Airing 2027, I am excited! Also yet another dragon anime from Kyo Ani ;)
Kougeru-Sama2025-12-28 11:18
It didn't say 2027. Could be 2028 or later depending.
Farmaceut72025-12-28 11:24
Bro... Watch the video from 1:08 onwards. It literally goes - 2025>>2026>>20-WSJ logo, they cant be more obviously implying that their 1st WSJ title is coming in 2027.
n080dy1232025-12-28 11:33
It does seem like that's the implication but the fact they stop at 20, then do that logo in place of it, seems like a deliberate lack of commitment.
I'm guessing the plan is 2027, but they don't want to publicly lock it in until later on to avoid crunch or delays.
Farmaceut72025-12-28 11:37
I mean... In my brain 2027 goes after 2026, they are probably already looking for empty timeslots in 2027 - that shit has to get bought years in advance.
fire_chaser12025-12-28 12:00
They stated in the subtitle near the end that "The broadcast is still a long way off" so i don't think it will aired in 2027, maybe 2028/2029 depending on the manga progress too especially considering there is like only 4 volumes out as of now
drstripjo2025-12-28 11:05
I didn't even consider this to be a possibility. Looks like it's 2027 at earliest but I'm so happy and hyped

WeatherBackground7362025-12-28 11:21
as Key and Peele said, anything is possible
brb, gonna jump off a cliff to grow wings and turn into a robot
hikoboshi_sama2025-12-28 12:24
>anything is possible
Fuck yeah Bloom into You season 2 gonna be announced next year. Claiming it!
bakaa_ningen2025-12-28 13:26
Woah, that's too much dreaming, don't be high
heimdal772025-12-28 16:54
Ok Icarus.
eoz2025-12-28 11:31
Ever since the sex robot yuri anime was announced I have become incapable of surprise about a manga getting an anime. But still, this one is a delightful piece of news!
Edit: it's
Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android?
Syokhan2025-12-28 11:35
There are still manga out there for which I think an adaptation would be pretty surprising. Rosen Garten Saga for instance.
zackphoenix1232025-12-28 13:23
I don't want a rosen Garten saga anime in the fear that it only gets like Record of Ragnarok quality adaptation.
Aureus232025-12-28 16:13
That doesn't hold water anymore cuz Season 2 and 3 stepped up the animation alot!!!
Careful_Ad_90772025-12-28 16:03
I want the trio of Isekai but not manga to be animated.
Breaking a love triangle. A girl calls mes back from getting isekaied, she looks the same, 7years have passed. There is no magic or anything, only a teenager adapting back to a world ( and life) that continued after she left.
My son got isekaid.: what happened to the family that was left behind.
Though I calm it a trio I don't remember the third one.
[Edit]
Ah the third one is Furohile, a love story between people from two parallel world who can only meet at a specific time and place
heimdal772025-12-28 16:57
There is a anime about sucking on women's breast to gain energy for super powers and one about visiting different monstergirl brthels. Plus don't forget the bdsm magical girl yuri one.
Emergency-Boat2025-12-28 18:57
Seikon no Qwaser, none of those can compete with Rosen Garten Saga though in terms of insanity.
lxmdrgljp2025-12-28 12:31
what manga is that one?
aohige_rd2025-12-28 14:20
Everyone expected RuriDragon to get an anime soon. The surprising part of the news is the Kyoani part.
Charming_Volume_86132025-12-28 11:38
It's one of the more popular jump series around rn, of course it was gonna get an anime.
lucio542025-12-28 13:40
Anime sure, but by kyoani? That's the crazy part.
Hitman71282025-12-28 12:34
Guess we have to do the MugiWait game until we get more info

More dragon girls for KyoAni, super excited for this I freaking love this manga
cppn022025-12-28 11:08
Ruri x Kobayashi crossover when?
Ocixo2025-12-28 11:25
I would be very surprised if there won’t be any crossovers collabs between Tohru and Ruri. A mini spin-off series is maybe asking too much, though.
Then again, KyoAni has more than enough IPs to make such a thing work.
Raging-Brachydios2025-12-28 13:13
I doubt, Ruri is from Jump and I think they don't allow those crossovers with IPs of other magazines/companies
ali941272025-12-28 11:41
Would be kinda funny if Kanna treats Ruri as a baby dragon.
WhichCombination56372025-12-28 12:57
Peak SoL manga getting adapted by a peak studio that knows how to make peak SoL anime. Now we just gotta stay alive until it releases.
vp7972025-12-28 11:05
Greatest Christmas present of all time, thanks Kyoani
thisisdropd2025-12-28 11:05
KyoAni working on a Shonen Jump series? This is bound to be lit.
TheBlasphemerAmon2025-12-28 11:05
It’s funny how these days Jump titles struggle to get renowned studios because everyone is already booked years in advance, and then Ruri Dragon gets Kyoto Animation.
thisisdropd2025-12-28 11:08
Christmas miracle is real!
Life_Wealth_13922025-12-28 11:11
Not that surprising. RuriDragon stayed in hiatus for around 2 years with only 6 chapters. That's a pretty big achievement in a magazine as competitive as Shonen Jump.
WeatherBackground7362025-12-28 11:17
what's even more impressive is how it came back like nothing happened
RyouBestGirl2025-12-28 11:39
Bs, manga moved to Jump+ for easier schedule.
Mangaka recovered thankfully, but don't try to play it down.
PityBoi572025-12-28 11:57
Tbh I actually lost hope in this manga when I heard that the author went on a hiatus for medical reasons
I waited for a year before giving up and then suddenly the next year I heard good news about the return
Crisbo05_202025-12-28 11:59
Still in WSJ, just that they moved it to digital side, + it's also publishing in Jump+ like how 100 Gfs is despite being Young Jump series.
Tho yeah author did get easier schedule.
Cryten02025-12-28 13:19
A lot of the online only shonen jump digital titles have wonky upload schedules. One Punch Man comes to mind. That amount of times that one spent 2-4 months reworking a chapter.. might break double digits soon.
aohige_rd2025-12-28 14:36
Well, One Punch Man is not a shounen Jump publication. It's a **Tonarino Young Jump** website publication. VERY different from Ruri Dragon, which is simul-published on digital edition WSJ and Jump+.
aohige_rd2025-12-28 14:31
Yes and no, it's a bit more complicated.
It didn't just move to Jump plus, it also stays on the digital release of WSJ. You might think that's a pointless distinction as WSJ digital subscription is on Jump Plus, but there's actually a distinction.
Because Jump Plus is NOT the only Digital WSJ distribution. There are many other major e-books distros in Japan, including one run by Sony, and all of the digital WSJ has Ruri Dragon. In fact, digital version of Jump has more readers than the physical one now.
Thus, RuriDragon hasn't suffered a meaningful readership drop, and continues to enjoy growth and as of last month has exceeded the million copies sold mark.
nezeta2025-12-28 11:27
Well, KyoAni and ufotable are no doubt among the very best, but I think Mashle (A-1 Pictures), The Elusive Samurai (CloverWorks), and Kagurabachi (CygamesPictures) are also handled by top-tier studios and that what really matters is the budget and schedule. Blue Box and Bleach TYBW are also great quality.
Gregariouswaty2025-12-28 11:54
Kagurabachi hasn't been announced yet, has it?
Raging-Brachydios2025-12-28 13:17
yeah, i dunno what the guy was saying, every popular jump manga got big studios, it is only the less popular ones that didnt
Cute-Beginning-41262025-12-28 11:30
I hope this opens the floodgates to an eventual KyoAni Berserk adaptation lol
Torque-A2025-12-28 11:50
Based on industry insiders, KyoAni really just does whatever they like. It’s just as easy as “one of KyoAni’s higher-ups saw Ruri and liked it” and here we are.
alan_142025-12-28 12:50
It happened to CloverWorks staff with Bocchi the Rock. One day, the **Animation Producer** Umehara and the **Character Designer** Kerorira were discussing their favorite anime and manga on their way to an illustrator’s exhibition. Kerorira mentioned that he liked BtR and that he would love to be involved if it were ever adapted into an anime.
After that, Umehara asked his senior at CloverWorks about BtR. His senior replied that there have been an offer from Aniplex about BtR, so Umehara ask him to accept the offer
I learned about it from this [interview](https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2022/11/26/bocchi-the-rock-main-staff-interviews-series-director-keiichiro-saito-character-designer-kerorira-animation-producer-shouta-umehara/)
rizalisnanto2025-12-28 13:19
That is why I have been saying that if you have favorite manga and you want it to have great anime, you better praying hard that top producer/director/animator love it as well. To give another example Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are filled with staff that also fans of both series so sometimes the animators themselves who reached out to the production instead of the other way around.
elbenji2025-12-29 02:25
Watanare just last season got the same treatment
Careful_Ad_90772025-12-28 16:00
Also. The Mushoku tensei producer went as far as recruiting people to make a new studio.
SolomonBlack2025-12-28 15:37
> It’s just as easy as “one of KyoAni’s higher-ups saw Ruri and liked it”
That's the usual reaction to RuriDragon!
oops_i_made_a_typi2025-12-28 15:58
and its not surprising, this sort of story feels right in KyoAni's wheelhouse.
tho i kinda wish they were the ones on Akanebanashi instead, that one feels like it really needs a great team to adapt well
Spiritual_Lie25632025-12-28 16:54
I would doubt it was as simple as that, since it's hard to believe if WSJ was planning a RuriDragon anime, their first thought wouldn't be "get us the studio that made Dragon Maid at any price."
Gaporigo2025-12-28 19:03
Ofc but if Kyoani wouldn't have wanted to do it they'd just go "lol no"
CatgirlYamada2025-12-29 04:13
Probably not even the higher ups. While Taichi Ishidate has already been the main director and episode directors in many of KyoAni's production, he's still pretty much a technical staff there, and he managed to convince everyone that CITY, the manga he really liked, should get an anime.
lurker_is_lurking2025-12-29 05:13
Ishidate and a number of important creatives belong to their board of directors so definitely still counts as higher-ups.
AliceinTeyvatland2025-12-28 11:52
Every studio is getting booked now, I wonder who would pick Ichi the Witch.
SolomonBlack2025-12-28 15:43
In a perfect world... Shaft with a crew heavy on Madoka veterans.
Raging-Brachydios2025-12-28 13:17
do they really? I can't remember any popular Jump manga that didn't pick a big studio, I dunno why create fake narratives
giratina132025-12-28 16:43
Thats also cuz Ruri deserves nothing but the absolute best
CyanideIE2025-12-28 11:06
This will probably take a while as there's barely enough chapters out for a 12 episode season.
gc111172025-12-28 11:08
That's what im thinking, considering they were coy with the year calling it 20*pirate logo*
capscreen2025-12-28 11:57
They'll just do anime original episodes. Kyoani does this all the time anyway
redlegsfan212025-12-28 15:16
Doesn't even need to be anime original episodes, they can just show the same story and animate it 8 different ways.
BlatantConservative2025-12-28 15:32
I am always entertained seeing people still mad about the Endless Eight sixteen years later lmfao
Terrible-Trick-60872025-12-28 15:54
Still impressed how they animated every Endless Eight episode differently lol. Even for scenes with the exact same dialog and no deviation.
BigCheeks22025-12-28 17:33
They recorded that same dialogue multiple times too.
I asked Aya Hirano about Endless Eight at my local convention some years back. She said the cast joked that they felt like they were in a time loop at the recording studio, recording the same lines over and over and over again.
phantomthiefkid_2025-12-28 12:16
Shiunji Family got an anime with only like 30 chapters or something
DegenerateSock2025-12-28 13:22
It will take a while, but Ruri Dragon has 42 chapters. That's plenty if they do it well. Good adaptions typically only do 2-3 manga chapters per episode.
For context, Bocchi The Rock adapted about 24 chapters into 12 episodes. Frieren did about 60 chapters into 24 episodes.
SolomonBlack2025-12-28 15:31
Context matters a whole lot too. A page of dialogue can yield more runtime then a whole chapter of action choreography. And while I don't know that I'd called it dense reading Ruri is not remotely action driven.
Ellefied2025-12-28 13:24
I think there's a pretty good cliffhanger ending for a 12 episode season right now. [Manga Spoiler]>!Ruri finally coming forward and telling everything to her classmates about her dragon origins is probably going to be the last episode, making it a helluva cliffhanger for the series.!<
Mathmango2025-12-28 14:29
If there's one studio that I trust to do filler episodes, it's KyoAni.
TheDerped2025-12-28 16:36
Especially when those filler feel right at home with the series anyway.
WhoiusBarrel2025-12-28 11:06
This is definitely KyoAni coded with the vibes and themes. Huge W for everyone involved!
ChoiceSupermarket2302025-12-28 11:07
KyoAni is back!
Nulazanzal2025-12-28 11:07
KyoAni X RuriDragon is a match made in heaven. Slice of Life enjoyers always win.
waynethehuman2025-12-28 12:36
It really is. You honestly couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. If you asked people on arrmanga which studio they’d want to animate RuriDragon, KyoAni would be the runaway pick. And they actually got it.
BlatantConservative2025-12-28 15:31
The Ruridragon author is so blessed. Deserved ofc, great manga, just it's amazing.
Like seriously, after an extremely long hiatus, the manga got the spot and popularity back, and then gets a hail mary KyoAni adaptation.
Weak_Season_Of_Anime2025-12-28 11:08
Holy moly Ruri Dragon by Kyoani? Unexpected W.
Cute-Beginning-41262025-12-28 11:08
No way we’re actually getting KyoAni × Shonen Jump before GTA 6 😭
MapoTofuMan2025-12-28 11:08
From a super long hiatus to a KyoAni adaptation, damn. I'm happy for the mangaka.
zairaner2025-12-28 11:08
Wtf? wtf?
That is such an early announcement (42 chapter) for a series quite prone to hiatuses. Would have kinda expected for them to let more chapters build up.
For sure popular enough. Hell, maybe they only series that got *more* popular through it's hiatus.
vp7972025-12-28 11:12
this anime will be for 2027, so they will be letting chapters build up, the manga will probably have 60-80 chapters by the time the anime rolls around
Kougeru-Sama2025-12-28 11:20
Stop repeating this 2027 date . They didn't list a year. They said "the broadcast is a long ways off" and that's all. Could be later
vp7972025-12-28 11:41
"2027 at the very earliest, possibly later" gives more credence to what I am actually saying, but I guess I just assumed it was 2027 because of how the trailer was set up
Joshawott272025-12-28 11:21
The series has already been really popular. The fact that it was allowed to go on such a long hiatus initially instead of just being axed is a sign of that. It’s also already receiving merchandise like nendoroids and Pop Up Parades, which is uncommon for a series without an anime.
KyoAni has already said that it will be further out than next year, so it will probably be a 1-cour series in 2027 or something.
ali941272025-12-28 11:43
I'm wondering if Ruri will get a second nendoroid as her eye color is substantially different in this teaser.
ThatCreepyBaer2025-12-28 17:08
The eye colour for the nendoroid was just odd to begin with, her eyes have always been red in colour illustrations when she isn't using her powers.
I don't think her eyes even turn the colour of the nendoroids for any of her powers lol.
Fools_Requiem2025-12-28 12:53
KyoAni has been really good at making anime original content to fill in the gaps left by the source, just see **K-On** which was like some 80% anime original content and **Love Chunibyo and Other Delusions** which added 3 major anime original characters (Dekomori, Touka, and Kumin).
Edit: [81.2% of K-On was anime original material.](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/KV3bEfXHoA)
Glad I had that saved.
Mathmango2025-12-28 14:30
Holy shit Kyoani did *work* on OCs.
Kirbyundertale2025-12-28 11:09

2000shadow20002025-12-28 11:09
Excited but man thats a long wait
SmurfRockRune2025-12-28 11:09
Absolutely perfect fit. Ruri Dragon is so wholesome and comfy and cute and KyoAni just needs to do their thing with the little details and this will be incredible.
Cute-Beginning-41262025-12-28 11:10
Also isn’t this basically opening a whole can Pandora’s box of more potential KyoAni × Jump works??
AdNecessary76412025-12-28 11:48
Maybe, but I doubt it will happen soon or frequently. KyoAni operates on pretty much a different universe compared to the rest of the industry and can actually afford to be very selective of which adaptations from other publishers they want to work on, and from what I've seen of Ruri Dragon, it seems like it's right up their alley.
Though the annoying part is now there's surely going to be a flood of comments once it airs saying "why does this look better than that one action show" or "why didn't/doesn't KyoAni adapt this show instead"...
zackphoenix1232025-12-28 14:01
I am seriously curious how KyoAni can afford their working conditions, or if it's something plenty of studios can do and just choose... not to..
VallenValiant2025-12-28 14:39
The secret is no secret. KyoAni has a work timetable and they stick to it. This means if you want to hire them, you had to book up to 2 years ahead. In this case Shonen Jump is giving the author time to make more chapters, so they are not in a rush and could afford the standard waiting period.
Most bad animation are caused by studios who accept work that they don't actually have the manpower to do. SHAFT is famous for never turning down a job offer, but the TV broadcast is always sketchy.
Basically it boils down to "able to say no to money", KyoAni know what they can handle and refuse to accept more than that. It means less earnings but better outcomes.
Sandtalon2025-12-28 18:31
> This means if you want to hire them,
But that's not how it really works. Any anime they've done post-2015 or so that isn't their own IP is stuff that they have specifically chosen to work on and reached out to the copyright holder on their own initiative. The funding, too, is primarily done by them. You can't hire them; you can only hope that someone at Kyoani wants to adapt your work.
Raging-Brachydios2025-12-28 13:19
I doubt, this is a special occasion because how much the series fits the studio, Kyoani usually prefers manga where they can have full control. I doubt they will have full control of Ruri because of how popular it is so Shueisha will have more of a say than what Kyoani is used too
Gaporigo2025-12-28 19:13
Maybe but they (Shueisha) are also not stupid, if Kyoani says "we want to do this this way" they are not gonna say no.
Viktorv222025-12-28 13:54
Not really. They are not pumping anime left and right. They probably picked it because this series is *made* for Kyoani
vetro2025-12-29 01:03
No because KyoAni only adapts series they like. They used to do adaptations for many different companies but pivoted towards a fully in-house publishing arm to keep profits and creative control to themselves.
So someone at KyoAni liked Ruri enough to want to adapt it. And someone at Jump is willing to relinquish all leadership and creative control on this project to make this happen.
Dudi4PoLFr2025-12-28 11:10
KyoAni doing Ruri? This will be the peakest peak that ever peaked!

Seems about right. This series will fit Kyoani's style like a glove. Ruri Dragon is about to get a glorious adaptation.
Temporary_Target_4732025-12-28 11:11
THIS IS HOW I FIND OUT THIS SERIES CAME BACK?
Early on, I read the first few chapters, I think it was only 5/6 chapters or so and it went on hiatus early. I had no idea it actually came back, that's nice to know.
ThaOppanHaimar2025-12-28 11:37
The mangaka had very bad health due to overworking (greed by the higher ups), like a miracle they came back after a year or so. Definitely a success story for the mangaka, though it leaves a sour taste.
PhenomsServant2025-12-28 11:46
Knowing SJ I’m kinda surprised they didn’t cancel it when that happened. Unless your Togashi aren’t these guys basically “if you can’t give us a weekly chapter, we’ll find someone who can?”
Temporary_Target_4732025-12-28 11:52
THIS! I was so certain it would just be forgotten about and that they wouldn't wait on the mangaka's health since it was only a few chapters in that I myself basically forgot about it and moved on.
But I'm so happy to see it back, whilst what I was able to read was only short, it was decent.
Temporary_Target_4732025-12-28 11:53
It's great to hear their health has improved. I was almost certain it would be cancelled due to it going on hiatus so early
Syokhan2025-12-28 11:11
Oh wow, this series hit the jackpot. I'm kinda flabbergasted though, never even thought KyoAni would be a possibility.
I can't wait! Love RuriDragon, it's going to be such a treat to see it animated with care.
FemmEllie2025-12-28 11:11
Well that's definitely a welcome surprise
Ghost6x2025-12-28 11:11
I could actually not think of a better studio to adapt this
Dextro_PT2025-12-28 11:12
What's most surprising to me is seeing Kyoto Animation's logo next to Shounen Jump's.
As much as I enjoy the direction the studio took in taking on more series they own the rights to, I have to admit that not all of those were bangers and I always wished the studio would continue dabbling in adaptations to bring their magic elsewhere. So this is amazing news.
EDIT: and yes, I do know they've done that. Kobayashi, Nichijou, Hyouka. Just happy to see those external works continuing.
gc111172025-12-28 11:15
I 100 percent agree. I honestly think the studio was at its peak when they were adapting visual novels by Key and Kadokawa light novels.
Dextro_PT2025-12-28 11:21
I think I agree. That was the time frame where every show they put out was a certified banger.
As much as I enjoyed stuff like Tamako Love Market, Violet Evergarden or Hibike Euphonium, you can't really argue that they were still on top when they also put out stuff like Kyoukai no Kanata, Myriad Colors Phantom World or even the TV series for Tamako Market.
Enjoyable shows, but very much being propped up by the quality of KyoAni's production over plot and characters.
I think it's a bit telling that their most popular franchises recently have been adaptations (Kobayashi, Nichijou), even when they did have some in-house popular stuff (Free, Hibike). But those in-house ones just don't compare in popularity.
Long winded way for me to say that as much as I love KyoAni, I don't think they have the in-house talent to write (or acquire the rights to) great stories on the regular. They do have everything else though. Their animation, character design, directing, etc, is absolutely top notch (see CITY for example. That show absolutely blows your mind visually).
Kougeru-Sama2025-12-28 11:21
They were all bangers actually

I see KyoAni as equivalent of an excellent engineering firm who executes the plans of other really well. They are the best at turning a solid idea into reality. But they are just not that good at creating their own ideas. And there is nothing wrong with working for other people.
battle_franky2025-12-28 11:13
Holy Shit. Ruri Dragon is set

It was on hiatus because of the poor health of the author. It came back when the author recovered. It was removed from the physical print of shonen jump but is published in the digital print.
gc111172025-12-28 11:18
It went into a long hiatus because the writter was sick. People were expecting it to be cancelled, but SJ kept it alive to the surprise of many and brought it back after 2 years. Going from the verge of being axed to a KyoAni adaptation is a hell of an accomplishment
pureauthor2025-12-28 11:18
Almost the exact opposite actually. The mangaka got health issues early on and the manga went on hiatus at like chapter 6.
And they LET the hiatus happen for like 2 years because the first few chapters were so popular and the manga just picked up again when they had recovered.
Joshawott272025-12-28 11:22
Not long after it started, the series went on hiatus for a really long time due to the author’s health. However, it’s come back at a reduced but still mostly consistent schedule (I think it’s bi-weekly now?).
At the time it was cancelled, there was only one volume published. I actually bought a copy in Japan 3 years ago because I was unsure if the series would return, or if the volume would be published in English.
haznam2025-12-28 11:15
I think this is the first time KyoAni animate Jump's work. Looking forward to it

From an unfortunate untimely hiatus to getting an anime adaptation handled by Kyoani?
This is huge for the series.
Thrasher4392025-12-28 11:17
Look forward to it, first half is super awesome and even though it feels like it's stagnated hard in more recent chapters and I don't enjoy it nearly as much as I once did. It's still better than 90% of other things in jump. With any luck kyoani can fuck around with and add their own things to it to make the later bits a bit less exhaustingly repetitive assuming they get that far in.
AcX9992025-12-28 11:18
Today is Fool's Day in Spain so I thought at first it was a prank, then I remembered it's not that day internationally lol.
Rabbitey-2025-12-28 11:18
I've heard good things about this series. I'll be watching, but I might just read the manga soon because it'll be a long wait.
Also, congrats to KyoAni for adopting another dragon lol
Joshawott272025-12-28 11:18
An adaptation felt inevitable, but KyoAni really felt like the dream studio for RuriDragon. Even though it’s a long way off, I’m really excited for this.

Ruri Dragon getting an animation is no surprise
But for it to be a Kyoani project? Holy shit, we're eating good, fellas

The last Ruri anime I watched turned out amazing so I’ll check this out. Also, KyoAni
ThaOppanHaimar2025-12-28 11:34
Wasn't able to continue reading the manga since the mangaka obviously 'collapsed' from overwork because the higher ups at the shonen magazine thought they found a new cow to milk, but nonetheless happy to see it survive for an anime. Hope the author gets to live a long life, even if I can't enjoy the post-collapse* chapters.
**(Condition of the mangaka early on, not anything about the story)**

One of my favourite manga's getting an adaptation by the GOAT of all anime studios. Just a few a days ago I said on a thread of RuriD's subreddit how it was impossible for RuriD to get adapted by Kyo Ani. Glad I was proven wrong
Jam-Master-Jay2025-12-28 11:52
The series was a smash hit when it first started only for the author to struggle with health and go on hiatus. It was great to see it return after a couple of years, and now we're getting the anime treatment.
I'm so excited to see this lovely series animated.
PityBoi572025-12-28 11:55
Knowing the history of this manga, I never expected they'd announce an anime for it
I'm honestly glad the author managed to do a comeback like this
W33B5202025-12-28 11:55
We won
TheOneWithALongName2025-12-28 11:57
I did not expect it to get a anime adaptation any time soon as it only has 4 volumes out. And it's Kyoto so I expect greatness here.

Kyo Ani doing shonen jump manga? I thought they adapted their own licensed works (or something like that)

KyoAni and RuriDragon... wow.
Is it safe to assume this project is the first (and only (for now Ig)) project they locked in for beyond the 2026 timeslot? If it is, then maybe it will be released in 2027? assuming it's progressing smoothly.
But I don't want to get hyped and then disappointed, so I'm gonna assume this comes out in 2029!
Alaea2025-12-28 12:27
Hope they use the same translator as the manga for subs. The translations are perfect with slang and such, and are a major part of why the manga reads so well IMO. Flub that and it loses the tone.
hikoboshi_sama2025-12-28 12:29
I should get around to reading this. It's been on my to-read list for a while but i just never got around to it. Getting an anime adaption and by KyoAni no less bumped it up in priority.

TehAxelius2025-12-28 13:53
I used to say that *RuriDragon* was the anime announcement I looked forward to the most, because it meant the author would have recovered from their medical hiatus and had been able to write enough to make an anime adaptation viable.
And now we're finally here.

blastcat42025-12-28 16:32
I'm happy for Ruri Dragon's mangaka. Their road to this point was not an easy one. It's an interesting choice of a manga for Kyoani to adapt and I'll be very curious to see how they do it. It's a good manga, well-written and good characters, but people shouldn't expect another Dragon Maid kind of ride. I expect it to lean more heavily on the side of drama.
Kuro_Canary2025-12-28 16:33
Whenever the topic of what studio I want to adapt Ruri Dragon came up I'd always say KyoAni, but I'd always follow it up with "but it'll never happen." Holy shit it actually happened!
CosmicPenguin_OV1032025-12-28 16:36
????????????????????
I expected a brand new title from KyoAni for this announcement, but I was thinking of their own novel publishing works being adapted again (there are a few that haven’t for now).
**And then you tell me it’s from freaking JUMP??? And it’s *the* most suitable title for this cooperation to be chosen???**
Ain’t no freaking way I will miss this one. Absolutely not.

I'm guessing the plan is 2027, but they don't want to publicly lock it in until later on to avoid crunch or delays.

Ah the third one is Furohile, a love story between people from two parallel world who can only meet at a specific time and place
[](#mugiwait)
But really looking forward to it!
Then again, KyoAni has more than enough IPs to make such a thing work.
Mangaka recovered thankfully, but don't try to play it down.
I waited for a year before giving up and then suddenly the next year I heard good news about the return
Tho yeah author did get easier schedule.
After that, Umehara asked his senior at CloverWorks about BtR. His senior replied that there have been an offer from Aniplex about BtR, so Umehara ask him to accept the offer
I learned about it from this [interview](https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2022/11/26/bocchi-the-rock-main-staff-interviews-series-director-keiichiro-saito-character-designer-kerorira-animation-producer-shouta-umehara/)
That's the usual reaction to RuriDragon!
tho i kinda wish they were the ones on Akanebanashi instead, that one feels like it really needs a great team to adapt well
I asked Aya Hirano about Endless Eight at my local convention some years back. She said the cast joked that they felt like they were in a time loop at the recording studio, recording the same lines over and over and over again.
For context, Bocchi The Rock adapted about 24 chapters into 12 episodes. Frieren did about 60 chapters into 24 episodes.
Like seriously, after an extremely long hiatus, the manga got the spot and popularity back, and then gets a hail mary KyoAni adaptation.
That is such an early announcement (42 chapter) for a series quite prone to hiatuses. Would have kinda expected for them to let more chapters build up.
For sure popular enough. Hell, maybe they only series that got *more* popular through it's hiatus.
KyoAni has already said that it will be further out than next year, so it will probably be a 1-cour series in 2027 or something.
I don't think her eyes even turn the colour of the nendoroids for any of her powers lol.
Edit: [81.2% of K-On was anime original material.](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/KV3bEfXHoA)
Glad I had that saved.
Though the annoying part is now there's surely going to be a flood of comments once it airs saying "why does this look better than that one action show" or "why didn't/doesn't KyoAni adapt this show instead"...
So someone at KyoAni liked Ruri enough to want to adapt it. And someone at Jump is willing to relinquish all leadership and creative control on this project to make this happen.
The story of a young dragon girl being lazy, doing her best...and being lazy again. A new series begins! ([mangaplus](https://mangaplus.shueisha.co.jp/titles/100196))

Fuckin' nice
Early on, I read the first few chapters, I think it was only 5/6 chapters or so and it went on hiatus early. I had no idea it actually came back, that's nice to know.
But I'm so happy to see it back, whilst what I was able to read was only short, it was decent.
I can't wait! Love RuriDragon, it's going to be such a treat to see it animated with care.
I just got the manga for Christmas. This is hype af
And they LET the hiatus happen for like 2 years because the first few chapters were so popular and the manga just picked up again when they had recovered.
