Ten years have passed since Nagomu Irino left his home to pursue his dream that ultimately failed. He finally decides to return after hearing that his father—owner of the Kyoto sweets store Ryokushou—has been hospitalized. Worrying that no one would inherit the shop if his father passes away, Nagomu prepares himself to embrace his family's legacy and the art of making sweets.
Unsurprisingly, Nagomu discovers that his father has already chosen a different successor—a 10-year-old girl named Itsuka Yukihira, who was abandoned at Ryokushou by her father for reasons unknown. While she has since become a part of the family and is now the shop's poster girl, Itsuka still longs to see her father and follows all possible clues that may lead her to him. Sympathizing with Itsuka's situation, Nagomu's mother asks Nagomu to act as Itsuka's father, hoping that Itsuka will open up to him and relieve her pain, even if just a little.
Starting on bad terms, Itsuka and Nagomu gradually learn more about each other, realizing that they are more similar than they had thought. Connected by their mutual love for both Ryokushou and its confections, their relationship as child and father figure begins to make lives around them a little bit sweeter.

We've gotten more anime about young adults since then but Deaimon had a nice blend of aspects rather then being focused like some of the others.
And too much drama for this iyashikei fan in particular lol
Fortunately, there were still had a lot of things to like. I really would’ve loved to see [Deaimon - meta spoiler] >!this love triangle between Nagumo, Kanoko and Mitsuru be resolved!<. The latter two had me laughing out loud repeatedly.
I’ve always loved when SOL shows introduce us to various characters and they start to mingle around and meet and bounce off each other. Feel like this show has plenty of that. Not to mention, I feel like this show has one of the most balanced age variation among its characters. They not only have younger kids and seniors in their cast, they also get considerable amount of screen time. And of course, I love the main duo. The show tries to push them to have like a father-daughter dynamic but it honestly feels more like a sibling dynamic with Nagomu being the doting older bro who annoys the little sister lol
The drama is also in good amount. Not too much that it starts to feel heavy but it’s there and also provides some backstory for why certain characters are the way they are. Itsuka’s dad has been the most uneasy to tackle, especially for Nagumo since it’s implied the dad who so easily abandoned Itsuka is Nagomu’s senpai who he looked up to. Doubt we’re getting a sequel but if we do, hope we get more clarity. I don’t think we’ve had a real “bad guy” in this show. Even with Itsuka’s mom, we see she’s just flawed and not exactly a deadbeat. So I’m wondering how they’re going to handle the dad.
And the iyashikei is top notch too. Of course with Kyoto as the backdrop, it’s not difficult but still I really appreciate the atmosphere. The quaint parks and garden to the quiet suburban. This show portrays the calm of it very well.
Again, not expecting it but a sequel would be amazing news
I remember this one for being pretty chill, with Nagomu recognizing pretty much immediately that yeah, of course he's not the successor to the family business, and working there anyway.
It is distressing that this long manga series has not even gotten fan-subbed (other than a tiny bit).
