Get outta here Sein, I know it's one of your alt accounts.

She was really amazing as Frieren, on paper I wouldn't have thought it could work but she is forever my Frieren
And all respects to the Japanese VA, I have heard clips and she is amazing too <3

very wide range tbh, anya from spy x family and futaba from rascal bunny girl
darryledw2025-12-28 23:21
She also plays Vivy which is my favourite completed anime, so I was kind of sad about not having that connection being a dub watcher in both cases.
But one day I plan to rewatch both shows in sub.
MegaAltarianite2025-12-29 01:32
Vivy is voiced by Cristina Vee.
darryledw2025-12-29 01:37
The previous user was referring specifically to the roles played by the Japanese VA of Frieren with their comment and I was kind of following from that.
The Japanese VA of Frieren is the Japanese VA of Vivy.

And Elinalise! Both sides of the elf spectrum, performed brilliantly.
ali941272025-12-29 00:50
She’s High Elf Archer in Goblin Slayer as well, so she’s really been typecast as best elf girls.
MegaAltarianite2025-12-29 01:33
Before Frieren, I knew her as the masochist Sayuki from Hensuki.
CrazyLab882025-12-29 14:40
She was SAYUKI!?

I can't believe I didn't notice this while watching MT. Like I literally watched it RIGHT after finishing Frieren
MedicOfTime2025-12-28 23:35
Man, I don’t wanna be mean..but I did not like her as Frieren. The character is supposed to sound and act childish. She sounded way too much like an adult imo. She also suffers from the same thing all modern English dub VAs suffer from. She sounds like a human _person_ and not like an anime _character_.
darryledw2025-12-29 00:37
This all sounds very subjective, another anime that comes to mind is Spice and Wolf - Brina (English VA for Holo) sounding more "human than an anime character" + more mature is an infinite win for me in that setting and with that character.
When it comes to any other anime if they stopped doing the dub I will watch sub, even in the case of Frieren in which I feel pretty attached to dub, I would accept it and switch.
But in the case of Spice and Wolf - if J Michael Tatum and Brina ever stop doing it then I am not watching the anime anymore and only reading the light novel. When the remake first landed I felt absolutely nothing for the first episode with original audio then 2 weeks later J Michael and Brina return and I am completely enchanted all over again.
But I understand all of this is only my opinion, people enjoy different things.

Nah, it's not possible that anyone really likes the [old anime dubs](https://youtu.be/3KdkFvTiK7A?si=a7yxpxPfFr56mkoB)
Swimming-Elk67402025-12-29 03:36
What the hell does any of this mean lol?
DirtyTacoKid2025-12-29 13:57
It was an unconventional voice for a dub. They all usually have heavy "anime voice". But it's pretty close to original Frieren. I wouldn't describe her tone or way of speaking as childish in the original.
MonoMonMono2025-12-30 04:17
Maybe you'll like the other English dub from Muse Asia.
2000shadow20002025-12-29 02:25
I'm sorry but I really was not a fan of her as Frieren. She just didn't fit the role at all compared to the JP counterpart.
Not a dig at her specifically but just not a fan of this praticular role of hers
nullv2025-12-29 04:14
You've angered the mob. I just say I prefer subs over dubs and it avoids calling anyone out specifically.
LegendaryZXT2025-12-31 18:48
I mostly watch dubs myself, be it english or italian, but i have to agree: i preferred Japanese Frieren.
Informal-Lime63962025-12-29 03:42
Would be exciting if it were the original Japanese VA, but it's a dub VA...
darryledw2025-12-29 04:29
yes how terrible not to have Japanese language in a story that has used German culture for pretty much all of its themes and German words for all of the characters lol
Ssalari2025-12-29 06:00
Expect r/anime to still have these unhinged comments at the end of 2025.
Informal-Lime63962025-12-29 06:13
Expect r/anime to still have dub watchers at the end of 2025.
Ssalari2025-12-29 07:57
Like I said, unhinged comment
darryledw2025-12-29 09:25
expect r/anime to still have people complaining about not having Japanese language in a story that has used German culture for pretty much all of its themes and German words for all of the characters at the end of 2025.
Informal-Lime63962025-12-29 10:34
what u mean? It's originally voiced and meant to be watched in Japanese. Listening to a dub version is a disservice to one's self
darryledw2025-12-29 10:47
If it isn't allowed then why did the creator allow it the production company to make a dub then? Did they do a disservice to their story and self?
Do Japanese people do a disservice to one's self if they watch things like The Lord of The Rings in Japanese dub?
My friend is half Japanese living in America, she can watch anime raw but her BF needs subs, she told me in most anime subs are poorly translated, does that mean you are doing a disservice to yourself watching poorly translated subs?
Informal-Lime63962025-12-29 10:52
Well, dub isn't not allowed, it's just inferior.
> in most anime subs are poorly translated
Then something is wrong with me because I, like most others, watch with sub.
darryledw2025-12-29 10:54
> I, like most others, watch with sub.
so it is ok for you to do a disservice to one's self with poorly translated sub but you want to judge others? That is truely fascinating lol
Informal-Lime63962025-12-29 11:02
In my opinion the subs are fine, even fan subs are great. I do myself great service by watching in sub
darryledw2025-12-29 11:06
in my opinion the dubs are amazing, and I opinioned even harder than you did then multiplied it by infinity....so I guess my opinion is now the best one
>I do myself great service by watching in sub
I will have to tell my friend about this, she will certainly find it funny to hear how much someone could have based their personality on hating dub while being so proud of watching poorly translated subs haha

Poorly translated is an understatement. Sometimes they're just saying something else... It's _bad_
vicoheart2025-12-29 10:07
Oh I loved her voice as Frieren, very mature and sophisticated it was so refreshing.
