Animes with similar feel to Shinsekai Yori

I’ve watched a lot of animes and I still haven’t found something that would make me feel the same as Shinsekai Yori. I loved the themes, the world building, everything about it. When Squealer says “we are humans too” - absolutely beautiful. I’m looking for something that will resemble this feeling. Preferably something with good art but I’m fine with anything as long as it’s similar at this point

In terms of setting and mood, it's pretty off base but in terms of suppressed children trying to figure out what growing up means in a fucked up society and world, I kept thinking of Shinsekai Yori when watching Sanda. Yes the shounen anime with a kid that transforms into Santa Claus. It has a similar sense of mystery of just how messed up everything truly is.

That said I don't think anything really comes close to Shinsekai Yori truly. It's a masterpiece and one of a kind imo. Maybe others will have better recommendations.

Heavenly Delusion is what are you looking for

Personally I think the writing is top notch. In particular, how it creates a world with its own rules and logic for its narrative. Then, create a problem that arises from said rules and logic. Then again, using that rules and logic, come up with a solution from it.

I think most stories don’t do that or don’t do that well. But Shinsekai yori does it in a way that’s not too predictable too. And because of that it feels more natural and organic rather than an asspull.

And this is on top of the worldbuilding and lore and character development

I watched it on a whim and was so surprised with how good it was. I’d go so far as to put it in my top 5 anime

Fuck man Shinsekai Yori was so good. Definitely an anime worth a rewatch.

Maybe Shadows House. Not saying both have the same plot, but the feeling of the unnatural + having their own world inside the "normal" world are very attractive.

Shiki

The setting is quite different but Psycho-Pass also features protagonists who are forced to confront the darkest parts of the society they live in and the morality of their own actions in response.

Whoa now maybe put a spoiler tag in there, that’s a pretty major spoiler. That’s a tough one, this is one of the top “oppression” anime. It’s not as dark, but I do get a similar vibe from Nagi no Asu kara.

Also Fumetsu no Anata e is a good introspective/deep feeling anime.

inu-oh, the three project itoh movies, specially harmony

- Shiki

Especially philosophical in defining the intra-conflict within humanity and between humanity and other species for defining personhood.

Probably also Kiseijuu in that respect.
