Not gonna lie, but every singular opening has failed to grab me the same way that the original did, it just doesn’t live up to it unfortunately
BosuW2025-12-28 06:58
Just talking about the songs, yeah I'm actually pretty meh on Fatale. Though I'm vibing with what I've heard of this one.
Idol is just a bloody masterpiece, especially the full version
Former_Breakfast_8982025-12-28 07:03
Kinda fitting for the entire Oshi no ko tbh lol
But in seriousness it's almost impossible to beat Idol at all. I mean this is the first Japanese song that made it in the international billboard so there's that
ExpiringMilknCheese2025-12-28 07:05
I know, but even just as stand alone Openings, I think the others are just really dull.
mebbyyy2025-12-28 14:19
Except season 2 is miles better than season 1 as a whole, both adaptation and storytelling wise, alot of people would agree with that sentiment, it just didn't have the hype that season 1 did.
But yeh I do agree after season 2, the series slowly goes downhill as it starts to focus more on the revenge plot, at least season 3 would still be pretty good but definitely wouldn't be as good as season 2.
SparknightSyzygy2025-12-28 07:32
Every single one of the one other opening?
zairaner2025-12-28 10:55
They obviously could never beat the music video of idol, but I like fatale easily more than idol as an op.

tripleaamin2025-12-28 05:53
No it’s the same studio and staff from what I can see.
_Pyxyty2025-12-28 06:00
Ah I see. Thought when they said "studio that picked this up" that they were referring to the third season, not the whole. Thanks for the clarification!
DarkDonut752025-12-28 06:02
"Deserves their flowers" just means "deserves to be praised" btw
Kardiackon2025-12-28 07:50
doga kobo imo has made one of the best manga to anime adaptations that I've watched in awhile. the simple attention to detail that I've noticed as a manga reader is genuinely incredible from them. regardless of how things go beyond this season, I'm still excited solely because I want to see how this studio can adapt the source material.
ILiveForWater2025-12-28 05:37

ExpiringMilknCheese2025-12-28 06:38
Akane in particular. Best written character in the entire series bar none.
Ensec2025-12-28 08:45
no idea what happens but this leaves me scared, i sometimes wish anime studios were allowed creative freedom to change a story if the ending is hated by the manga readers but i guess we'll see.
notabear872025-12-28 05:19
I’m so curious to see how the anime only end up resonating with this season.
The manga fell off a cliff for me at this point. Wonder if they make changes.
BosuW2025-12-28 05:30
I think anime onlies will still like this one mostly. [Implied OnK]>!Some manga readers say this is when it started crumbling. In retrospect I agree, but while it was coming out it was awesome. Only when it ended did I start to have doubts. Then the rest... well the rest is history.!<
_Pyxyty2025-12-28 05:45
I still think I'll hold off on being wary until I see it. I heard plenty of the same around the time AoT ended and that turned out perfectly fine for me.
Admittedly though, given Aka's history with Kaguya-sama, I'm more worried, but still
BosuW2025-12-28 05:49
Hehe I've been clowning on AoT manga ending haters for years and recently on MHA manga ending haters but now with OnK I'm wondering if it'll be my turn to be on the other side. I'm a bit anxious haha
Zero chance it gets as bad a reception as with us manga readers, only because the adaptation is _that_ good. From that to a whole flip of opinion though, well we'll see how it goes.
argama872025-12-28 06:01
Oh, this ending was far worse than MHA or AOT. It'll be interesting to see how much it actually gets defended when it's animated.
BaitoDesuFate2025-12-28 06:10
MHA was a issue of leaks more than anything else, and AOT I still don't like the ending and have a lot of issues but it would be a lie to say it was incoherent or against what the series as going for so I can totally see why people like it, OnK whoever I just can't see how that was good in any shape or form, it's not a bad ending in a vacuum and I see a world where that would be a nice ending, but it's absolute awful considered everything before it.
argama872025-12-28 06:15
I was actually fine with AOT's ending, unpopular opinion but I thought it fit. MHA I didn't like at first, the extra chapter helped, but at least it had hope and overall was positive (it felt better animated even). Oshi no Ko's ending was so bad, so hopeless, so stupid, that it retroactively ruined the entire series. I have no interest in even trying to finish the show.
DrStein10102025-12-28 05:59
It's so much worse than AoT it's hard to believe.
Cryogenx372025-12-28 06:13
I’m very curious how A-1 Pictures and Doga Kobo are going to adapt the final parts of these Akasaka mangas. Possible anime originals/changes? We’ll have to see
Outrageous_Gene_76522025-12-28 06:14
The thing with AoT is, in the manga community, majority of it till the very end was either well recieved or decently recieved, even the ending itself, it was more of something which split the fandom rather being considered unanimously bad, it had its fans and those who found it decent at the very least.
Oshi no ko, on the other hand, not only does 90% of the manga readers hate the ending, the last two arcs as a whole had a very negative feedback and the arcs before it having a lukewarm to mixed one. The issues in Oshi No Ko's storyline was there for a long time and the ending was just the final nail in the coffin.
Oshi no ko has one of the best anime adaptations ever though, so they might be able to turn it around
ExpiringMilknCheese2025-12-28 06:37
90% of the manga fans loathe the ending, and the remaining 10% dislike it.
I’ve honestly not seen a singular person NOT disappointed by how it ends.
DrStein10102025-12-28 17:29
There are people who like it, but I haven't met one who can actually defend that opinion beyond [OnK] >!"It's so subversive!" or "I just love tragedy".!<
Which is pretty obviously a terrible defense of it as good writing.
Ensec2025-12-28 08:47
has any anime ever been given the glow up treatment of diverting from its manga story to get a second try at a more satisfying ending?

steven48692025-12-28 13:02

Usagi Drop anime improved on the manga by just... never adapting the second half of the manga
steven48692025-12-28 09:06
AoT had one bad chapter even then the ending was divisive with haters and fans, it's just that people who hated ending were extremely vocal. OnK on the other hand, everyone hates it and that's not just like it had a bad chapter the entire last arc had problems.
SSjjlex2025-12-28 06:02
Somewhat agreed [Plot direction comments, but no details] >!I hear this one is where the division begins (though not to any extreme degree). Personally, as someone who joined and binged read up until presumably the end of S3, I personally think it still holds its quality. Really the only issue with the series was simply that it got cut short. A lot of the story was good and couldve worked had they been given the chapters, the only problem is that it ended and thus so many things start failing in retrospect. So for me that cutoff point was Ch. 143 (absolutely no correlation to the contents of that chapter as I thought it was perfectly on point, I just felt it started feeling like they were chasing an ending instead of continuing the necessary threads after that chapter)!<
BosuW2025-12-28 06:07
[OnK]>!Hmm I'm not going to discuss the specifics if you haven't read it all, but while that is definitely part of it, my bigger problem with it is that I felt like Aka didn't have the balls to commit to a real and substantial critique of the entertainment industry _and_ to what the characters really wanted and how much more they could've unfolded from this. For as dark as it got in some places, it still felt like he pussied out, because that darkness wasn't meaningfully connected and cashed in on narratively.!<
Ellefied2025-12-28 09:42
[Oshi No Ko Manga]>!Yeah this is also my gripe with this Season. It sets up all these groundwork for a more massive and indepth critique of the entertainment industry, only for the author to swerve and just abandon all of it to a lukewarm take. It both failed to criticize the industry and made the characters suffer through useless arcs that made their character worse due to no pay offs in the end.!<
argama872025-12-28 05:58
That's right, this is where the series leaps off a cliff. People keep asking if the show is going to make changes but scant few completed series change the ending. It's going to be just as bad.
TeaAndLifting2025-12-28 12:15
It’s a lot of hope/cope. Anime rarely change from the manga, and I’d be nicely surprised if this was one of the few exceptions. I doubt it will be tho.
Especially in more modern times where people tend to care more about matching the story, doubly so if it’s completed. It’s not like the 00s where studios did whatever the fuck they wanted sometimes, to wrap up a story.
argama872025-12-28 21:01
Right, it was a different story when the shows outpaced the manga source and the studio would make up an ending. You don't see that very often anymore.
TeaAndLifting2025-12-28 23:30
Exactly. And even in cases where there was an ending, like a lot of visual novel adaptations, you still ended up with a complete mash of things, like Dean’s FSN.
generalmillscrunch2025-12-28 06:53
To me as an anime only that quite enjoys this series, it’s been walking on the ledge the entire time and I’m just waiting for it to crap its pants but it keeps sucking me back in. Somehow it keeps proving me wrong and its ridiculous premise/concept hasn’t detracted from a pretty exciting dive into the performing arts business. Aqua is a difficult to root for protagonist surrounded by a pretty alluring ensemble, setting, and plot. But it’s almost like I can’t see how they are going to bring this all together without it being a bunch of absolute bullshit. I’m aware that manga readers dunked on the ending of this one, but I also can’t imagine that it’s as bad as they say because: 1. Manga readers tend to over exaggerate one way or the other 2. This studio can elevate dogcrap writing we’ve seen it before 3. The spice can outweigh the logic when it comes to melodrama, much more so in action than on the page. Either way I’m tuning in for the character designs and pretty colors 🙏
garfe2025-12-28 07:03
I mean the thing is that the content covered in season 1 and 2 wasn't disliked so you haven't gotten to the parts that manga readers have an issue with. For all intents and purposes, you will likely enjoy S3 as well for a somewhat similar reason.
generalmillscrunch2025-12-28 07:58
I tend to disagree wildly with manga readers because, as much as it might hurt to point out, I don’t think the quality of the manga has as much bearing on whether the anime is “good” as people assume. I’ve seen so many dog water scripts and milquetoast designs turned into something worthwhile in anime, and the amount of squandered adaptations of “good” manga is more than you can count.
Ellefied2025-12-28 09:44
If Tokyo Blade was a 10/10, Season 3 is still around 7-8/10 in terms of enjoyment so it could still stand on its own. It only really gets dragged down by the story arcs after it.
Hopeful_Display_93442025-12-28 13:38
Is the manga ending as bad as AOT? No spoilers please
G_Riel_2025-12-28 15:07
Much worse.
notabear872025-12-28 07:05
Well hot take from me here…the actual ending itself is fine. It’s the execution of Tokyo Blade to final arc that’s the actual problem. Endings that aren’t earned, even if they make sense, won’t please anyone.
It’s just very clear the author had the series beginning to Tokyo blade planned; and then the ending. Everything between Tokyo Blade and the ending feels very…uninspired and full of contrivances.
Heda-of-Aincrad2025-12-28 07:07
I just finished reading this arc in the manga and personally, I thought it had some of the best parts in the entire series, so I'm really looking forward to it. The arc started kind of slow for me but ended very strong, which is also how I felt about season 2.
Loeffellux2025-12-29 18:54
Feel like a big part of the hate that the later parts of the manga gets is simply due to the story not taking the direction that a majority of the audience wanted it to take. Yes, it could've been better, obviously but at least imo it's far from the train wreck that everyone claims it to be
Lemon_Phoenix2025-12-28 08:44
I don't think I've ever felt so vindicated dropping a series
mebbyyy2025-12-28 14:24
The series definitely will go downhill in season 3, but it definitely hasn't reach the point of falling off the cliff yet, the real shitshow is going to be in season 4, season 3 will still end pretty decently compared to what's to come in season 4.
kaori_cicak9902025-12-28 05:23
With mahouka movie announcement 2026 will be banger of anime year. Especially "omaigoto incensio" Lol
BosuW2025-12-28 05:26
Bro Aqua so small lol. And Kana didn't even get her own panel 💀
Meanwhile Akane: top of the page, double panel. I see the agenda, designer.
I'd hoped Ruby's dark Hoshigan would be more prominent. They're creepy as fuck in the manga, like the stare follows you no matter where you look.
chirb82025-12-28 05:37
How many more seasons for a full adaptation?
EagleEye2502025-12-28 05:40
Probably it would take 1 more season for full adaptation
ILiveForWater2025-12-28 05:40
This should adapt 1 arc and then a small arc to end on a cliffhanger. That’ll leave around 60 chapters, but I don’t really see a world where they make 2 seasons from the final bit of arcs.
So likely 1 more after this.
DrStein10102025-12-28 05:59
This should cover everything before the final arc, so season 4 should finish it.

Queue_Jumping_Quack2025-12-28 06:07
Ruby seems to be front and center here and in the animated PV. She's not a huge favorite of mine so far, but considering the developments toward the end of season 2, it makes sense if this season starts focusing more on her.
Its a shame the source readers can't seemingly stop trying to talk to anime onlys about their feelings on the manga ending though... It just means I cannot really read the episode threads this seasons or going forward to keep from getting spoiled.
BosuW2025-12-28 06:11
Episode threads should be fine, as spoiler rules are even more draconian there. You can't even talk about how events already animated compare to the manga without being booted to the source corner. Just give the mods some time to shift through the initial wave of idiots.
Queue_Jumping_Quack2025-12-28 06:31
I am not so worried about the initial wave of hit and run posters posting open and blatant spoilers. Its the ones masking themselves as anime onlys who post their spoilers as "speculation" that I really detest. The mods do a good job and I fully appreciate their efforts, but they won't always notice the "speculators" in time (or get reports of them).
I would like to read the episode discussions though... so maybe waiting a day or even two might be the trick. It is a miracle I've managed to stay unspoiled so long in any case...
baseballlover7232025-12-28 12:09
> Its the ones masking themselves as anime onlys who post their spoilers as "speculation" that I really detest.
Source readers are not allow to speculate about the things they already know. If you (or anyone else) find evidence of people fake speculating, please report them (preferably with a link to the evidence too, to make our jobs easier). **They will get a very stern warning or a ban**. Those types of people are the hardest to detect.
And for the record, it doesn't matter if they're fake speculating actual spoilers, or fake ones. Anything that can be construed as speculating isn't allowed.
bmann102025-12-28 15:02
I promise I’m not asking this pedantically, what if you genuinely have not read a manga and you are just talking about what you want to see happen in a future season? Is that not allowed? Or is it only if you show signs of fake speculation that isn’t allowed. If so what if real speculation happens to be correct?
baseballlover7232025-12-29 03:47
> I promise I’m not asking this pedantically
No worries at all, it's a very reasonable question.
> what if you genuinely have not read a manga and you are just talking about what you want to see happen in a future season? Is that not allowed?
If you are an anime only (with a minor asterisk if an anime only manages to pick up source material info elsewhere without actually reading it, like via a series specific sub), than you are allowed to freely speculate. Full stop.
> Or is it only if you show signs of fake speculation that isn’t allowed.
Correct.
> If so what if real speculation happens to be correct?
If a source reader confirms or denies your speculation, that is a considered a spoiler (for them) and *they* will have their comment removed, and given an automatic 8 day ban for spoiling. **Saying something is a spoiler is in of itself, a spoiler**.
The only way this won't be true, is if we (the mods) mistakenly think that you are a source reader masquerading as an anime only (because people do this). We usually try and give the benefit of the doubt if we aren't sure if someone is a source reader or not (if they don't have much of a history for instance), but unfortunately, we make mistakes sometimes (usually with very accurate theories from new users with virtually no history).
**If you are mistakenly banned, please appeal in mod mail**.
Though I can't guarantee that it will always be overturned even if it was a true mistake, since people unfortunately do lie on the internet to try and avoid punishment, and proving a negative is very difficult to do. But if you're genuine and have a reasonable interaction in mod mail then it won't be counted against you in any way (and might potentially be points in your favor). So don't hurl slurs or make a wrong (like that spoilers shouldn't get a ban) or a really stupid argument (like that it's racism your comment was removed (yes, someone really tried that once)).
Oujii2025-12-28 15:13
The issue is that it’s kinda impossible to figure this out unless you already know the source.
baseballlover7232025-12-29 03:48
Yep, that's why it's hard for us to find everyone doing this, and why we really want people to bring cases like this to our attention. Because we miss a lot of them.
sanon4412025-12-28 08:34
That does drive me a little crazy though. If they are both animated and aren't spoilers anymore let us talk about it outside of the source corner. If the conversation isn't happening there, trying to move it there for one point is just needlessly restrictive for no reason.
oops_i_made_a_typi2025-12-28 06:52
yeah its real fucking annoying how manga readers are determined to drag down a series and poison the well for everyone. i'm a reader too but i'm still looking forward to this and wish ppl could just let others form their own judgement
ILiveForWater2025-12-28 06:58
Blame the author for ruining his own reputation. If he had dropped it before this arc, he would’ve been way more respected than continuing it. But instead, he decided to give the middle finger to his fanbase by shitting all over his work and pissing off to work on another manga.
oops_i_made_a_typi2025-12-28 07:08

ILiveForWater2025-12-28 07:09
I agree, fuck Aka
YAKlSOBAPAN2025-12-28 10:06
What is the difference to people hyping upcoming arcs? As long it's not a spoiler according to the rules, which those comments are not.
It's not the responsibility of the viewers/readers to be positive about an upcoming series. If you want that, go to a fanclub or ask the mods for a change in the rules.
If people can't form their own opinion on a series just because people online say "the upcoming stuff is trash", then that's on them tbh.
HarshTheDev2025-12-28 10:14
>Its a shame the source readers can't seemingly stop trying to talk to anime onlys about their feelings on the manga ending though...
Yeah it reminds of the times when AoT final season part 2 ^(oh so catchy) was airing and manga readers just couldn't keep to themselves.
That also makes me wonder if the ending is going to be actually dogshit or if it's gonna turn out just like AoT did.

Honestly, most of the time, when a manga gets adapted, every thread like this is flooded with manga readers telling anime-onlies what to 'expect' and every time it's basically light spoilers.
It's like with Chainsaw Man where every thread is - for some mystical reason - filled with people who have the exact correct read on the series, and seem to talk about it like an already finished story. Strange!!!
And when someone who hasn't read the manga says they don't understand something, they get flooded with replies that hint at things that happen later on, and explain how it's actually genius. Is this the most fun way to engage with a story? Isn't it better to let people deal with their feelings in the moment, instead of being told what conclusion they should arrive to?
It's almost like people who have experienced the story already dislike new people experiencing it and forming their own opinions

I didn't think the manga ending was nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Yes, it was rushed and could have been done better, but the resolution itself made sense in regards to the larger themes of the story.

Yesshua2025-12-28 06:55
This is such a weird series. Part revenge epic, part reborn in a new life with my old memories and I'm surrounded by teenage girls who are thirsting for me, and part entertainment industry tell all.
But it's actually doing all 3 pretty well. The revenge angle feels like it's unhealthy obsession and destructive. This is good, this is how revenge epics work. If Ahab killed the whale, felt fulfilled, and lived happily ever after that book would suck lol.
The romance thing is cliche wish fulfillment, except all the girls have actual personality and interests beyond Aqua and also some of the relationships seem pretty toxic? I love a toxic love affair in anime. The moment that enters the picture you know we're not just doing wish fulfillment waifus.
And the entertainment industry critique has been empathetic to tons of people we don't normally see and has made a point not to glamorize the process. It's not the hardest hitting criticism I've ever seen, but it's sure as hell better than other shows about idols and acting.
As long as season 3 continues those trends I reckon I'll have a great time.

There's also the bit where the second life thing is actually relevant to the plot, i.e. it won't work and character motivations become much weaker without the reborn thing. Basic stuff, but few isekais (yes I know this isnt technically one) justify their existences as one.
Mr_Yous862025-12-28 07:12
The manga ending made me lose all excitement for the anime tbh
kayak2272025-12-28 09:20
I have been following the manga since ch.1 dropped and was really disappointed with how it wasted all the character development down the drain. Was gonna binged watch S2 but after reading the ending while the ani was still airing I just ask myself what is the point? It's like the author just lost all interest and want to end it. I'm not even mad just disappointed.

Aka should've let Mengo take the reins.
crxsso_dssreer2025-12-28 07:24
a good first episode but then the rest of the series is pure garbage.
now you're hooked because you want to know who did it, but there is nothing interesting about the show itself.

Hell yeah

Kana my beloved

They're still sinking money into this? I get that they were under contract and thus have to make a third season, but I'd think they'd at least try and save some money and not waste it on a big advertising push.
Embarrassed-Air-21142025-12-28 07:34
YES MORE OSHI no ko
bandannadann2025-12-28 07:59
Caught up to season 2 just the other night. What a ride!
I know people are sour on the ending for the manga, but I've heard that lots of times before and I've learned to take that with a grain of salt lol
Gekko_GameDev2025-12-28 08:49
This anime is so good when there's no manga reader crying in your ear how much they don't like the future plot. I don't care about your feelings, stop being annoying and let anime viewers judge for themselves.

Tuning in for Akane.

Got spoiled for the manga ending and after watching Season 2 being less interesting than 1... I'm hoping for an anime original ending at least. Season 1 was PERFECT from start to end.
TxRyuxT2025-12-28 12:39
So many good stuff next year Jan!
Is this the penultimate season to wrap up the series?
Flashy-Being-81972025-12-28 14:11
Love this anime

Looking forward to this.

Manga readers not being insufferable on every thread is apparently impossible. Actually the worst fandom I've ever seen.
PencilgonGiveIt2Ya2025-12-28 15:56
it's been a year daddy
Careful_Ad_90772025-12-28 15:57
There are two camps regarding the ending of the manga, the ones who only dislike the very conclusion at the end and the ones that dislike later plot developments.
The factor that separates them is how well you take grey morality.

Idol is just a bloody masterpiece, especially the full version
But in seriousness it's almost impossible to beat Idol at all. I mean this is the first Japanese song that made it in the international billboard so there's that
But yeh I do agree after season 2, the series slowly goes downhill as it starts to focus more on the revenge plot, at least season 3 would still be pretty good but definitely wouldn't be as good as season 2.
The manga fell off a cliff for me at this point. Wonder if they make changes.
Admittedly though, given Aka's history with Kaguya-sama, I'm more worried, but still
Zero chance it gets as bad a reception as with us manga readers, only because the adaptation is _that_ good. From that to a whole flip of opinion though, well we'll see how it goes.
I’ve honestly not seen a singular person NOT disappointed by how it ends.
Which is pretty obviously a terrible defense of it as good writing.
Especially in more modern times where people tend to care more about matching the story, doubly so if it’s completed. It’s not like the 00s where studios did whatever the fuck they wanted sometimes, to wrap up a story.
It’s just very clear the author had the series beginning to Tokyo blade planned; and then the ending. Everything between Tokyo Blade and the ending feels very…uninspired and full of contrivances.
Meanwhile Akane: top of the page, double panel. I see the agenda, designer.
I'd hoped Ruby's dark Hoshigan would be more prominent. They're creepy as fuck in the manga, like the stare follows you no matter where you look.
So likely 1 more after this.
Its a shame the source readers can't seemingly stop trying to talk to anime onlys about their feelings on the manga ending though... It just means I cannot really read the episode threads this seasons or going forward to keep from getting spoiled.
I would like to read the episode discussions though... so maybe waiting a day or even two might be the trick. It is a miracle I've managed to stay unspoiled so long in any case...
It's not the responsibility of the viewers/readers to be positive about an upcoming series. If you want that, go to a fanclub or ask the mods for a change in the rules.
If people can't form their own opinion on a series just because people online say "the upcoming stuff is trash", then that's on them tbh.
[](#delighted)
Ruby, my potential new beloved based on how Season 3 goes!
[](#awe)
But it's actually doing all 3 pretty well. The revenge angle feels like it's unhealthy obsession and destructive. This is good, this is how revenge epics work. If Ahab killed the whale, felt fulfilled, and lived happily ever after that book would suck lol.
