What is your favorite romance anime? Or top 5
I was just thinking and wanted to hear other people opinion, i dont really have much irl friends that watch romance animes so i cant chat to them about it. My top 4 has to be Oregairu, the fragrant flower blooms, more than a married couples but not lovers, kono oto tomare. Its a lot more peak out there, but them 4 are definitely some of my favorites

Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the great classics (the anime first season aired in 1999, I think) in the magical girl genre, like genre defining classics. It's about a 10 year old girl who accidentally awakens and scatters a set of magic cards and is tasked with collecting them to prevent them from doing various mischief around the town. The magical girl plot is iconic, but to me the true strength of this anime are the slice of life and romance elements. The cast of characters is so likeable (but not very realistic, everyone is just a bit idealised, but I find that watching them makes me believe in humanity) and it's just so fun to see their interactions and watching their relationships. And, while there are romance elements from the start, the true main romance is an extremely slow burn, but I love it for that, since you really see every little step in a changing relationship and you have the time to really appreciate it. The second movie is just a perfect climax for the romance part, and if you get to love the main couple, you have the yet unfinished adaptation of the sequel, Clear Card, where you get quite a few sugary moments of the main couble just being a cute couple. Overall, this one is not a pure romance, since the main plot is about the magical girl collecting the magical cards, but the main romance subplot slowly gains importance and by the end becomes as important if not more than the main magical girl plot. A warning, though, there are several side characters who have questionable romantic relationships (mainly due to age gap), but fortunately the most outrageous one is left pretty amiguous in the anime (in the manga, it's infuriatingly inappropriate). The main romance doesn't have any problems at all, and in my opinion, is one of the cutest love stories ever told.
KImagure Orange Road is an 80's romcom centered around a highschool love triangle. The protagonist and his sisters have special powers (mostly telekinesis and teleportation), so when they are discovered, they have to move. After moving once more, he meets a mysterious beautiful girl, who later happens to be his classmate, and she becomes the main love interest. However, another girl, 2 years younger, bumps into the protagonist and thinks they had an accidental kiss and starts to obsessively like him and chase after him. Becuase of his indecisiveness and inability to say a clear no, the protagonist ends up dating the younger girl, who he finds cute, despite clearly preferring the main girl. But, and here's the important part in the dynamic, the two girls are best friends since childhood. The main girl sort of backs down and accepts the younger girl's relationship, but since they are all friends, ends up spending a lot of time with the protagonist and there's clear romantic feelings in the air. The whole series is about how they mantain that uneasy love triangle they become sort of comfortable with, it is quite episodic, since almost every episode there's a return to the status quo, but there's also subtle progress. The anime series itself has a weird and unsatisfying ending, but there's a movie that is a quite dramatic and realistic conclusion for the love triangle, one of the most realistic portrayals of a tough break up I've seen in anime. A second movie has a bit of a convoluted time-travel plot and sort of heals the broken friendship, while advancing the main couple's relationship. I really like Kimagure Orange Road because it is one of the most realistic portrayals of teenage life and emotional behaviour I've seen in anime, it nails "I want to be an adult, but I am not ready yet" feeling most teenagers struggle with. And also, the main girl is one of the first examples of a (mostly non-violent) tsundere in anime, and my first anime crush.
