I never knew that Kishimoto (the creator of Naruto) had a twin, or that both of them are manga artists. This is what Kishimoto said regarding Naruto and Sasuke being modeled after the identical twin dynamic, which is crazy to think about.

Taken from Masashi Kishimoto's 2015 interview with Entermix Magazine:

"Actually, because I myself am a twin, I grew up with the same sensations Naruto felt from the time I was small. I don’t really like talking about this because it’s a bit uncool, but back in elementary school, both of us were physically small. My younger brother would often have a wrestling move called the 'Palo Special performed on him. You know how it is at that age—if you’re small, people just want to try out wrestling moves on you. When I watched my brother, it felt painful, almost as if the move were being done to me. Well, in reality, I was right there next to him getting hit with a 'Kinniku Driver' myself! (Laughs). It sounds strange, but in those moments, I felt a powerful sense of, 'We really are brothers.' It was the moment I became conscious of the bond with my younger brother. As I became a high school and college student ... I started to feel that same sensation I felt for my brother back in elementary school. It made me realize all over again how close we truly are. To me, brotherly love and friendship are one and the same. I am grateful to have been born a twin; after all, the relationship between my brother and me served as the primary prototype for Naruto and Sasuke's bond".

He has also often stated that having a twin meant he always had a benchmark. If his brother drew something good, he felt he had to draw something better, a rivalry that is mirrored in the original series of Naruto".
