I really liked Erased because of how it was written and want something similar. It could be any theme, but with the same type of story and little to non 2nd hand embarrassment. Any tips?
Hi Puttie_, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

Thank you <3

I just watched it a couple of months ago and then watched Orange. Would recommend.

I highly recommend Orange as well, though be careful it does deal with Teenage Suicide.

That’s good to know, thanks for the TW

I've seen some of the live action years ago. Might have to give the anime a try.
ExaminationNo91862025-12-29 20:52
I didn't realise there was a live action version.
-Boton-2025-12-28 23:37
I watched "Erased" around that time last year and I liked it, too. I read that the ending in the manga is better than in the anime. Hm, maybe I should check it out.
ExaminationNo91862025-12-28 23:57
The Live Action of Erased is quite well done, with a different ending than the Anime (I never read the Manga, so I can't compare here)
-Boton-2025-12-29 11:06
Which one? There are 2, as far as I know. One with Tatsuya Fujiwara and another one. Haven't seen any of them, though.
ExaminationNo91862025-12-29 20:55
I didn't know there was 2 versions, and I forget where I watched the series I watched - like, what streaming service it was on, so I can't look it up to find it.
Quite possibly it may have been with the Japanese Film Festival.

The ending of the anime was somewhat original as this was alongside the release of the ending of the manga. The Netflix live action is an excellent adaptation of the manga and its ending is the same as the manga.
ExaminationNo91862025-12-31 23:33
For some reason I thought it was different again.
Like each one - the Manga, Anime and live action - all had seperate endings
LichoMiaw2025-12-31 23:38
I forgot to mention the other Live Action (which is a movie unlike the Netflix one that is in series format) its ending is a bit like the anime.

Watch summertime rendering even from episode 1 you will be hooked and keep wanting to know what happens later

You can try "The Summer When Hikaru Died".
It doesn't have a time travel premise, but you might like it. It has a mystery component, a struggling protagonist, and some Eldritch horror lore.
Puttie_2026-01-03 09:30
I tried it and really liked it!
Sad that it only has one season though ):
abandoned_idol2026-01-03 18:28
Yeah, it's a real shame that we have to wait for it. I guess the real horror is having to patiently wait for a second season of these innocent youngsters.
I'll give you some more leads at the risk of giving you some irrelevant recommendations (Erased/Hikaru raised the bar too high at this point):
1). "Apothecary Diaries": Doctor/Detective looks into successful/attempted assassinations inside the emperor's palace. Mystery/Intrigue/Thriller.
2). "Parasyte: The Maxim". Psshhhh! Psshhhh! Psshhhh! PssSssshhhhhhh! **kling!!!** Thriller/Suspense/SFX
3). "Orb: On the Movements of the Earth". The sun, the ~~Spanish~~ inquisition, frustrated astronomer/philosophers.
4). "Spice and Wolf. Two cheeky leads, barter, banter, batter (well, not really, I just got excited over the barter/banter coincidence, lousy English language). Long trade/negotiation focused saga in a pseudo-Dark Ages Europe featuring Pagan animal deities.
5). "Vinland Saga". Vikings. The ugly side of war. Pacifism. Though the protagonist is effectively absent in the first season (the prologue is long and obsessed with action/blood).
6). "Darker than Black". Since I'm just being careless now, I might as well add "Chinese Electric Batman" to the list. The OP by itself is fun to listen to. The story itself feels like a thriller anthology between an assassin and a number of tragic or corrupt psychics. I'm thinking of rewatching it.
Feel free to share what you were apathetic towards, and if any elements in these sparks some enthusiasm

I've already watched parasyte and it was alright, but I'll give the other ones a watch as well
