This scene angered me so much. Her blind trust in the system.
Marasbara52025-12-29 11:24
That's what makes it great
vs3a2025-12-29 11:24
Like many people trust chatgpt
lazy_bastard_0012025-12-29 11:45
Not the same. Everyone was told Sibyl system was infallible. People who didn't trust Sibyl were in jail.
UsErnaam32025-12-29 11:50
I don't think this guy was using critical thinking skills on this one. They just wanted to make a connection to IRL AI in relation to this system without taking into account the nuances of the two. Not worth engaging. No one really trusts ChatGPT. Everyone knows it hallucinates constantly.
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:38
> No one really trusts ChatGPT. Everyone knows it hallucinates constantly.
My friend, I work in IT/Software. And you would not believe how wrong you are even about people in my industry. There's execs I know that believe that AI is the only truth out there. They might be aware it can hallucinate but they rarely doubt its answers until competing information is put in front of them. And even then question it.
I know a C level whose answer to every quandary in the business is "what did AI recommend?" And yes Chat GPT, not even something more focused.
That said I think you're partly right in that there's a massive gap between the public trust in current day generative AI and the faith Akane had in Sibyl.
Grand_Escapade2025-12-29 12:55
Also if you've used ChatGPT at all, you'd know that it'd absolutely tell you to cap that guy
westerschelle2025-12-29 14:11
So they were just following orders?
Advanced-Garlic-38642025-12-29 11:47
What kind of psyop was conducted that made people hate AI more than the government? That shit is crazy.
maddie-madison2025-12-29 11:58
Pretty sure if chatgpt told me to kill someone or arrest them or things along that line I just wouldn't and I don't think society as a whole would either... so no nothing like chatgpt
Kirito_online2025-12-29 12:24
It also says in the site that chatgpt can make mistakes and we should check important info, that says it all.
LunarGhost002025-12-29 16:29
@Grok, is this true?
lazy_bastard_0012025-12-29 11:42
She did use the gun.
Hereva2025-12-29 11:52
Like an idiot. Didn't even hold it with two hands.
FishinSands2025-12-29 11:58
I don't think the new inspectors were trained using conventional guns.
lazy_bastard_0012025-12-29 12:13
Her world view was also completely shattered at that moment. So it's understandable she won't be able to properly shoot.
TheNosferatu2025-12-29 13:13
I was more impressed that she actually did fire it. Of course she missed, but she showed her first steps into rejecting the system. Or at least doubting it
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:34
She had seen signs to doubt it as early as her first collar as an Inspector, but had been trying to justify or excuse them in her head. This was the first time there was one she could not refute.
MechaMonsterMK_II2025-12-29 12:16
Not to mention could have easily killed Yuki with her shit aim.
Sganarellevalet2025-12-29 12:30
Wich make sense in the context of the show, their guns are supposed to do all the work including avoiding collateral damage, they don't need to think or train their aim since the guns will only fire when it detect a valid target.
Inspectors job is litteraly just to hold the gun and press the trigger when it tell them to, they have no particular combat skill.
FishinSands2025-12-29 13:24
Also, training them on conventional guns means "not trusting the system" and also might affect the psycho pass of the inspectors.
Blazin_Rathalos2025-12-29 14:11
I don't think this is entirely true, it does not actively aim, just judges the person it's pointed at. When unlocked the gun even literally says "Please aim carefully".
Sganarellevalet2025-12-29 15:45
Yes but it won't fire if not aimed at a valid target anyway, there is no consequence for missing since bad shots are automaticaly not taken.
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:22
It's still a travelling projectile, which means if one is not careful when firing say the Eliminator mode, an innocent victim could pass into the line of fire and be killed.
Which doesn't even touch how risky Destruction mode is around innocents, but that one always feels like "acceptable losses" mode anyway.
Sganarellevalet2025-12-29 16:31
Logically yes but unless I misremember or it happen after season 1 the guns are treated as 100% collateral damage proof in the story
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:54
Oh totally. But that's just as much a PR lie as the Sibyl system's infallibility. Never can fire on the wrong target, never can fail to fire on the right one, never does more damage than needed.
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:18
They aren't supposed to have combat skill on purpose, since that would imply capacity for violence, which would affect their score and Sibyl would boot them out of the program as potential offenders.
Of course you are right, it leads to situations where they cannot act since they literally don't know how.
An even better example in my mind is that public murder on the streets at one point in the show. Dozens if not hundreds of people witness it but no one acts, because no one can contemplate a world where something terrible could happen and they would need to act.
DrinkGinAndKerosene2025-12-29 13:01
"Like an idiot"
Tell me you don't know the setting without telling me you don't know the setting.
Your common sense is different from a person living in a world where their decisions are made for them.
LazyLich2025-12-29 15:18
Looks like a metaphor, no?
She sees his point and took the right step, but she still clings desperately to the old system, so she only takes a half measure.
In still clinging to a proven-failure of a system and lacking resolve and not committing to change, irreversible tragedy occurs.
Kill-bray2025-12-29 15:27
Yes, but that's a far shot from claiming that she had "blind trust in the system". If she truly had that, she wouldn't have even taken the gun.
This scene shows a very clear conflict inside of her, from one side she wants to trust the system, but from the other side she can't accept that the Sybil system is right in this case. The conflict is ultimately what prevents her from being calm and accurately shoot Makishima, even if she tried.
There's also the whole fact that if she had done that she would have been considered a criminal by the Sybil System and her psycho pass would have most likely become clouded. That would have basically spelled the end of her career, her freedom and her current life.
It's easy to judge her from the sides, but she was trust in this situation of all of sudden without any preparation, it would have been unrealistic for her to have a whole change of mind in a few seconds and make a calm and conscious decision to give up on everything in order to save an innocent life.
Morthra2025-12-29 23:30
Isn’t part of Akane’s whole deal that she is criminally asymptomatic like Makishima?
LazyLich2025-12-29 15:12
Like he said, not with resolve.
It's like when the government is fucky, and you have people who are still totally loyal, but some who see something is wrong but don't commit to any resolution. By taking half-measures instead of fully committing to fighting the wrong right in front of them, they achieve nothing at all.
You have to recognize wrongness but also have the resolve to do what it takes to take it down.
ThisIsMyFloor2025-12-29 12:51
There are many people like this in the world, maybe even most. People follow laws or regulations without consideration because that's what they are taught to do. People do as expected of them. Perhaps you have seen the video of the Brittish police carrying away a blind and crippled person because he protested against genocide, so he is deemed a terrorist. The police did as they are told and arrested him. They hold no responsibility after all, they just follow orders.
_Fun_Employed_2025-12-29 13:07
Yep, it upset me a ton too, I felt like for as smart as the character was supposed to be and her ability to recognize earlier in the series that the inverse was true, that the system sometimes incorrectly labeled people irredeemable who were just too scared and stressed, she should have been able to recognize when the system incorrectly identified people as “not bad” and shot him with the gun.
Banner2232025-12-29 13:12
She did. She's just never used an actual gun before, like other users higher up pointed out.
Alextherude_Senpai2025-12-29 20:23
Yeah, when your entire life is revolved around "just push the button and let the machine else think for you" mentality, it gives you a great view into what happens when you're suddenly cut off from your tools.
Could apply this to AI for the future generation as well, unfortunately.
SirePuns2025-12-29 20:47
I do appreciate what this scene did, overall, for Akane's characterization.
Drazyor2025-12-29 11:18
The first season of Psycho Pass was truly a good ride, I really enjoyed it
TheNosferatu2025-12-29 13:14
What about the others, though? I've been hesitant to continue since the first season was so good.
Bloodhit2025-12-29 13:21
Only first season was fully written by Gen Urobuchi, and it shows.
Kirosh22025-12-29 13:48
yeah... I wonder what we could have gotten if he did stay as the writer?
I would have loved for Akane to slowly become the head of the public safety bureau. Working toward bettering the sybil System, but also being a willing ally to it.
MelloMaster2025-12-29 13:26
Yupp, the first season was amazing, its a shame they never made another season or anything that would follow up with the story. I can't imagine the amazing potential that could possibly be shown with this awesome first season. Oh well, too bad, just gonna have to live life knowing that this is the first and only season of Psycho Pass.
Nomar_952025-12-29 13:44
The rest is still solid, it just never tops or even comes close to this season
Drazyor2025-12-29 13:46
imho Kougami vs Makishima was the peak of Psycho Pass, I had trouble getting involved with the scenario after that.
rnzerk2025-12-29 13:52
Pass. They butchered the plot and development
DorrajD2025-12-29 14:10
It's hit or miss. Some of the seasons/movies are good, some drag.
yosayoran2025-12-29 15:10
Second season is worse than s1 in every aspect, and recycles similar story beats.
The first movie is very good and serves as a direct expansion to the story of the first season.
Haven't watched the third season and other movies yet
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:13
They're fine. Yes the first season is the best, but the rest are OK. Second season is decent, third season is OK, and the first movie was alright. Haven't seen all of the rest yet.
One of these days I would like to see an experiment. Take two shows. Gen Urobuchi writes the first season ONLY for both of them. Both shows have at least two seasons. Let them ONLY reveal he wrote the first season for one of them.
See how many people freak out that the writing quality hit rock bottom on Season two for either. I bet the show they KNOW he was on everyone will hate S2, the show they don't I suspect people will be far less critical of. He tends to get overhyped a little, as good as some of his works are.
the_wheaty2025-12-30 04:34
I dont follow names, but S2 was a big enough disappointment that I never got to s3. I did like the movie.
Maybe I should rewatch S2 but I remember it as just shock and horror without much to say.
yepgeddon2025-12-29 16:24
Don't continue, pretend that the rest never existed. Like Pacific Rim 2, it never happened.
Silvermoon34672025-12-29 18:22
Let me just pile on with "Season 2 is fine anime, it's just not as good as season 1."
Saying season 2 sucks and no one should watch it is like saying no one should watch Ghost in the Shell: ARISE. It's good compared to the other stuff on the market, but people are comparing it to the best stories that have been told in the genre and complaining that it isn't up to par. Tough crowd.
I wasn't even aware there was a season 3 though so I've no dog in that particular fight. I thought season 2 wrapped everything up pretty nicely and felt no desire to have a season 3, personally.
DanielAlves19042025-12-29 18:33
I liked the others, and I think you should go for it, but they aren´t like the first one, sorry.
Srapture2025-12-29 19:13
I thought the rest of it sucked, personally.
Would still say the first season is worth it though.
SonOfJenova2025-12-29 19:54
Since it seems that everyone on the internet is too extreme, lemme give my 2 cents:
Are season 2 and onwards as good as S1? No. Are they as terrible as people make them sound like? Also no.
I'd say go for it and you may end up enjoying them, like I did, even though S1 is still the best.
People make it sound like it was 7 Deadly Frames S3 or Promised Neverland S2, while it was nowhere near as bad as those.
itlloyd__2025-12-30 02:20
As an absolute lover of the first season I tried really hard to like the 2nd season but the philosophy was almost entirely rendered null after the first season. The plot line continued with no backbone for me and I lost entire interest in the series.
the_wheaty2025-12-30 04:24
It turned from twisted philosophy to shock n horror.
To compare it in animation terms, maybe it did go to one frame man on its societal discourse.
I agree that The Internet is probably harsher on it that it deserves, but ultimately it's kind of just mediocre. While I want to give s3 a chance I just don't have the motivation to give another go.
Quinx17552026-01-04 07:46
Definitely recommend giving s3 a chance someday. It's quite detached from what happens in s2 (a new fan could theoretically skip s2 by doing \[s1 > 2015 movie > s3\] and come out fine)
It has a new main cast, but everyone's favorites from s1 still play a major role and the new characters are well executed. A certain annoying character from s2 also mellowed out a lot in s3 and is much more likeable (the character development for that happens in the first sinners of the system movie, but that's optional watching)
flashmozzg2025-12-29 23:50
I personally liked S2 more than S1. S1 had a of, as the kids say, personal "icks" of mine. Anyway, watched them all and never felt like my time wasn't worth it, even if it never reached high enough status to start recommending it to everyone.
Wasabi_Beats2025-12-29 18:20
second season was good, it just wasnt anywhere near the insane high that was season 1. Makishima is one of the best written anime villains for me and he's what made season 1 so special along with the complex relationship between him, Kogami, and Akane.
Ilovepoopies2025-12-29 20:39
First season is peak
SirePuns2025-12-29 20:45
The first season and the movie were honestly pretty good. Though if I were to rate em, then the first season gets first place by a wide margin.
Mister_Enot2025-12-29 11:47
Only in last movie last scene was close enough for this.
IllHoneydew62025-12-29 14:28
It was so good, and such a good parallel to this clip. A great development for Akane's character arc.
A bit of a shame most people won't go past the first season, although understandable.
Knee_High_Cat_Beef2025-12-29 20:00
Season 1 was a master piece, but season 2, 3 and the movies are all really good as well. I thought I wouldn't like them, but I really enjoyed watching the sequels.
Hereva2025-12-29 11:53
How do you judge someone who doesn't feel like they need judgement? Probably why the Sybil System bugged.
MetalDue9202025-12-29 15:50
not really. i think he does feel the need to be judged, but by other people not by a system which takes away people's free will.
in a way he is trying to improve the system by incorporating free will in the judgment as well. that's why his crime coefficient goes down, because he is trying to "help" humanity in his own way. so his aims are completely different from a common criminal despite the result of killing innocents being the same.
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:39
Without going into spoiler territory the answer is even simpler. It operates off baseline assumptions, and not everyone fits the baseline.
Klusterphuck672025-12-30 10:55
I thought it was because the brain jars behind the system want the people that can't be judged to join them?
Burnedsoul_Boy2025-12-29 11:53
I have not watched the series, but man, giving law enforcers weapons that cannot shoot criminals because they are psychopaths feels so dumb. "Watch my criminality rate reach 0% as I am about to kill someone premeditatedly."
Maybe I'm missing something.
Crazy_Guitar67692025-12-29 11:59
[removed]
maddie-madison2025-12-29 12:00
Basically the system is able to detect criminals often before they even act, and is believed to be 100% accurate. The person in this scene shouldn't exist and shouldn't be able to fool the system. But because so much faith is put in the system the guns won't trigger until the system allows it and thus police aren't ever able to kill innocent people.
offoy2025-12-29 12:06
Yeah you are missing watching the series.
ThirdMover2025-12-29 12:31
Yep, you are missing something.
Florac2025-12-29 12:43
Yes, you are missing the fact that it let them shoot somebody with the intent to commit a crime
Mysticyde2025-12-29 13:30
100% missing something. There's a lot more going on.
SinibusUSG2025-12-29 13:40
Gosh, do you think perhaps you are missing something from the show you haven't watched? What would give you that impression?
Tranquil_Neurotic2025-12-29 14:05
That's literally the crux of the show dawg. You get to learn why it is that way and how fucked their society is during the course of the show.
ScaringTheHoes2025-12-29 14:16
Maybe watch the show?
Stag-Nation-89322025-12-29 14:27
Obviously youre missing something if you haven't watched the series lol. This is truly one of the comments of all time
BasroilII2025-12-29 16:42
Well that's kind of the point. In the show, this system has been running strong for some time and crime is virtually nonexistent. People believe in it because it's now the foundation of their entire society.
So when someone comes along and shows a flaw in the system, no one else knows how to handle it.
wolfbagel2025-12-29 11:57
IMO the best scene of the show.
Comprehensive_Fee2502025-12-29 11:59
Sub for this show is amazing. Watch sub.
asc27932025-12-29 12:30
Which show is this one? The movie?
edlike2025-12-29 13:54
This is part way through season 1
naruto10142025-12-29 14:28
Hard agreed. Dub sounds amateurish 🤢
Etheo2025-12-29 17:07
Yeah the sub vs dub in this case isn't even close. Subjectively you can argue preference but objectively he's basically two entirely different types of villains between sub and dub.
gta00122025-12-29 18:40
That VO for the dude is just blah idk how people can enjoy an intense scene with blah delivery like that.
ILoseNothingButTime2025-12-29 12:28
Certain systems like this exist and can also stop you from accessing your own cards or even accounts as punishment when they see you in their surveillance net.
KuroSoretsu2025-12-29 12:30
First season was so peak, i guess second season they switched things up again and didnt stick to the manga or what happened there
C418_Tadokiari_222025-12-29 12:49
I'm pretty sure there is no manga, it was an original production. This and Death Parade are my favorite non based on a manga/light novel/video game productions.
Karukos2025-12-29 13:02
THere is a manga, but it's based off the show.
Biobait2025-12-29 13:03
What happened was Urobuchi stopped working on the show.
DrinkGinAndKerosene2025-12-29 13:04
There is no manga. It's anime original.
Key-Pineapple-12452025-12-29 12:35
Ah psycho pass. It’s been years.
zap19652025-12-29 12:37
Another excellent anime that made the viewer think. Something we don't get in most Western television shows these days.
AnimeFreakO72025-12-29 12:50
I haven't watched this in a long time. Time to go for a re-watch!
-TheManWithNoHat-2025-12-29 12:59
Doesn't the exact polar opposite also occur in the first episode?
A woman is so traumatised and shocked after being kidnapped by a deranged killer that the Sybil system sees her irregular mental state and deems her as a threat
edlike2025-12-29 13:52
Yep. Wild ride that. Watching her hover on the border of apprehend/kill as she tries to cope with the trauma she’s experiencing in the moment. She eventually gets misted.
Edit: I misremembered! See correction below
Forgettheredrabbit2025-12-30 06:51
Wait the victim from the first episode? I thought she just got tranquilized and sent to some kind of care center? Granted it’s been a looooong time so maybe I’m wrong lol.
edlike2025-12-30 13:56
You know what you’re right. I believe im thinking of a victim from a later episode. I rewatched the whole season and most of s2 a few months ago over the course of a few days so I’m sure my memory is blending things together.
After_Poet90862025-12-31 22:09
Yup, the girl from the first episode lives and you get to see her recovering later in the season, it's just a short segment so it's easy to miss
funktion2025-12-29 13:53
Yes. Experiencing trauma can cause your psycho pass to become cloudy.
LazyLich2025-12-29 15:08
Its been a while... but i believe it's because the logic/philosophy/understanding is that even if you don't do crime, mere exposure to it can have an impact on your psyche, and can have a chance to affect you in a way that leads you to be a criminal.
That what the whole idea behind those other unit the cops can lead. That one guy was a cop/detective, but many years on the job tainted his coefficient or something, as o he's at risk.
But yeah. Though it may not me apparent since thats when the audience is learning about/accepting the world's logic, it was probably foreshadowing Sybil's flaws.
ReverseDartz2025-12-29 16:37
> That what the whole idea behind those other unit the cops can lead. That one guy was a cop/detective, but many years on the job tainted his coefficient or something, as o he's at risk.
Same thing happens to the guy that lead that squad too.
Kill-bray2025-12-29 15:17
It's not quite the same thing as that doesn't actually involve an error in the Sybil system it's just that people can change and become latent criminals especially if they suffer psychological trauma.
This sort of means in a sense that everyone is a latent "latent criminal".
sbxnotos2025-12-29 17:56
I mean, if you are kidnapped by a group, for example, and say for some reason someone forgets about their gun and leave at the table, the best chance against a group would be eliminating the threats as fast as you can, reducing the enemy firepower, otherwise, if you only go by self defense you would be facing the entire armed group at the same time and then your gun won't be enough, you are dead.
But all this means that you would be executing people when at the moment you are not at direct risk of being killed, even if not killing them means you will be at higher risk of being killed in the future.
For all this to happen you would need to have a state of mind of a "latent criminal" if not worst.
By our laws it would still be self defense, even if you shot your kidnappers from behind, because, well, they are kidnappers, so the law is pretty flexible there. But for Sybil you are an extremely dangerous individual that should be eliminated.
So in a "fight or flight" scenario, almost every person who chooses "fight" would also be a "latent criminal".
teerre2025-12-29 18:52
This is not true. Case in point: Akane (and basically every inspector)
The Sybil system can really logically evaluate if you'll become a criminal or not. So if "fighting" doesn't actually doesn't cloud your hue, you'll be fine. The kicker is that chances are it will
sbxnotos2025-12-29 19:04
Akane is basically an exception to the rule and other inspectors are trained and prepared for that, and even with all the training, there are several inspectors that ended as enforcers, which are latent criminals.
teerre2025-12-29 19:08
It's only an exception in the numerical sense because it's rare to be that mentally strong, but it's not an unexpected event. It's like saying being very good at table tennis is an exception
SirePuns2025-12-29 20:44
This anime did everything to show you just how flawed the sybil system was. And then it showed you just how corrupt it actually was in its attempt at maintaining its dystopian hold on the public.
SSJ5Gogetenks2025-12-29 13:17
Alex Organ's voice makes me hard.
Rat-at-Arms2025-12-29 13:19
You could've posted this in Japanese instead of the horrendous abomination that is anime EN voice acting.
Tranquil_Neurotic2025-12-29 14:06
Upvoted. Dub for this is ass like in most cases.
darti_me2025-12-29 13:25
This scene genuinely fucked me up. I cannot fully re-watch Psycho Pass S1 simply because of this scene.
All the other deaths before or after felt very disconnected or impersonal (which I think was intentional). I could watch the Dominator implode someone all day or see the gore through out the show but the straight razor just makes you feel that fuck this is deliberate. He was in total control of his actions.
kos-or-kosm2025-12-29 15:21
I was watching it while it aired and dropped it after this scene because of how much it fucked me up. I didn't finish it for years.
BandicootFar41262025-12-29 15:44
Me too, that made me drop it for a while
Bubthick2025-12-29 13:29
I still remember watching this episode. It was such a good cliffhanger, especially since it was the last episode before a few week break.
Going to all the forums and seeing what people discussed and all the theories why Makishima would not be judged by the system.
Ziraelus2025-12-29 14:10
Best scene in the entire show for sure, but the dub is horrible and completely ruins it.
Icaroson2025-12-29 15:51
I agree, the voice acting in English wasn't very good.
DorrajD2025-12-29 14:12
This shit is gonna be real soon. AI profiling is real and is gonna be doing the same stuff as this.
ChinoSenpai2025-12-29 15:20
This is my favorite antagonist of all time on all animes I have watched. very well written 👌
TheBatemanFlex2025-12-29 15:22
These dubs are atrocious. How do yall do this?
MetalDue9202025-12-29 15:48
what a great scene. the fact that his crime coefficient decreases and reaches 0 at its climax almost makes you want to cry.

This is my first time hearing the dub.
It's fine. Not the best out there I've heard, but nowhere near the abomination one would think from other comments.
Etheo2025-12-29 17:14
It's only fine if there wasn't a sub to compare with. I don't usually like to argue sub vs dub but his characterization is so fundamentally different between the two you're basically watching two different villains.
It's not horrible on its own. But given how much fans adored the show I can see why the sentiment on the dub quickly took to the extreme.
BasroilII2025-12-29 17:29
I'm not entirely certain I agree, but only because as someone that doesn't speak Japanese natively it's hard to tell characterization in the same way. The JP actor has a softer tone, but feels similar in the emotion he's trying to convey to me.
The one big difference is the script itself- you can tell the translation team was trying hard to match flaps with the anime and added weird pauses and extra words in that feel clunky:
"I'm going to stand next to this woman named Yuki Funohara, and I'm going to kill her"
vs
"I'm going to kill this woman, Yuki Funohara"
But I can't blame the voice actors there. Thankfully that feels like the trend of desperately matching flaps has waned a bit. It used to be so bad in the 80s and 90s you'd have actors just making random noises to fill a mouth movement.

Damn I usually hate dubs but his voice acting was good.
DanielAlves19042025-12-29 18:34
This scene still lives in my head vividly. The way we fear for the life of Tsunemori´s friend, to then thinking she will be saved, and then...
What a show, what a villain.
Various-Path69952025-12-29 19:43
Is the guy at the start of the clip has the same VA as Loid forger from Spy X Family?
JRPictures2025-12-30 00:12
Yup, it's the same guy: Alex Organ.
TrashEmergency64462025-12-29 19:56
holy that was raw i might have to watch this
hinomarucurrydisc2025-12-29 20:30
Had to take a break from the show after this scene. Really messed me up for a while. That being said, Psycho-Pass is a masterpiece imo
digs44942025-12-29 22:28
I was watching it in the proper order but didn't finish it. Loved season 1 and the movie
Fluffy_Grapefruit02025-12-29 23:18
S1 was so peak

It's bizarre that Akane has absolutely no training for this exact scenario, even though there is a protocol for handling false negatives built into the Sybil system.
What she's supposed to do, according to Sybil's rules, is apprehend Makishima, then chop his head off and drop it off at Sybil HQ so they can add his brain to Sybil's training data.
Instead it's a whole ass conspiracy. All of this could be over if standard inspector training had included how to capture people who show obvious signs of criminal intent, but misregister on the dominators.
...Then again this is the same AI that thinks rape victims should be executed on the spot, so it's really a miracle it ever got past testing. And that's why I don't like this anime, I can't believe Sybil would ever be universally trusted when it's so often wrong.
Silver-Potential45232025-12-30 04:03
should i watch it or not ? how good is it? what is this even about?
Steppewulf2025-12-30 10:06
Should I watch this? Looks really interesting just based on this clip
Odd-Butterscotch-6362025-12-30 13:32
I didn't enjoy the latter season, but the first one was definitely a good watch

My friend, I work in IT/Software. And you would not believe how wrong you are even about people in my industry. There's execs I know that believe that AI is the only truth out there. They might be aware it can hallucinate but they rarely doubt its answers until competing information is put in front of them. And even then question it.
I know a C level whose answer to every quandary in the business is "what did AI recommend?" And yes Chat GPT, not even something more focused.
That said I think you're partly right in that there's a massive gap between the public trust in current day generative AI and the faith Akane had in Sibyl.
Inspectors job is litteraly just to hold the gun and press the trigger when it tell them to, they have no particular combat skill.
Which doesn't even touch how risky Destruction mode is around innocents, but that one always feels like "acceptable losses" mode anyway.
Of course you are right, it leads to situations where they cannot act since they literally don't know how.
An even better example in my mind is that public murder on the streets at one point in the show. Dozens if not hundreds of people witness it but no one acts, because no one can contemplate a world where something terrible could happen and they would need to act.
Tell me you don't know the setting without telling me you don't know the setting.
Your common sense is different from a person living in a world where their decisions are made for them.
She sees his point and took the right step, but she still clings desperately to the old system, so she only takes a half measure.
In still clinging to a proven-failure of a system and lacking resolve and not committing to change, irreversible tragedy occurs.
Could apply this to AI for the future generation as well, unfortunately.
I would have loved for Akane to slowly become the head of the public safety bureau. Working toward bettering the sybil System, but also being a willing ally to it.
The first movie is very good and serves as a direct expansion to the story of the first season.
Haven't watched the third season and other movies yet
One of these days I would like to see an experiment. Take two shows. Gen Urobuchi writes the first season ONLY for both of them. Both shows have at least two seasons. Let them ONLY reveal he wrote the first season for one of them.
See how many people freak out that the writing quality hit rock bottom on Season two for either. I bet the show they KNOW he was on everyone will hate S2, the show they don't I suspect people will be far less critical of. He tends to get overhyped a little, as good as some of his works are.
Maybe I should rewatch S2 but I remember it as just shock and horror without much to say.
Would still say the first season is worth it though.
To compare it in animation terms, maybe it did go to one frame man on its societal discourse.
I agree that The Internet is probably harsher on it that it deserves, but ultimately it's kind of just mediocre. While I want to give s3 a chance I just don't have the motivation to give another go.
It has a new main cast, but everyone's favorites from s1 still play a major role and the new characters are well executed. A certain annoying character from s2 also mellowed out a lot in s3 and is much more likeable (the character development for that happens in the first sinners of the system movie, but that's optional watching)
A bit of a shame most people won't go past the first season, although understandable.
in a way he is trying to improve the system by incorporating free will in the judgment as well. that's why his crime coefficient goes down, because he is trying to "help" humanity in his own way. so his aims are completely different from a common criminal despite the result of killing innocents being the same.
Maybe I'm missing something.
So when someone comes along and shows a flaw in the system, no one else knows how to handle it.
A woman is so traumatised and shocked after being kidnapped by a deranged killer that the Sybil system sees her irregular mental state and deems her as a threat
Edit: I misremembered! See correction below
Same thing happens to the guy that lead that squad too.
This sort of means in a sense that everyone is a latent "latent criminal".
The Sybil system can really logically evaluate if you'll become a criminal or not. So if "fighting" doesn't actually doesn't cloud your hue, you'll be fine. The kicker is that chances are it will
All the other deaths before or after felt very disconnected or impersonal (which I think was intentional). I could watch the Dominator implode someone all day or see the gore through out the show but the straight razor just makes you feel that fuck this is deliberate. He was in total control of his actions.
Going to all the forums and seeing what people discussed and all the theories why Makishima would not be judged by the system.
It's fine. Not the best out there I've heard, but nowhere near the abomination one would think from other comments.
