Hiromu Arakawa anime because of their pedigree, but I'm not as excited about it in comparison to the others I've mentioned above because of the lack of emotional attachment to that specific work, but when you put my favorite active character designer on a show then it's a buff that can easily overcome the barrier of "I don't even know much about what kind of show it will be"
Why didn't I know about it that much sooner?

**Fall 2025 Roundup**
**1. My Hero Academia Final (10/10)**
Unexpected AOTS for me. I’m shocked it stuck the landing so well. Thematically resonant, did everything it needed to do to send this series off on a high note. Will recommend long into the future, along with the best of battle shonen series in its genre. This is the only My Hero season I have given a 10, and I think it earned it.
**2. Spy X Family S3 (8/10)**
Almost put this one with the other 7’s, which I consider a good score too, but the highs with Loid’s background pushed it up a notch. It drags a little with the Anya bits, but I think it balances out overall and is on par with the first two seasons. Good solid show.
**3. Gachiakuta, Tougen Anki, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26, Sanda (7/10)**
These were all pretty good, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but entertaining nonetheless.
**4. Wandance, Disney Twisted Wonderland: Heartslabyul, Koala’s Diary (6/10)**
I liked these shows, but they had some issues. Wandance had probably the cutest couple of the season, but it’s hard not to get taken out of the show with the switch up between CG models dancing and more traditional animation. And it felt like a test show for gauging how much CG Models an audience can tolerate in a run time. Disney show looked amazingly colorful and knew the assignment, but it’s still rudimentary magic school story setting with nothing inventive going on to stand out. Koala was a chill short that exists for the seasonal vibes.
**5. This Monster Wants to Eat Me, Shabake**
These two had poor pacing, mediocre execution, passable/limited animation, and were ultimately the two shows I would not recommend out of everything I watched. Monster could have easily been half the run time, Shabake did a lot of meandering, and both stories were lackluster by the end. I did really like Miko in Monster and the music/sound design was excellent in that show. Shabake’s historical setting/time period clashed with those very modern piano elements and it seemed like a missed opportunity to use something more period focused to match the aesthetic.
Overall, I didn’t pick up much this season, but enjoyed most things I did.
[](#sadholo)
I do wish WataTabe was better than how it ended up. And too bad about Shabake as well, but I did heed your advice to not pick it up.
Yeah, this was a case of misinformation/misinterpretations with initial manga leaks and people exploiting it to spread hate for the agenda. Some of those people didn't even read the series or the official chapter once it was translated and just spread misinformation. The anime fleshed some scenes out more in the last episode, but the core of it was exactly the same. lol
It's not completely over yet either as there's at least still the special episode released in May 2026 of an extra chapter that came out a bit later, which is nice to get a bit more content for the ending.
Including the special episode, it's 4 episodes of aftermath and epilogue, which is a whole third of a 1 cour season. And another episode that will take place post-timeskip to see just a bit more with them as adults. So stuff like this makes me appreciate MHA more.
[](#notlewd)
such is the unfortunate reality
[](#kaguyasigh)
I once came across a few highlights from an obscure OVA-series named [Eiken](https://myanimelist.net/anime/788/Eiken__Eikenbu_yori_Ai_wo_Komete). Some of breasts in this show are so outrageously large that they’d send the girls straight to the hospital with severe spinal-related injuries. In fact, these breasts are probably massive enough to have their own orbit.
This season is already looking like a step up even excluding the fuckload of sequels we are getting. So these are my notes and remember I only read synopsis for a select few, so some may have factually wrong stuff cause I can't just read 60 entries.
* 29 year old adventurer - Another fantasy show with an 'old' man but here he seems to adopt a daughteru that accompany him on his adventures. Seems to be a bit more SoLish.
* Oshi no Ko S3 - Oh hey, this PV has a lot of that one background character that stands next to Kana and Memcho.
* Villainess Is Adored by the Prince - Wow, that was one of the most generic villainess anime PV I have seen. Still probs will be more tolerable than most isekai. Also like half the PV was shots of dudes burying themselves on the MC's hair.
* The Case Book of Arne - So like some NEET girl or something is obssessed with vampires or something. The girl was fun so I looked up the synopsis, a *vampire detective* show. Despite the tone of the PV, the anime has no comedy tag, and surprisingly a josei? I will be wary.
* Champignon Witch - A witch that is surrounded by weird mushroom creatures and she encouters some hot studs. Very shoujo-core. Someone made an off-handed comment about BL.
* Dark Moon - This kpop fan told me its like some crossover with a real band except here they are vampires or something.
* The Darwin Incident - The design for that monkey guy is absolutely terrifying, I hate looking at it.
* The Holy Grail of Eris - Uhhh, villainess and uhhh, yuri?
* Fate Strange/Fake - A full season of S/F, about time, maybe I should catch up.
* Goumon Baito-kun - This seems like a budget Buddy Daddies, some sort of assassins taking care of a child. These male cast SoL always seem to be absolutely boring so I'm wary.
* Hana-Kimi - Reverse harem of a girl infiltrating a boys school. Everyone seems to love the MC's boy persona for some reason. I want this to be a Mulan situation where these gay dudes will be disappointed that they were in love with a chick.
* High School! Kimengumi - A remake of some comedy of the 80s. Just like UY and Ranma, you can just feel the age of the humor displayed. However, its considerably less appealing than those.
* Journal with Witch - Seems like a very slow drama, had to read the synopsis for this and huh, its intriguing.
* Isekai Office Worker - The only reason this stood out is by pure virtue of being a BL or yaoi, I forgot the difference. Outside of that nothing of note.
* Budget Demi-chan - Its budget demi-chan. A human teacher teaches these demi-human girls with the worst designs I have ever seen. Also someone told me the source is written by a Nijisanji vtuber???
* Kaya-chan - reminds me a bit of Dark Gathering, seems to be about a little girl than can see ghosts and spirits.
* Laundry Girl - This hot girl does laundry. Big stuff.
* Kunon - Fantasy show of a blind guy. Its such a strange concept ngl. I'm not sure I can take this seriously if isn't by a blind person lmao.
* Mayonaka Heart - Aw damn it, my hot girl band anime turned out to be harem slop nooooooooo.
* Gentle Noble - Another fantasy male cast hot guys show.
* Childhood friends - Harem that has broken the mold by having not one, but two girls being the childhood friend! And it looks just like the most generic harem ytou have ever seen!
* Polar Opposites - This is literally Kawashida and Oota but the genders reversed and the girl is more gyaru-esque on top of being loud. Looks cute.
* Dragon isekai - The MC looks like a fucking Digimon.
* Invisible Guy - Remember the Ice guy? This is basically the same. Some sort of fantasy romcom workplace anime with an invisible guy and a demi-human girl. At least the girl looks infinitely more interesting than that cardboard girl in ice guy.
* Clear Moonlit Dusk - Shoujo of the cool girl at school falling in love with the hot guy at school. Apparently this is like one of THE shoujo rn but this felt just like any other shoujo. I guess the visuals looked better than the rest.
* Shiboyugi - Some maid girls are trapped in some sort of death game or something. Not a fan of the aesthetic.
* Sentenced to Be a Hero - Fantasy show where adventurers are more like Suicide Squad-esque parties.
* Cute girl confession isekai - Isekai where the MC confesses from the get go and now its a cute romcom Ig. Why is it an isekai.
* Demon King's Daughter - Demon king's assisstant has to babysit cute daughteru. It has Torture Princess daughteru vibes.
* Prism Rondo - Historical romance of this japanese girl going to victorian London. It is a Netflix show and dunno how to explain, it just *feels* like a Netflix show.
* Tamon's B-Side - This girl who is a big fan of a male idol meets him IRL at his home and turns out he is a male-Bocchi. A completely loser that is scared of everything. So the girl has to take care of him while still supporting him as a fan. Looks kinda fun.
Right? It's fucking glorious. I get everything from villainess slop to award winning drama josei. Nature is healing.
> Champignon Witch - A witch that is surrounded by weird mushroom creatures and she encouters some hot studs. Very shoujo-core. Someone made an off-handed comment about BL.
It's a testament to Typhoon Graphics that nobody seems to have any idea what this story is about after watching the trailer. If I wasn't up to date on the manga, I wouldn't know either.
> BL or yaoi, I forgot the difference
There isn't one. BL is yaoi, and yaoi is BL. The only difference is that BL is the more official term. Yaoi is kinda like smut, in that it's a put-down used affectionately between fans.
> The only difference is that BL is the more official term. Yaoi is kinda like smut, in that it's a put-down used affectionately between fans.
Naruhodo
This is it, yeah.
Not like I can't have fun with a harem but err, let's say the MCs are always the weak part in a harem for me.
[](#frustration)
[](#mugiwait)
First 10 seconds or so talk about the difficulty and messiness of beheading someone with a sword.
SIGH I guess I can't escape the beheadings no matter what.
Okay, the golf club gag is frying me. These are true comedy writers. Can we get these guys on The Naked Gun 2? These are top tier gags they're pulling. The scene where the guy does his flashback is fucking hilarious.
Where did this idea start that *One Piece* "Season 1" is ending?
I know that in [this tweet](https://x.com/ToeiAnimation/status/1983160636679786887) Toei announced that
>Beginning in 2026, the anime series will also kick-off its new production schedule, dividing into two parts for a maximum of 26 episodes per year
However (and maybe this will change once the episode actually airs), I've never *actually* seen confirmation that any "season" is ending. The tweet says that the show is going on break for three months before the new arc, but it doesn't act like this will be an at all different show or entry from everything that came before it. Neither MAL or AniList have created entries for any new "season" either starting in the Spring 2026 season.
It *seems* like a giant game of telephone that has spiraled into people now making memes and reporting it as fact. Most outlets such as [CR](https://www.crunchyroll.com/news/latest/2025/10/28/one-piece-anime-new-broadcast-schedule-2026) and [ANN](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2025-10-28/one-piece-anime-reduces-annual-production-schedule-to-26-episodes-starting-in-april-2026-following-/.230401) have reported it as a "change/reduction in annual broadcast schedule" and the break as a "hiatus". The closest I can get is [some less reputable sites](https://en.as.com/meristation/news/one-piece-will-take-a-three-month-hiatus-and-when-it-returns-there-will-be-a-revolution-in-the-series-f202510-n/) reporting it as adopting a "seasonal" (in quotes) schedule or a "[more seasonal format](https://www.gamesradar.com/entertainment/anime-shows/one-piece-is-slowing-down-early-2026-anime-hiatus-will-lead-to-a-new-schedule-with-a-maximum-of-26-episodes-a-year-to-better-match-the-pacing-of-eiichiro-odas-manga/)", before we get to the lowest outlets that just regurgitate it as "[One Piece Season 1 is Ending](https://www.thegamer.com/one-piece-weekly-episodes-ending-december-28/)". Hell, Collider even reported that "[One Piece Season 21 is ending](https://collider.com/one-piece-anime-manga-egghead-arc-finale-date-2026-hiatus/)" which seems more accurate (using what I presume to be English release batches as "seasons").
Now maybe the whole thing is one big meme that just completely went over my head, but I have seen people seem to get legitimately upset or act like this is some legitimate end of the series. It's driving me mad because when I lay out everything I listed above they still insist that "*One Piece* Season 1 is ending" and that I'm just stupid (or some more colorful language).
Is this just my autism reading into things way too literally?
So like... someone please solve this mystery for me. Am I just missing something or am I just being gaslit here. Cause as far as I'm aware, what constitutes an official "season" at the end of the day is determined by the executives and production committee, and it doesn't sound like anyone above is posturing to have the new batches of episodes be counted as anything other than the same *One Piece* that's been airing since 1999.
Black Clover OTOH seems to be going there, and I've seen the marketing use "Season 2", though that might be a translation mishap... It isn't anything new either, Fairy Tail was split into long parts that now constitute different entries on MAL, each longer than the typical season.
If anything, it would be more of what *Bleach* did, if you removed the decade long break. It would be less "*One Piece* S2" and more "*One Piece:* \[insert arc title here\] *Arc*" though the difference requires getting into a very pedantic discussion that most people probably don't care for.
We'll finally know what people have to say about the manga!

It really wasn't much of an issue for S2 tbh.
And yes, the manga is MUCH less thirsty. The worst we got was Miko having a bath with her younger brother (no, not like *that*) and Hana being Hana, but that was all quite innocent.
