Original work by Kuzushiro (A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace)
Broadcast tba
One rainy night, Saki is rushing to a piano lesson when she crashes into a beautiful, long-haired girl, dropping her sheet music in the process. Saki stutters an apology, but the girl simply hands back her sheet music and leaves without a word. Saki begins her first day of high school the following morning, only to find the stranger from the night before sitting at the desk next to hers. She learns that the girl's name is Kanon and that she is not quite completely deaf, but very hard of hearing. Though Kanon needs to be close to people to read their lips, she tends to push people away with her icy demeanor. Through one kind gesture, Saki slowly begins breaking down the walls around Kanon, even as she feels something new blossoming within her. Unsure what to think with the staff. Studio is more unknown. Ahren-San director seems interesting.
I really like the manga. I should get back to it.
PsychoGeek2025-12-29 16:15
The fuck is a comptown. Do they keep parading out these no-name studios for yuri to spite me personally?
Quantum_Croissant2025-12-29 16:35
hey, it worked for watatabe at least
elbenji2025-12-29 21:32
watatabe is by a very new studio that wants to focus on yuri, so not really shocking
watanare was also by an unknown studio and thats been pretty much a hyper success
ClemFire2025-12-29 22:00
I hope Lings is able to get more funding after showing off just how much they can do with little. I am very hopeful for the studio’s future works, and hopefully Watatabe S2 when there’s enough material too
GondolaMedia2025-12-29 16:58
Straight out of comptown.

eden_sc22025-12-29 17:47
it's cheap, sadly
elbenji2025-12-29 21:35
you never know, a lot of newer companies have produced some bangers
elbenji2025-12-29 21:35
tbh this seems to be a secondary companies first mainstream work.
The stuff theyve worked on however is nutty: my dress up darling, vinland saga, kaijuu no. 8, spyxfamily
and hey, watanare and watatabe also had baby companies and were amazing
ClemFire2025-12-29 21:58
I saw they worked on Blue Box too which is probably the most direct comparison to Moon and BB looked great, especially in key scenes
PsychoGeek2025-12-29 22:18
being credited for some minor inbetween work does not count as working in any meaningful sense
> watanare and watatabe also had baby companies and were amazing
Completely different situation. Mother was well established - Xebec legacy, had done good work on Fuufu Ijou and that Shota Isekai prior. Lings had been long established as a sturdy support studio - they had done excellent work on Sorairo Utility earlier this year, which was extensively outsourced from Yostar
This studio has absolutely nothing going for it, and going from what Severe_Working_5934 said above, isnt even a real animation studio
IXajll2025-12-29 16:17
Still no word on a release date, not even the year is a bit of a bummer, considering the first announcement was over a year ago. Fingers crossed we'll get it at least still in 2026.
Also not sure how to feel about CompTown as a studio. Migi&Dali was amazing, but that one had GeekToys involved as well, so hard to tell. On the other hand they are relatively new as a studio. Makino Tomoe worked on Aharen-san which was good, but also on a bunch of underwhelming shows as well. Trying to be optimistic here but I wouldn't call this one winning the adaptation lottery exactly.
Severe_Working_59342025-12-29 18:32
>Also not sure how to feel about CompTown as a studio.
They have only worked on 2 shows(With GeekToys) and one upcoming isekai alone. I quickly saw the staff of Migi & Dali and Headhunted and saw that 11 out of 13 EP of Migi was outsourced (10 to hentai studio Seven & 1 to Felix Film) and all EP of Headhunted was outsourced to Jumondou (Ex hentai studio now does normal anime)
In this aspect it dosent look good, most probably they will outsource majority of the episodes so quality will depend heavily on outsourced studios.

Kuzushiro-sensei's "Egatae" just finished its anime run today, and now this gets announced. What a day to be alive!
"The Moon on a Rainy Night" is peak yuri!
IXajll2025-12-29 16:11
This has already been announced back in November 2024.
RGBkano2025-12-29 16:12
Well yeah, but we're getting the teaser visual + staff list this time.

Kuzushiro really woke up and decided to single-handedly carry the industry on their back. The work ethic is terrifying in the best way possible.
Cyrra_2025-12-29 19:01
Four ongoing manga at once, it's ludicrous.
cornonthekopp2025-12-30 07:42
Isn't it closer to 6 or more
Cyrra_2025-12-30 08:08
She has:
*Moon on a Rainy Night*
*A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace*
*Eisei Otome no Tatakai Kata* (her shogi manga)
and now her new manga about two women who made a deal to live together after 30 if they couldn't get married, *30 made Hitori Dattara Issho ni Kurasou tte Itta yo ne?*
Dry-Technology-37482025-12-29 17:09
It's wild seeing the contrast too. Going from the loud, chaotic energy of *Egatae* straight into the quiet, melancholic atmosphere of *Amagoi*. Shows the author's range perfectly.
zairaner2025-12-29 18:21
For more contrast, you can quickly (because its 3 minute episodes) watch through all of [inugami-san to nekoyama-san](https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GR2P14M5R/inugami-san-to-nekoyama-san). She has moved away from it in recent year, but she always feels at her best when doing ecchi-comedy.
Top_Consequence_692025-12-29 17:25
Can confirm on the "peak" status. If the anime captures even 10% of the manga's atmosphere and the way it handles the piano scenes/Kanon's deafness, it's going to be AOTS material.
Hitman71282025-12-29 17:26
Not to mention that was a great Egatae episode today
Second_Sage2025-12-29 16:05
Such a great manga, I'm so happy this is getting an anime. Very curious how they incorporate Kanon's hearing, they could do some really interesting things!
ClemFire2025-12-29 16:06
I am so ready to inject this peak into my veins. If I had to just choose one. This is my favorite ongoing romance manga

Luciannight212025-12-29 16:15
Is this one where they'll actually be in a relationship or is this one where they tease it and do a "will they won't they" dance?
HuTaosTwinTails2025-12-29 16:21
Like a lot of Yuri manga, Depends on how much they adapt
Awful_At_Math2025-12-29 16:25
[The Moon on a Rainy Night]>!They won't. It's really slow, so if you hate those types of series it will be hard to watch. But I can say the progress, albeit slow, feels natural and earned in contrast with other series. So you win some you lose some?!<
Quantum_Croissant2025-12-29 16:25
this is yuri, 'will they won't they' stories aren't really a thing. There are however lots of slowburn stories of friends who slowly develop feelings for each other and then take their time to notice those feelings and then to admit them, before eventually getting together. And this is definitely a slowburn
Zonca2025-12-29 17:27
Its more drama than romance for the early parts of the story yeah, the tension comes only slowly
Ok_Anything86652025-12-29 16:18

It's a compensation for no sequel of Bloom Into You and after struggling with Whisper Me a Love Song
WhichCombination56372025-12-29 16:56
Man, I really want the conclusion to Bloom Into You in anime form. The content we would get in season 2 would pretty much solidify it as the best yuri anime of all time.
Nachtwandler_FS2025-12-29 17:45
Yep, and they can adapt it in like 11 episodes, but no hope for it...
Gyakuten2025-12-29 17:49
It really is a shame how the anime stopped at the exact halfway point of the story. It literally just needs 1 more season... but alas.
Viktorv222025-12-30 12:10
I still have hope and I don't feel crazy.
Yona got a sequel after what, 10 years?
Gyakuten2025-12-30 17:39
I have hope too and want to believe I'm also not crazy lol. Same with (completely different genre, but it's also approaching 10 years) Houseki no Kuni S2 now that I've just finished the manga.
BosuW2025-12-29 18:08
Man if I had my way the play would be on long format. Imagine how peak that would be.
WhichCombination56372025-12-29 18:27
I thought the same. The remaining manga chapters aren't enough for 12 episodes, so they can expand the stage play part and make it have an even more presence in the anime if they wanted to do that.
Quantum_Croissant2025-12-29 18:22
It would solidify itself as one of the best romance animes, even. The lack of a S2 just holds it back
WhichCombination56372025-12-29 18:26
Oh absolutely. For me, it's definitely one of the best romance manga I've read. And I'm a huge sucker for romance.

the manga is only on 12 chapters, so be sure to check out [this translation of the web novel](https://avelilium.com/story-about-buying-my-classmate-once-a-week/) for more of the story
hbmonk2025-12-29 20:06
The web novel is SO GOOD.
SadDoctor2025-12-30 00:46
It's slow burn but really pays off imo. Really focused on the psychology of the characters in a convincingly realistic way.
Cyrra_2025-12-29 19:04
Shuukura's anime, if the rumors are true, would definitely be interesting how they handle the pacing. Because the end of volume 4 would 100% be the best place to end it, but that's a lot of content to go through for a one cour show and the series is so heavy on the two lead's thoughts and trying to figure out the other that it just feels too hard to adapt.
gnome-cop2025-12-29 20:05
I’m not really expecting this to happen but could they get away with a two cour adaptation to end on volume four so there’s at least a somewhat complete story to tell without rushing past the good parts despite how much more content there is?
Cyrra_2025-12-29 20:13
That would be the ideal situation but the odds of winning the lottery are higher than for a yuri anime to get two cours
SadDoctor2025-12-30 00:40
Yeah it's be tough to rush that story, so much of it is about gradually building tension. Cut it down to a just the highlights version and they'd probably come across as maniacs.
Cyrra_2025-12-30 00:46
Well, they definitely *are* maniacs but the fun is in seeing the mental hoops they jump through to justify their depravity.
SadDoctor2025-12-30 00:48
Yeah fair
eden_sc22025-12-29 17:43
eating well but almost never finishing the series for some dang reason, which is really annoying.
Awful_At_Math2025-12-29 16:18
That's the second anime from the same mangaka where the studio decides not to follow their art style. And two seasons back to back. I don't understand, their art, especially the character design, is so beautiful and the studios keep changing it.
Protractror2025-12-29 16:26
Yeah I’m looking forward to the show but they really look different from the manga.
eden_sc22025-12-29 17:46
If I had to guess, I would say it's a budget thing? It's probably cheaper to not have a studio adapt to a particular manga's style since you wont spend as much time making sure your scenes match the manga identically
zairaner2025-12-29 18:07
For mangaka, I somewhat understand it, the same-face syndrome of the author is rather extreme there (where more specifically, every body either looks like a saki or like a kanon), so I understand trying to distinguish them more (also the designs don't feel *that* different, unlike the above visual).
No idea on moon on a rainy night here though.
At least it seems kanon looks consistent across the two shows now.
Cyrra_2025-12-29 19:08
While characters do tend to not be too varied in face shape or body types, I think Kuzushiro plays around with all the other knobs (eye shapes, expressions, lips, hair styles, age related features) fairly well to the point characters can really stand out despite it.
Cyrra_2025-12-29 19:06
I feel like the angle is a bit unflattering (especially to Saki, who we know can look handsome af) so I'll wait to see how other kvs or pvs look, but I am a bit disappointed the colors are the usual washed out ones you see in 99% of anime especially when Kuzushiro's colorings are far more vibrant.
Webknight312025-12-29 16:22
We'll be there.
kaori_cicak9902025-12-29 16:24
Wait this git adaptation too???
Yuri enjoyer truly get blessed with so many anime adaptation
andydivide2025-12-29 16:25
I'm still stoked for this, but am I being too fussy if I say that I think they've ruined the character designs? Like, if I saw this picture and didn't know it was meant to be Saki and Kanon I wouldn't immediately guess that it was them. Kanon is just about identifiable, despite her eyes being the wrong colour, but Saki looks like someone else entirely.
Neidhardto2025-12-30 02:57
Kanon's eye color is kinda inconsistent in the Manga. They're pretty recognizable. Saki could probably look better, but it's just a key visual. Doesn't really mean much until we see what the actual anime will look like.
EmployeeSame2025-12-29 16:33
A bit worry about the studio tho, this the first time i heard about comptown and so far they only had 3 anime
Levait2025-12-29 16:40
This is currently my favourite manga so I'm a bit scared of how well they adapt it but I'm glad that it gets enough recognition to get an adaption.
_Ridley2025-12-29 16:58

mancko282025-12-29 16:59

ClemFire2025-12-29 22:01
If the mangaka nails the ending I would call it the Bloom into You of the 2020s.
This-Opportunity20352025-12-29 17:00
The last time there was a good studio for yuri was bloom into you, we got some good adaptation though but can we get a high profile team just once
zairaner2025-12-29 18:24

Neidhardto2025-12-30 02:59
And Watanare, and Watatabe. We're actually on a pretty good streak. The Roll Over And Die anime might break it however....
zool7142025-12-29 17:02
Knowing their other work is yuri, really gives a different perspective to some of the “yuri bait” in Egatae lol.
But I’m excited for this. I mean we already saw the MC make an appearance in Egatae so we got a glimpse of not only what she’s like, but also the type of situations she ends up in being HOH.
Also, after Egatae, I do hope we get to see a lot more of what it’s like to be HOH. The differences and difficulties in every routine. But also life choices they have to make. While I’m looking forward to the yuri and romance, I do hope we get to know MC more and not just use her disability as a platform for romance. If it’s anything like Egatae, I’m confident we’d get something a bit more deeper than just romance
WednesdaysFoole2025-12-29 23:29
Since I am not hard of hearing I cannot properly judge whether Kanon's disability is handled accurately, but I would say it's not only a platform for romance - you can see multiple ways this impacts their lives, both for the girl who is hard of hearing and for those around her, even outside of the love interest.
I do have other disabilities and I did relate to some moments of frustration for sure. The writing isn't perfect but there's a lot of thought put into the characters and how they approach each other and their lives.
Weak_Season_Of_Anime2025-12-29 17:08
Great manga, if you're here for the romance though it is a slow burn, this series is primarily a character drama focused on the struggles of living with disability and being a closeted teenager. Unsure about the studio though, I'll reserve judgement till we get the PV.
Sedewt2025-12-29 17:16
I can’t believe how many yuri we are getting recently after so much drought
crackfox22025-12-29 17:22

BosuW2025-12-29 18:11
What up with the char designs tho?
ClemFire2025-12-29 22:03
The angle is not doing Saki favors. I remind myself that the first teaser for Anna in The Dangers in My Heart honestly looked quite different from the actual show
BosuW2025-12-29 23:44
That gives me hope. Kanon is aight, but Saki is too beautiful in the manga for her to be reduced to normal bobcut heroine so I really hope they adjust it.
ClemFire2025-12-30 00:12
Seeing these [comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/wqk0no/the_dangers_in_my_heart_new_visual/) again it is crazy where the production ended up.
I agree though, while Saki is always mentioning how beautiful Kanon is which is true, she is really cute herself and her hair feels way more unique than just a bobcut.

Yona got a sequel after what, 10 years?
[](#comfortfood)
- Spring: NinKoro and Rock Lady
- Summer: Watanare and Bad Girl
- Fall: Watatabe and Egatae
Hope that continues!
No idea on moon on a rainy night here though.
At least it seems kanon looks consistent across the two shows now.
Yuri enjoyer truly get blessed with so many anime adaptation
But I’m excited for this. I mean we already saw the MC make an appearance in Egatae so we got a glimpse of not only what she’s like, but also the type of situations she ends up in being HOH.
Also, after Egatae, I do hope we get to see a lot more of what it’s like to be HOH. The differences and difficulties in every routine. But also life choices they have to make. While I’m looking forward to the yuri and romance, I do hope we get to know MC more and not just use her disability as a platform for romance. If it’s anything like Egatae, I’m confident we’d get something a bit more deeper than just romance
I do have other disabilities and I did relate to some moments of frustration for sure. The writing isn't perfect but there's a lot of thought put into the characters and how they approach each other and their lives.
I agree though, while Saki is always mentioning how beautiful Kanon is which is true, she is really cute herself and her hair feels way more unique than just a bobcut.
Damn I remember this lol. Crazy how that worked out.
