Just got into anime this year and would like to have recommendations.

I only really started watching anime this year. growing up, the only ones I watched were naruto and pokémon. So far I’ve watched Hajime no Ippo, Demon Slayer, AOT, Vinland Saga, and I’m currently watching Slam Dunk. The next one on my list is Initial D. I tend to prefer more grounded shows, especially from the ’80s–2000s era, but I’m open to any genre

Hi Away-Buy3306, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!

The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Have you tried Frieren: Beyond Journey's End? It’s great if you’re into slow-burn animes and there's a second season coming later this year.

- Parasyte the Maxim

- Mobile Suit Gundam Iron Blood Orphans - you can watch this completely standalone as a new fan to Gundam (standalone universe, characters etc) - if you want more 90s MS Team and War in the Pocket, while both are apart of the main Gundam universe (UC) both are good standalone stories too.

- Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Watch the first two prequel films then skip to EP3 of the main OVA.

- Ping Pong the Animation

- Ghost in the Shell Films and Stand Alone Complex - new remake coming out in 2026

- Monster/Pluto - Grouping them together because same creator

- Sword of the Stranger

- Black Lagoon - Highly recommend the dub

- Cyber City Oedo 808

- Ergo Proxy

- Haibane Renmei

- Redline

- Look Back

- Bubblegum Crisis

- Cyberpunk Edgerunners - highly recommend the dub as a mainly sub watcher

- Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

- Banana Fish

- Planetes - same creator as Vinland Saga

- Area 88 OVA

- Armored Trooper Votoms - and it's various spinoffs like Mellowlink

- Major

- The Big O

- Blue Gender

Monster, It's on Netflix and 74 episodes but it's a slow burn grounded mystery crime thriller

If, after you finish it, you like Initial D, there’s a series currently running called MF Ghost that continues the story, sort of.

I think "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya" is a must watch honestly, back in the mid 00s it used to be one of the biggest anime out there and there's a reason for that

One_Weird23712025-12-29 09:50

Endless Eight Arc. Most unique time loop I've ever seen done on television. Imagine watching it as it aired and waiting a week every new episode.

General_Limit_92862025-12-29 09:56

i think it was better back then honestly, i took a break from the anime cause of how long this is, however it doesn't change anything abt how peak it is

Sudden_Lifeguard2062025-12-29 09:44

Ik this might be cliche but honestly try naruto and naruto shippuden if you liked naruto its what got me into anime im currently rewatching the franchise and its still as good as it was the first watch

* Monster
* King Ranking (don't dismiss it based on the art style)

* Baccano
* Katangatari
* Psycho-Pass
