I like to pretend the anime and the story overall ended here.
JoelArt2025-12-28 03:02
What! There is more?
Haha just kidding but I haven't watched anything more than S1. Just hearing people being disappointed with S2 and S3.
Ponchorello72025-12-28 03:05
S2 was a massive drop-off in quality compared to S1, but had I known how bad the third season would be, I wouldn't have been so harsh on it. And it doesn't matter how good the animation is if they're adapting a bloated, mediocre arc.
Treguard2025-12-28 03:23
Demon Slayer and Solo Leveling made art out of the worst writing in Manga. OPM S2 and S3 had no excuse, it has enjoyable storytelling and a pretty compelling story
Ponchorello72025-12-28 03:37
Putting Demon Slayer on the same level as Dolo Leveling is devious.
GRANDMA_FISTER2025-12-28 03:53
Gotta agree though. I've never seen such a boring ass chewed out power fantasy for teens. I just let it run in the background and occasionally checked out the nice fight choreographies
Cuddlyaxe2025-12-28 03:40
I honestly liked Season 2 tbh, I'm not as much of an animation snob as others on here
Idk if im doing s3 at all though it sounds so bad
Ponchorello72025-12-28 03:59
I thought S2 was fine, but when you compare it to the first, it is jarring.
naitsebs2025-12-28 04:01
It wasn't just animation, the sound effects were terrible, especially the punches which sounded like punching sound effects from the 90's. Never rewatched Season 2 like I have Season 1.
LordDShadowy532025-12-28 03:09
At this point S2 was ok. Not magnificent, but ok.
seriousbusines2025-12-28 03:56
I found the whole "story" of Season 2 dumb. Even back during the comics it was dumb. The whole season is just a side quest to Saitama, a fleeting interest he has in martial arts. Whole thing only exists because his interest trumps him stepping in and doing literally anything.
JohnB4562025-12-28 04:15
isn't that kinda the point? His aluffness is like the entire point of one punch man. Like he's just a normal dude, bored out of his mind, and as a side note he can one punch anyone. Like he was more concerned about chilling and playing video games, wanting to beat King. Then dragon level threats or whatever popping up everywhere. He's just looking to have fun and be entertained and possibly challenged.
Like Saitama is living in an abandoned zone of a city, surrounded by monsters, and has no real clue or doesn't care. Hes the strongest, because he does push ups and jogs... Like he didn't even know you needed to register to be a hero.
The story at large is silly, but has cool fights, moments, and incredible art.
frezz2025-12-28 08:34
OPM is basically a comedy. Strange people still miss this
TiredofyourBSyo2025-12-28 14:07
it is, but the spectical of the fights shouldn't be ignored in the animation medium.
This scene is magnificent, sets a precedent to the overall series detriment. such a high standard will never be met again.
beckychao2025-12-28 05:05
I think you missed the point of the story! When King steals a pep talk from a manga he read to admonish Saitama, the story touches on the real tension of the plot. That is, Saitama is the strongest hero, but not the greatest. It's the reason he finds Mumen Rider so compelling, and why their short interactions are so cool. Mumen lacks power, yet in his bones he is a hero.
King tells Saitama that he's barely scratched the surface of what it means to be a hero. What has he even done? How many people has he saved? His worry about his need to teethe his powers against someone worthy has blinded him to the fact that he lacks the purpose to utilize his power to its potential. The fact that he has infinite power is meaningless - he has only barely grown from the dead fish-eyed man who decided to become a hero. And Saitama agrees with him!
SerJoseph2025-12-28 07:30
That is literally the whole point, which seemed to go over your head. The fights are only good because saitama is not there from the beginning and there is time to set up the characters and villians, and the overarching plot is quite good specifically because he is not there. "Where is Saitama" shonenheads insert themselves on every discussion and just lower the credibility of the fandom as a whole
naitsebs2025-12-28 03:59
Season 2 is "ok" only bc Season 3 is hot garbage. I rewatched Season 1 countless times. Only saw Season 2 once. Underwhelming af. Season 1 is goated and could act as as standalone limited series.
OriginCycle2025-12-28 04:50
No, Season 2 was okay, it was just being compared to the titan that was the OPM made by Madhouse. The music was a banger, and there were some good fight scenes as well, but honestly I think what really soured it in many people's eyes was the strange decision to color everyone with a gradient.
naitsebs2025-12-28 07:33
Garou's theme is the only original banger from Season 2, I can't think of any others. Season 1 is full of non MC-related bangers (Genos, Sonic, Justice Rider, just off the top of my head).
Fight scenes were "okay" in Season 2. [Garou vs Metal Bat was an underwhelming blurry mess](https://youtu.be/EDOhkaJ3Wu0?si=E7vOXrvCWC9XM9rd&t=221) (could only find dub in first few links). The punches alone just sound off, like how they made punches sound in 90s movies/games. Really took me out of it.
LeloThePGG2025-12-28 10:55
Personally, I found S2 to be quite bad in general, even without comparisons to S1.
S2 was bad to mediocre, in this order, as: (1) a manga adaptation, (2) an action anime and (3) a follow up to S1. Missing backgrounds, awful sound effects, ugly aesthetic overall, weird to disappointing choreography that made most hits feel weightless. Garou vs Metal Bat was awful both as an adaptation and as an action scene in general.
All of these things weren't just "okay but a downgrade compared to S1". They were just bad regardless.
sharkas992025-12-28 16:37
No it wasnt just bad in comparison. It was bad full stop. From animation, to pacing, to sound design, season 2 was awful. This is a cheap excuse.
Matt_Murcock672025-12-28 03:10
Season 2 wasn't even that bad though. The animation was a big downgrade but the story was better than Season 1. Season 3 is just utter and indisputable garbage
naitsebs2025-12-28 04:07
Unpopular opinion: One Punch Man after Season 1 is boring af. The best part about Season 1 was seeing all the side characters build up a huge enemy/plot only for Saitama to come and subvert all their plans in the most hilarious way. Season 2 and 3 has way less Saitama and tries to develop a half serious/half comical story, which doesn't land as well without Saitama.
Then again it could be the ridiculous drop in animation quality and sound effects that made me not rewatch Season 2 like I have Season 1.
Massive_Weiner2025-12-28 05:14
Not unpopular at all, that was the main gimmick of OP which can only feel fresh for so long before wearing out its welcome.
If you want a half serious/half comical story from ONE, then you want Mob Psycho 100 (which I think is just the better series in general).
naitsebs2025-12-28 07:17
Mob Psycho got an absolutely peak adaptation from seasons 1-3. Loved it.
myparentsareasingle2025-12-28 07:18
Mob Psycho is better than one punch man in every single way, period. Had way more fun watching Reigen and mob than Saitama and Genos.
MoisesCanelo2025-12-28 10:39
Maybe im simple but id watch 60 seasons of a fighting anime with the quality of OPM regardless of the plot
MetricAbsinthe2025-12-28 03:17
Charlie (penguin0/MoistKritical) definitely saved me since I was like "Damn, if he's making a whole ass 12 minute video just to shit on season 2, I should probably just wait and see if season 3 redeems anything first"
Omgninjas2025-12-28 04:22
Season 2 was good. Nothing crazy, but good.
beckychao2025-12-28 05:01
S2 is still worth watching, there are a few scenes that are too funny and/or heartwarming to miss it, and the animation is not offensive. It was a big downgrade, but to like regular anime standards, not to a powerpoint presentation.
GarthonSix2025-12-28 03:50
I mean, say what you want about the anime, but the manga continues to be very good.
lislejoyeuse2025-12-28 06:29
yes. amazing detail and pacing
ThatCreepyBaer2025-12-28 17:22
If you're talking about the illustrating, no one will be disagreeing with you there, outside of that though the manga has not so slowly gotten worse and worse over the last few years.
At least the webcomic still holds up when ONE decides to release a chapter.
bioeffect22025-12-28 03:58
Nah the manga is incredible. I would highly recommend it to those who are pissed off by the last two seasons.
_Pyxyty2025-12-28 04:55
Yep. One of the few manga I read and was actually able to enjoy despite my horrible imagination. Usually I find it difficult to imahine in my head how a fight plays out when I'm reading manga but OPM never gave me that struggle, and the art was just amazing
AnActualPlatypus2025-12-28 09:14
Massively disagreed, besides bits and bobs, I could not care about anything in the story post-Boros. I came to read "One Punch Man" not "My Less Interesting Hero Academia ft. One Punch Man (occasionally)"
draconk2025-12-28 12:08
the manga is not in a great place tbh, if you read as it comes out its a mess, the last arc has been rewritten 3 times now with random episodes being deleted to be redone, or whole arcs fully deleted
Magma_Dragoooon2025-12-28 15:23
Same since both animation and story went to shit afterwards anyway
CartographerRare41232025-12-28 02:45

OPM S1 was an insane anime for its time. As for OPM S3, it's an equally impressive power point presentation! Sometimes the pptx slides even have transitions!
fruitpunchsamuraiD2025-12-28 03:05
Way of the Househusband has better animation lol
Poked_salad2025-12-28 03:17
And that was done on purpose because of the creators' demand lmao
Edit: spelling
bobvella2025-12-28 04:23
were they mad at us?
Kiftiyur2025-12-28 20:18
Which was a shit decision. If they are going to just pretty much make colored manga panels move the months and eyes call it an anime and be done then there’s no reason to make an anime. Baffling choice.
_Pyxyty2025-12-28 04:52
Genuinely one of mu favorite anime series, ugh it's just so wholesome and nice the relationship that the main couple had
Plus_Percentage_80202025-12-28 08:27

You joke, but animators here in Japan are basically fighting for their lives earning barely enough to pay rent and sometimes getting ghosted.

I finished rewatching season 1 today, there’s not a snowballs chance in hell you can hold a candle to it with the third season. It’s like comparing 1998 Berserk to 2016 Berserk.

Shinkopeshon2025-12-28 03:45
It was the first anime I watched after a decade lol it was unavoidable
Now I'm not sure if I'll even bother with a fourth season smh
Electrical_Chance9912025-12-28 05:21
Honestly even if Season 3 was made by the same team that did season 1 and had the same level of animation, it would've not made an impact as big as S1. If anything quite a lot of ppl would've been annoyed by the lack of Saitama and main cast in general. This part of story was just not that engaging to me even in the manga.
APRengar2025-12-28 06:39
I still get annoyed at the argument "Saitaima HAD to be de-prioritized, how can you make a story about a guy who wins every fight in one punch entertaining? You'd get bored." As if Season 1 wasn't just that and it was fucking awesome. I'm not saying it's easy... but I reject the idea it's impossible. Even more multiple seasons.
frezz2025-12-28 08:36
It came out at a perfect time too. Power fantasy anime wasn't as popular as it is today, so to have one executed really well went viral.
Still can't believe this anime has been fumbled this hard. It's like having a winning lottery ticket and refusing to cash it
Pale_Researcher_88102025-12-28 23:05
Those Goku vs Saitama debates were crazy back in the day, it’s insane to see how much of a falloff this anime was.

shrek3onDVDandBluray2025-12-28 03:03
Can someone explain to me what are the politics to what studio gets what manga property? Like why didn’t Madhouse get it again for season 2? Did they just not want it? Why would such a popular anime because of the studio not want to do another season?
Octobre10j2025-12-28 03:09
It's not exactly that they didn't "get it", but season 1 involved a combination of Madhouse AND a batch of industry veteran freelancers. [It's pretty crazy.](https://screenrant.com/one-punch-man-season-3-bad-quality-explained/)
shrek3onDVDandBluray2025-12-28 03:32
Thank you for the reply!
coyoteazul22025-12-28 03:19
repeating what other redditor said, good studios are scheduled for years to come so they would have had to wait that long to get S3.
shrek3onDVDandBluray2025-12-28 03:32
Thank you for the reply!
Bern_Down_the_DNC2025-12-28 03:22
The people that worked on season 1 were already scheduled for other projects or something like that, so they had to find someone else to do 2 and 3. And in the case of season 3, Bandi Namco is 100% at fault for the outcome since they spent the bare minimum.
shrek3onDVDandBluray2025-12-28 03:32
Thank you for the reply!
KillJarke2025-12-28 03:06
Can anyone give an actual rundown on why the animation was so terrible in S3? Was it just another animation studio that took over and cut corners or something else?
overfiend19762025-12-28 03:17
A guy with no arms & no legs could count the frames on their fingers and toes.
imalllex2025-12-28 03:25
TotallyNotMark made a pretty [**comprehensive video**](https://youtu.be/bJ73yC3iUFU?si=WYNdKk3WPTBbAtf6) covering the season's production in collaboration with Kvin from Sakugablog/Sakugabooru. I'd recommend giving it a watch.
Although the tldr is the production committee dumped the show on the current director (as the original S3 director left at some point in preproduction) earlier this year, giving him and JC Staff impossibly tight deadlines, forcing them to cut a ton of corners just to get episodes out on time. With that said, that is not an uncommon occurrence in the anime industry. You can't really go a year without at least a couple of shows collapsing due to poor higher up interference. OPM is just the most recent and infamous example.
fenixspider12025-12-28 04:17
why not just delay the show. I mean this is a very hyped show and big name on top of that too, so no way pushing half baked episodes any better than delaying the show to let animators fully cook it.
MrShadowHero2025-12-28 04:35
because then how will the exec still be able to afford gas for their yacht. come on. think about everyone (just the execs) affected by a delay in income. /s
imalllex2025-12-28 04:43
It isn't really that simple. The studio and the director don't have a say in the matter unless the studio is high on the production committee ladder (For example, Mappa was the sole entity on Chainsaw Man's production committee and was able to set their own schedule for the first season). Their jobs are just to get the episodes out unless they're physically unable too like what happened with Wonder Egg Priority where they quite literally handed in an episode *late* to broadcast because they were busy finishing it, eventually leading to multiple unscheduled recap episodes/breaks. It wasn't a good look for anyone.
Edit: Referring back to Egg, they eventually were not able to finish the series on time, and there wasn't anymore agreed upon airtime (the unscheduled recap episodes took up what space they had) before the next season of shows would begin airing who had paid for those timeslots. This is partially why the show's final episode wouldn't air until months later almost randomly when broadcast could find a time to slot it in.
Schedules are schedules, and contracts are contracts. Going on a hiatus umprompted now puts the broadcasters in a tough spot where they now have to scramble and find something to air when they were originally promised months ago that this show was going to air on time. Then you have sponsors to deal with who agreed to fund production under the pretense that you release on time, commercial deals that paid to air alongside the programming, merch deals, etc. Also any freelancers on the staff can't stay forever before they're eventually called away to other paid projects. There are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes that need to be considered.
As far as the production committee goes, it's mostly just because they really don't care. It sucks, but it really is that simple. They know OPM gets eyes regardless, and they wanted it out *now.*
frezz2025-12-28 08:41
JC Staff deserve their share of the blame. They can just not accept a project. One thing I don't like is how they aren't taking any responsibility here.
Before anyone asks, I of course mean the leadership at JC Staff, not the production staff
Brave-Camp-9332025-12-28 04:38
I saw the video. Shingo Natsume saying that he wanted to do season 2 but couldn't is so heartbreaking. Please come back after making Ghost 😭
frezz2025-12-28 08:40
All we actually know is JC Staff had at most 6 months of production time, and so they had to rush it out, cutting tons of corners in the process. Everything else is speculation
Make your own opinions up on who's to blame..Bandai Namco for impossible tight deadlines, JC Staff for accepting that knowing they can't deliver good work, or both.
94Temimi2025-12-28 03:28
Season 1 was made by Madhouse, but it wasn't just a typical production, the director used his connections to bring together an insane team, that's the reason why it looked so good.
Seasons 2 and 3 were made by J.C.Staff which is a big downgrade in terms of studio's pedigree but still, IMO season 2 was really good and had some fantastic fight scenes. The fall from season 2 to season 3 was so much worse than the drop from first to second season and that starts with hiring a director that has no experience with action anime.
But the biggest problem is that the production schedule is so tight that an episode was still being worked on a couple of weeks before airing which was randomly [caught in a single frame from the episode](https://x.com/TanktopMagic44/status/1995586849474331073?s=20). You'll never make anything of quality when you're racing against time with no resources and someone with no experience in the genre leading the project on top.
MrShadowHero2025-12-28 04:41
jc staff does have good animation though. they've shown that time and time again. its definitely cheaper than madhouse which i'm sure is not only more expensive, but the quality loss shouldn't have been THAT much. this is just execs pushing the timeline way too fast and not letting the artists work, which is also crazy because bandai has plenty of huge series under them (stares at gundam) which get taken care of appropriately. they had a real opportunity here and fumbled hard.

This is the very first anime I have watched multiple years ago. Since then I rewatched it countless times. Every couple months I would get this sudden urge to rewatch it. Everything about it was just so good, the animation was so satisfying, an actual treat to the eyes. It’s truly a shame the following seasons dropped so much in quality, I still used to be fine with the second season and would often rewatch it as well, but man I feel so disappointed and let down.

Massive_Weiner2025-12-28 05:19
Such a good limited series! I’m glad that they knew to stop here before the appeal wore off.

How can you do this to me, inexorable march of time ._.
chronokingx2025-12-28 05:33
They should make a season 2
Advanced_Corgi_57852025-12-28 05:35
Thanks for refreshing my memory! I needed this!
Apasr2025-12-28 05:37
This whole season was something else
Fast_n_theSpurious2025-12-28 05:44
The art, the music, the story... The void it left in my heart kills me. Why does season 3 have to exist?
the__daydream2025-12-28 05:45
My God!!! This looks better than Mahoraga vs Sukuna.. WTF
leveque2025-12-28 05:49
I hope someday they make a season 2.
Nightshade-792025-12-28 05:49
I still remember only watching this way back when it first came out because it was spoken about in MangaPod
Controller_Maniac2025-12-28 05:57
I was rewatching season 2 the other day, and I wonder, why all the hate? this is pretty good! Although the drop in quality from s1 is noticeable, compared to other anime, it’s still able to stand as above average
Kue72025-12-28 06:03
You just have to be there 10 years ago lmao
ManufacturerWest11562025-12-28 06:18
Someone has got to remake season 2-3. Shit is depressing.
NotActuallyObese2025-12-28 06:23

Comfortable_Rough4122025-12-28 06:24
we lost for real
Vazhox2025-12-28 07:23
I miss this show. Should have ended at S1
KuroKaslana022025-12-28 09:00
Sadly no studios will ever be willing to animate this work anymore
fuck4r0und4ndf1nd0ut2025-12-28 09:30
Im crying man, what have they done to my man Saitama in S3
jus_plain_me2025-12-28 09:36
I still chuckle, when I think back when earlier in the season, someone tried to make this fight into a slideshow into the style of S3 and still couldn't because even the dust and particle effects had too much motion in them.
Immediate_Pop_30342025-12-28 12:04
Thank you for reminding again, what a piece of rubbish is season 3. And all the time we spend in its anticipation was wasted time.
AvocaRed2025-12-28 12:39
Who knew i was watching peak back in 2015, it never came close again.
Inevitable-Mud-27512025-12-28 14:16
That’s one hell of an anime :o
WeeklyVacation14132025-12-28 16:31
The good old days.

Such a beloved series ruined by a bad studio.
Ridikis2025-12-29 07:37
When this came out I was graduating high school full of hope and dreams and now I'm about to turn 30 watching Season 3 and sad

Haha just kidding but I haven't watched anything more than S1. Just hearing people being disappointed with S2 and S3.
Idk if im doing s3 at all though it sounds so bad
Like Saitama is living in an abandoned zone of a city, surrounded by monsters, and has no real clue or doesn't care. Hes the strongest, because he does push ups and jogs... Like he didn't even know you needed to register to be a hero.
The story at large is silly, but has cool fights, moments, and incredible art.
This scene is magnificent, sets a precedent to the overall series detriment. such a high standard will never be met again.
Then again it could be the ridiculous drop in animation quality and sound effects that made me not rewatch Season 2 like I have Season 1.
If you want a half serious/half comical story from ONE, then you want Mob Psycho 100 (which I think is just the better series in general).
At least the webcomic still holds up when ONE decides to release a chapter.
OPM S1 was an insane anime for its time. As for OPM S3, it's an equally impressive power point presentation! Sometimes the pptx slides even have transitions!
Edit: spelling
TEN YEARS AGO
In spanish dub.
Which i still like tbh
Now I'm not sure if I'll even bother with a fourth season smh
Still can't believe this anime has been fumbled this hard. It's like having a winning lottery ticket and refusing to cash it
These 4 minutes are like watching all the frames in the entire S3. Maybe even more
Although the tldr is the production committee dumped the show on the current director (as the original S3 director left at some point in preproduction) earlier this year, giving him and JC Staff impossibly tight deadlines, forcing them to cut a ton of corners just to get episodes out on time. With that said, that is not an uncommon occurrence in the anime industry. You can't really go a year without at least a couple of shows collapsing due to poor higher up interference. OPM is just the most recent and infamous example.
Before anyone asks, I of course mean the leadership at JC Staff, not the production staff
Make your own opinions up on who's to blame..Bandai Namco for impossible tight deadlines, JC Staff for accepting that knowing they can't deliver good work, or both.
Isn't it a slideshow?
The webcomic and manga are both still really good
Not long after, Madhouse was revealed to have severe labor issues.
How can you do this to me, inexorable march of time ._.
