Suggestions on Anime for a Newbie
Hey everyone,
Recently I’ve got an itch to dive deeper into the world of anime and the many different series it offers can be a bit overwhelming. I’m looking for some guidance on what to watch next as someone who is pretty new to the genre.
I’ve seen the entire Dragon Ball Series (Kai, Z, Super, GT, Daima) movies included.
I’ve also recently finished Demon Slayer with the exception of the movies.
Now I want more and can’t bring myself to watch live action shows, I want Anime.
The issue I’ve run into is some are a bit difficult to understand or require a major commitment due to the number of episodes and it’s overwhelming (IE One Piece, Naruto)
Drop suggestions of your favorites that you would consider easy for an amateur to digest, with reasonable episode lengths. I’m trying to avoid the “overly sexual” themed ones but aside from that I am pretty open to whatever you all suggest. Thank you!

If you are open to non-battle, "Medalist" is a fun experience.
I'd encourage you to branch out to other genres in anime. e.g. Dungeon Meshi and Frieren are not battle shounen (well, Frieren could technically qualify...) and both have fun battles and strong comic relief.
By “non-battle” I assume it’s focused heavier on character relationships and drama. Correct me if I’m mistaken because I’m not too knowledgeable especially with the terminology.
Weekly anime take many episodes to "hook" a viewer, taking a lot of time investment upfront to create enthusiasm.
Battle shounen are basically characters fighting each other constantly, focus is on fights.
"Dandadan" is a seasonal battle shounen with a strong episode 1 hook. It has strong comic relief, lightning fast pacing, strong characterization, it adds well written romance (because the mangaka is a god at this), and it has a little bit of everything else. It's a low hanging fruit jack of all trades.
I only recommend anime of high quality and generally stick to accessible/easy to start ones. "Frieren" does have a slow 4 episode prologue though, I still recommend it because it becomes very conventional starting from episode 5.
I CAN recommend a high quality battle shounen though. But given that "World Trigger" had an upcoming reboot announced, I can't tell you to watch it until the reboot airs. You are forbidden from watching that until the reboot! Tee hee.
Best of luck with whatever you choose. Your experience will benefit exponentially from watching the best titles that each genre offers rather than sticking with overly long/inflated weekly battle anime.
Probably not your taste...
(Girls practicing a competitive sport that is ... kinda wrestling but with their boobs and ass...you get the idea)
It's a great show for the gooners that want it, but I don't believe it's what you're looking for.
That person is recommending it as a joke. It’s a hyper sexualized show with a lot of reference humor and would not be a great show to start with.
De:vadasy.
Strange steel fairy Rouran.
I can suggest a few I love (I watched a ton) if we exclude the big shonen anime :
Attack of Titans, Bungou Stray Dogs, Code Geass, Steins Gate, the Fate series
Overlord, Shangri La Frontier or Log Horizon if you like good isekai anime (not the trash ones)
Romance : I recommend Golden Time, Horimiya, Bunny girl senpai... they are other good ones.
Other masterpieces I have in mind : Frieren, UmaMusume, Charlotte, Baccano, Nurarihyon...
The list goes on, I can't even remember all the anime I like
If possible which of them would you consider “easily digestible” the type I can watch and not get lost with an overly complicated story.
But you can now add certainly now My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen or Black Clover now...
The most digestible I would say is either MHA or JJK (and I may be biaised... Bleach without the filler arcs.)
But maybe your last question was rather on my suggestions ? Idk lol.
"Starting with long-running shounen" seem to be a sort of mistaken common sense that keeps being repeated, it likely came from the fact that those were the first anime from some people, and for some reason the concluded that "therefore, those are the perfect anime to be the first for everyone and anyone", which is a bit silly. Granted, I fell for that too more than a decade ago.
My recommendations are either:
1. There's a new anime season starting now. Unironically just read the synopsis or watch trailers and see which interest you. Grab a couple titles (5-10), watch them weekly, discuss their episodes here on Reddit (A hobby is a community thing, after all), after that see which ones you enjoyed and search for more like those. (I recommend [MAL's seasonal page](https://myanimelist.net/anime/season) for that, as well as [this channel which I use for trailers/PV's](https://www.youtube.com/@o__oanime3728/playlists).
2. Use one those rec charts from /a/ if you don't wanna get into seasonals: [https://imgur.com/a/FgbrVMj](https://imgur.com/a/FgbrVMj)
Anime isn't a genre it's a medium that has many different genres in it like action, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, thriller,
>I’ve seen the entire Dragon Ball Series (Kai, Z, Super, GT, Daima)
Just to make sure you did watch the original series just called Dragon Ball right?
For recommendations with low sexual content that's good for beginners and doesn't have insane ep length.

technology advanced so far that it 'unlocked' magic. 'making' a spell is kinda like making an app for your smartphone. the skill of the person who wrote the code impacts the quality of the spell. once a spell exists other mages can install them into their CADs (iphone looking magic processing computer, other shapes too) and learn how to cast/control them.
the MC gets into the most prestigious magic institution in japan, but is slotted into remedial classes because his skills are too low. or are they?
super cool. a personal favorite.

It's an anime about high school volleyball. It has 4 seasons, like 83 episodes in total, and a few movies.
Even if you've never had any interest in volleyball or sports in general, this show is about so much more than that, and I couldn't recommend it enough.
