2022 got gems like
Bocchi the rock
Chainsaw man
The glorious return of bleach
To your eternity
86
Odd taxi
Vivi
Megalo box
Etc
But yes, its fascinating seeing how far it came, at the same time also, alot of junk food anime that will never have a sequel is being released, in the old days you felt a Anime was a "investiment", they went all in with a show planning at least to be long, except shorter shows like Death Note for example, that came out... 2006 i think? 2006 is a very big year. The big 3 were going strong, shows like Gintama debuted, Code Geass, Fate etc alot of these now are classics. 2026 is indeed a year that will have future classics like Frieren, but they are sequels, i think they arent that many originals, but im 100% sure thst Witch Hat Atelier will become also a classic.

There are more releases by the end of the first week of the winter season. The volume being produced today is insane compared to 30 years ago.
2007 had
1.lucky star
2. Baccano
3. Shippunden
4. Code geass
5. Gurren lagan
6. Clannad
7. Death note
8. Kaiji
9. School days
10. Darker than black
2011 had
1. Steins gate
2. Hxh
3. Madoka magica
4. Fate zero
5. Anohana
6. Nichijou
7. Guilty crown
8. Chiyyafuru
9. Mirai nikki
10.usagi drop
Almost all of these were new shows, no sequels
Although after 2011
2019 and 2022 have also been absolute peak
something like that could as well happen with the recently adapted anime
EDIT: 2011 also had K-On! S2 and Disappearance of Haruhi, I think.
1998:
1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Serial Experiment Lain
3. Trigun
4. Cardcaptor Sakura
5. KareKano
6. Outlaw Star
7. Perfect Blue
8. YKK
9. Kite
Plus a few other entries of note. Less than you would expect of today, but for the 90s this is insane. And most of this list is still highly regarded almost three decades later.
2013:
1. Kyousougiga
2. Uchouten Kazoku
3. Monogatari Second Season
4. White Album 2
5. Tamako Market
6. Attack on Titan
7. Kill La Kill
8. SNAFU
9. Nagi no Asu
10. Hansaka Iroha
9. Devil is a Part Timer
10. Non non Biori
13. Log Horizon
14. Magi
15. Silver spoon
16. Golden Time
Sequels: Chihayafuru, Ippo, Kingdom, Kuroko, Railgun, Symphogear
Films: Princess Kaguya, Wind Rises, Madoka Rebellion, Little Witch Academia, Gintama, Kara no Kyoukai, Garden of Words, Paterma Inverted
Such an insane year. Especially if you agree with me that those first five are among the best works to come out of the decade.
I watched a grand total of 0 of them at the time but discovered them all years later.
In hindsight, the fact that all 3 of Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star and Trigun came out in the same year is also crazy considering how much they are compared with each other.
I watched like 3 shows for the entire year, plus orb that carried over from 2024
Meanwhile 2024 i feel had way more shows i was anticipating weekly
Only 2023 had a similar buzz to this. That was the most recent banger year for anime
- Witch Hat Atelier
- The Darwin Incident
- Journal with Witch
- Tamon's B-Side
- Bean Counter
- Love Through a Prism
- Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms
- Daemons of the Shadow Realm
- Magical Sisters Lulottolily
- Marriagetoxin
- Scenes from Awajima
- Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia
- Even a Replica Can Fall in Love
- Ghost Concert
- Go for It, Nakamura-kun!!
- Kaiju Girl Caramelise
Wonder what new series coming out of 2026 will leave their mark. I have hopes for Ikoku Nikki and Awajima Hyakkei.
edit: I meant 2025 lol
Jk, I know you mean 2025. But trust me, there are people who are perfectly happy with the MHA, Gachiakuta, SxF, Punchy Villainess, horses, and a few others they got.
Sticking to just new works:
*Fate/strange Fake* is looking real promising with a very stacked line-up of names attached to it. *Jaadugar*'s got Naoko Yamada attached to it, and her former employer KyoAni's got *Sparks of Tomorrow* coming out as well, both of which are almost guaranteed to be AOTY contenders. SARU's also got *Ghost in the Shell* coming out which is looking promising. Other titles like *Journal with Witch, Champignon Witch,* and *Goodbye Lara* have my attention has more solid mid-tier options to flesh out the list.
On the film front things look even more nuts. Colorido's got a new project coming out with *Cosmic Princess Kaguya*, 4ºC's got *All You Need is Kill*, and A-1's got *The Camphorwood Custodian*. *A New Dawn* looks like a really promising arthouse film and *We Are Aliens* could also pop off if it maintains the vibes I got off the teaser trailer.
I'm definitely missing a few entries and more or bound to come, but those are just the ones on the top of my head, and that's about 10 or so potential 8-9/10s just off what we know from the early announcements. Throw in some promising sequels like *Trigun Stargaze* and potentially that *Skip and Loafer* second season and you've got the recipe for a pretty exciting next 12 months.
As far as sequels go, we'll also get Madoka 4 (allegedly), which I hope will turn out good even with all the delays and production troubles.

The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi, Code Geass, Gintama, Death Note, Nana, Black Lagoon, Welcome to the NHK, Pretty Cure all in that one year. But the best of them all was the movie Paprika by the late Kon Satoshi.
2006 was the year that really started the Fate franchise with FSN. There was Higurashi that revitalized the psychological horror genre. Boku no Pico that triggered the internet for decades to come. Zero no Tsukaima that invented the isekai genre as we know it.
And a whole bunch of other great anime that just got overshadowed, like Asatte no Houkou and Busou Renkin.
now all the studios wanna be on the "OP from the start, same storyline isekai" wagon and not get off, so its entirely up to continuations to carry whole seasons
the roles have reversed, where now its hard to find good new anime, and the ones that are considered "good" are gonna be some copy/paste slop that only gets its hype from TikTok edits
jobless 3

Ofc there’s others im looking forward to as well like Hells Paradise and stuff, but I wanted to list my most anticipated. And I can’t even imagine how many amazing shows will be discovered along the way!
Others that are not on this list are Mushoku Tensei and [Yuusha-kei ni Shosu: Choubatsu Yuusha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku(Sentenced to Be a Hero)](https://myanimelist.net/anime/56009/Yuusha-kei_ni_Shosu__Choubatsu_Yuusha_9004-tai_Keimu_Kiroku) which looks quite promising.
Im hoping to see great NEW stuff. To me a season is only good in spite of its returning shows, not because of it. That's a big reason why I thought this year for anime was pretty terrible. Hardly any great new shows came around this year for me
People are chasing the high of the first episode. It never ever gets as good as that high though.
But yeah lineup is probably the best since the days of dbz and haruhi
The Mongolian science saru show sure looks interesting though.
Not to mention, first time I watched two anime films in Theture (KNY, CSM) and idk there is no anime film that pulls me in Theture in 2026.
And(hot take) summer 2025 is the best anime season we get in 5, even 10 years!!
2025 was truly peak.
hey OP, blink twice if some intergalactic organization force you to put that anime in there
What I'm looking forward to most is:
●Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table
●Sentenced to Be a Hero
●The Darwin Incident
●Trigun Stargaze
Hell's paradise as well. Hope it turns out better than last season.
Witch Hat Atelier, Frieren, Goodbye Lara, Made in Abyss sequel movie and Jaadugar,
That seems like quite a few promising shows ahead.
Also feels like everyone in this thread forgot about Made in Abyss for some reason, but I guess depending on when the movie airs it might be 2027 before we can see it
