This show was fun for what it was. It’s just a shame the harem only appears when it’s plot convenient or if they wanna flash some titties. It’s just harem bait with no real harem. Satou should have done the ol bone dance with all the girls! lol
Satou has a lot of duties to fulfill as Ring King, be it to the nations he's now king of or to the Ring Princess' he still hasn't taken to bed over Hime. I guess at least he included them in the Earth honeymoon, though I'm not sure if that will actually help develop their relationships at all.

And how Satou was tapped out at the end, but all his wives were there?
I was half expecting an orgy to break out as a way of generating enough power to hold the abyss at bay XD
I mean, in the first episode, a single kiss from Krystal gave Satou the power to kill his first few monsters, yeah?
Heck, a honeymoon period even managed to foil a political assassination lol.
But it still didn't feel right. We still didn't get Satou bonding with Amber properly, nor did it feel entirely right from Amber's side. She wants to save the world and make a bunch of dwarven babies, yes, but that still doesn't feel *personal* enough.
"I will use you to save the world and restore my people." Is different from "It has to be you" or even "I can't imagine this being anyone else but you" You know?
And Saphir... was just kinda... there... until the end. She has this low-key tsundere vibe that she never pushed past into a real bond. It just felt like she was holding back, and Satou even said he's not physically attracted to her petite frame!
So when did they grow closer? Did I miss something?
If anything, it just felt like "Saphir's stuff" was largely taken over by Saphira and Marse. Which wasn't entirely bad, just a missed opportunity. For a bit it felt like Saphir was growing jealous of her little sister 'surpassing' Saphir in love, she even got pregnant and their father was shedding tears of joy! That should have been a mini-arc that pushed Saphir closer to Satou as she finally overcame her pride enough to be honest with him.
I did like how some of the friendships started to develop. Mostly it was Nef and Granyat forming a wholesome jock/nerd bond, and to a lesser extent Nef and Krystal became friends.
But once again... Saphir and Amber really needed more bonding.
Also, we never got confirmation that Satou has "fulfilled his duties" as a husband to the others! All in all, the ending kinda felt rushed.
I thought that story would continue that way after they revealed ancient Abyss, but I guess not.
Still, even with all that, I heavily enjoyed this show, and I'll most likely continue the story via manga, unless they announce season 3.
10/10. Loveable Peak.

And will Satou gain enough confidence/maturity to be able to return back and not get assassinated again? Will he at least graduate from high school?
As a fantasy action romance series, it's alright; for that aspect, I thought it was enjoyable. With that said, it's not without its issues. The biggest issue I had with this harem anime was the harem aspect itself, specifically with the way Haruto treated the girls other than Krystal(Hime). Haruto only cared about being with Krystal (Hime), while treating the other girls like mandatory tag-alongs that were only around solely out of obligation, rather than him wanting them to be by his side. In isolation, the romance between Haruto and Krystal was fine, but as a harem, I would've like it if he showed more love towards all of his wives, and not prioritize his affection only to Krystal, while the other girls have to settle with being the second set of fiddles.
If you're coming in expecting all of the girls to get an equal amount of affection from the MC, you won't be satisfied.
It did feel like the show kind of justified and reinforced Haruto and Hime's selfish desire for each other in the end, even if their love for each other was pure, in its own away. Like Hime was suddenly only better and more willing to accept the Harem after Haruto banged her and made it clear she was #1 after she basically threw a hissy fit over the Harem.
But I'm happy that it took all the girls together to stop the Abyss once and for all rather than it just being Hime again. And as a romantic, I do support how far Haruto and Hime's relationship progressed this season.
This has been my main problem with the show.
From the very beginning, it's established that intimacy = power. He needs to bring the world together to fight this existential threat through 'bonds.' Not just the bonds between nations, but the bonds between himself and his wives.
He's outright told, and experiences, that physical intimacy = power when Hime's first kiss gave him the strenght to fight his first set of monsters. He even gets kisses from her throughout the first season as mini power ups.
But... then he keeps collecting wives only to largely neglect them. They give him elemental upgrades, sure, but that's about the extent of it. He's supposed to be forging bonds with them (emotional AND physical), but he's largely just picking up equipment.
Even outside of romantic or physical bonds, he still feels like he's keeping them at an emotional distance. Amber was the worst in being largely taken for granted, as Satou didn't even feel like he was trying to become friends with most of them.
Worse, he challenges the Abyss King at the end of S1 and got slapped back. The whole series he's told, and experiences, "intimacy = power." He then has his mettle tested and is found wanting. The obvious answer is to stop ignoring his wives and "do his duty."
Even setting aside the "SAVING THE WORLD" aspect, he's MARRIED to these women and has a sacred responsibility to 'take care' of them. That's not just the physical aspect, but the emotional as well.
And he completely ignores the first while barely going through the motions of the second.
Even using the excuse of "focusing on Krystal," how many times did that goal post get moved and excuses made? Krystal has to have a meltdown and fall to the Darkness before Satou will accept her. And yet here we are, end of the series, and he's still neglecting everyone but Krystal.
There is even a plot point where Krystal 'accepts' her sister wives leading to a massive power upgrade for Satou, and... nothing changes. Worse, this plot point is immediately contradicted when Krystal goes dark, in no small part because of her fear of losing Satou to one of the others.
So did she accept the harem or not?
And when did Satou finally accept the others, besides Hime? Did I miss him fully accepting the love of the others, and being comfortable loving them in turn? Of grappling with his feelings of 'cheating' on Hime, of being selfish/greedy, of taking advantage of them?
The most we got from this angle, was Satou's fear of becoming like the former Ring King. However, it was impossible for me to take this seriously as Staou hadn't even jumped Hime yet. So how are we supposed to believe he would turn into a cruel lust monster when he's been an innocent cherry boy that rejects the harem over monogamy with his One True Love. And to such an extent that it's absurd. The fate of the world rested on him 'deepening his bonds' with these women, but he still refused!
Sleeping with all of them wouldn't even be some 'excuse' he was exploiting. They all knew their duties and were prepared... even DTF to a desperate extent for a few. Granart in particular was suffering from a jammed clam when she's first introduced, even referring to herself as an 'old maid' by her people's custom. She couldn't find a husband and was even willing to bend her traditions as an excuse to smash with Satou.
Worse, for Satou, is that he went out of his way to win her hand properly, gaining her love and respect in the process, only to set her aside afterwards. In other words, he went out of his way to lead her own only to shut her down.
And considering that the FATE OF THE WORLD rested on him 'getting close' with Granart, it was not only cruel but stupid as well.
This entire show feels like it's been at war with it's own premise the entire time.
Granart is great, but Nefritis is an underrated MVP, Saphir brings a nice dynamic to the Harem, and Amber really grew this season.
I also can't pick just one, I do support Hime as #1 though.
Actually extending from this and contrary to a lot of other final opinions of the show I'm seeing I actually like that all the girls are on different levels of involvement with Haruto. Sure it's nice to see a harem where all the love interests are "loved equally", but at the same time I often feel like that flattens their personalities by the end. It's too MC centric.
Some might say this instead is just being wishy washy, but I'd counter that whatever road is picked is not middling if you commit to it, which this story did.
But I have to dock points from Satou calling her petite frame 'juvenile' to the point he can't feel sexual interest in her.
She, quite understandably, got upset with Satou over this, but did I miss where the issue ever got truly resolved? Like, it's hard to be married to someone and have a healthy relationship when your partner isn't sexually attracted to you.
More than any other Ring Princess, Saphir felt the most neglected by both the story and Satou. She was just kinda... there.
She was content, and mature enough, to take things at a pace that worked for both her and her partner. I appreciate that.
I just don't appreciate how she (and the others) never got their proper development.
So when I docked points, it was from Satou and the narrative as a whole.
I'll check out manga for that.
Not on Hime's watch! She's not going to give up on Satou and she's going to believe in their love and put herself out there for Satou's sake, just like he did for her! The original Ring King had his Princess' bodies, but not their heart (save for the original Light Princess), but now Haruto has Hime who will go to any length for him.
I love how we got naked Hime saving naked Satou from the brink...because obviously they would be naked.
I also love this bold Hime! Trying to face the Abyss King herself! But together with her staff and Haruto's sword, they finally manage to defeat him! And in death, the Abyss King is read his last rites by his other self in the ring and gets to see the only Ring Princess who was loyal to him to the bitter end before he fades away...farewell, Abyss King.
Is there any better way to celebrate a victory than by nuzzling into Hime's boobs or receiving a lap pillow?
But the battle isn't over quite yet...not when the TRUE ABYSS is encroaching onto the world. The only chance left is for ALL the Princess' to channel their power into Satou so he can blast it away with a big ball of light. FINALLY IT'S OVER!
Having a Harem of wives means waking up to them all naked and snuggling up to your body to help you recover. To the bitter end, Satou is a lucky man.
Everyones' all dressed up in their finest outfits (even if Amber is just in a poncho and Saphir is just covering up her barely there cleavage) to celebrate back in Nokanatika! The audience even demands Haruto kiss their princess right in front of them!
All's well that ends well! Jade still can't get Nefritis to come home with him, Peridot gets to bask in the fact that sex DID solve all their problems (even if Krystal won't kiss and tell), Amber gets to display being the pride and joy of the Dwarves, Granart gets teased about her relationship and sex life with Satou by her parents, and Saphir's dad is glad her cynicism didn't ruin everything. Alabaster even gets to reconnect with the Emperor and get Smaragadi to pump him full of enough food to get him hard enough for what she intends for that night. Marse is also living his best life.
But Satou being the Ring King means he's also the king of five different nations...which is a LOT for one guy who didn't even finish high school in Japan. Especially when the Emperor, traitorous piece of @#$% that he is, tries to assassinate him...but too bad! Satou and the princess' are honeymooning on Earth.
Well, it's nice to see everyone happy and content to be on Earth with Satou, and even Alabaster and Morion join in! Satou may be living in domestic bliss with his Harem, but he also fully intends to learn how to be the king the fantasy world needs him to be! And we even get one last HarutoxHime kiss for the road!
In fact, I think it will get one. Mostly because it got a season 2, which I don't think many people thought it would get. So, yeah.
I really think author had so much to cook with, He did set up story perfectly.
I wonder if he got burned out, manga was not as successful to go that deep into plot development, or he simply always planned for it to go this way.
I get the same feeling like I did with SAO season 1. :(
Unless we get a few OVAs?
SHAME, real shame it was kinda rushed in the end, since this was one of those random smaller shows that I really loved and enjoyed.
Kind of wild that the Empire was immediately moving to assassinate Satou, better off just leaving that world to its own devices IMO.
Even when they succeeded the Emperor didn't seem completely satisfied, but I guess that's because he wouldn't be fully content until Satou was taken out like the Abyss was. But it was nice to see Satou pull one over on him with a honeymoon of all things lol.
Hell yeah brother. Yes, it's by far the weirdest possible relationship because of Hime, but it's author fault for making her so likeable.
But seriously, loved her character. I do hope she get some kind of place next to Satou, Hime and Harem.
[Girlfriend Girlfriend clearly changed ending] >!Girlfriend Girlfriend finally had girlfriend one admit she's Bi and ask the other girls to date her to and it stopped mid scene with no answer had author quit claiming burn out finish up last girl poorly and end with no sex stated occurring despite sex starting was promised as soon as all the girls accepted the polygamy which they did. !<
Maybe they can spread it enough, and add original ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) content to it to fill the gaps?
Either way, strange decision, and it makes me sad since I love this show.
Still, enjoyed it a lot, even if it was rushed.
What a beautiful ending after all those adventures for Satou and his girls.
OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's! OVA's!
Liked it but too bad it was clearly shortened. If they knew they ending as soon as it did author had plenty of space to do the intimacy with each girl and a combined intimacy scene or three just by cutting out the trapped over issue arc and make the reluctance to do them all not last as long as it did.
Keep Season 1 the same, they get their butts kicked not only take the "L" but have to retreat to Earth. Start right off the bat at S2.
Change 1: What happens on Earth
During that time instead of just having a vacation on Earth some of the wives probably Saphir I think as a practical one recognizes that what they have been doing isn't working clearly.
(Seriously if Hime's Sister never showed up and was like.....hey lets learn magic together..... what was their plan? Like literally nothing it seems. I guess we just live here now?)
A discussion amongst the wives would be had about about what worked for the OG Ring King to fight the Abyss and how Satou isn't that kind of man to just use them like that. Have each of the wives give a little speech or a few lines about how they've gotten to know Saitou over the past however long they've been together from their own perspective and recognize that he needs more power. All the wives need to talk it out to mentally prepare to sleep with Satou and what that means for each of them individually. Have say.. Nephretis say that she recognizes Hime as head wife because without her Sitou wouldn't even be there but that her feelings are no less valid than Hime's with the rest following suit. Hime would have to realize that she has competition (which she is clearly afraid of) and they respect her as head wife AND THIS IS TO SAVE THEIR ENTIRE FREAKING WORLD!
To me, This would narratively set the stage for the library arc.
You can still have Morion show up out of nowhere to teach them magic and get them back to their world.
Keep it the same for why they go there but once stuck in the library the tone changes drastically. Have one of the wives like Amber or Garnet make a move on Saitou (or just make out) and have them be seen by Hime. From their perspective Hime has been with Satou are together the longest and have probably long since bonded/done the deed with with Satou and they are letting their feelings be known. Hime needs to recognize that just because she isn't making any moves (and the other wives don't know) on Saitou that other wives are under no such obligation and maybe they also are doing this to protect the rest of the world too!
AKA: Hime get over it, what are you waiting for? The other wives are trying to be respectful of you but you aren't doing anything and there is a ticking clock here.
Now is when they can still have their pajama party and really hash this shit. Each wife re-affirms that they do love Satou in their own way and that Hime needs to make her move because while they recognize that she was first that doesn't mean that she's the only. They each have feelings to and just because Hime was first doesn't' make their status / feelings any less valid than hers. Have each wife recognize that they have fallen in love with Satou and recognize that Satou needs power, realize that he's not a bad guy and they would never abandon/kill him or each other like the OG wives did to the first Ring King. Morion can even chime in saying that if Hime doesn't make her move soon that she just might.
Have the wives discuss the order that they get together each of them get with Satou to do a confession / night of passion with Hime going first since they all recognize that the only reason that Satou is there is because of the Light Princess.
Then that allows them to get out of the library. Bonds are deepened amongst the wives since each other knows where each of them stands now.
They still take off to learn magic and split up as normal.
Change 3: The Spire events
Hime can still freak out later because deep down she loves Satou and wants him for herself only and is secretly scared that the other wives may still turn on Satou due to the OG light princess influence (can't trust them, history will repeat itself, you're the only one he can really love/trust, etc.) Turning her against the other wives due to the fear/selfishness in her heart.
At the spire with Dark Hime illusiary world. You could have Satou lay it all on the line with Hime being like... look. I came here because I love you but along the way I've come to care deeply for all of them which I didn't expect. The others are not less than but I came here FOR YOU HIME. I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for you. Say that they all need to move forward together and that he believes in her. They could still do the deed and come out to defeat the monster and have their 9 times moment.
The rest of the episodes could play out mostly the same even.
Thank you for reading my headcannon rewrite to make it more palatable for myself.. I very much did enjoy this series if this is really the end and the OP songs are really bangers.
Still a fun series. I can't be too hard on polygamous LotR.
Hope we get season 3.
