Jesus Christ we are doomed.
Gintama and Gundam are both owned by the same company and produced by Bandai/Sunrise btw, they don't need to blur this in any way. That's the joke, how it's obviously the RX-78-2 and the blur does nothing. Japan is extremely litigious over copyright to the point where the entire first episode of the Osomatsu reboot is completely gone because of an Attack on Titan reference. If Gintama couldn't use Gundam, this blur would absolutely not stop them from being sued.

How Gintama got away for years with so much it blows my mind. Even the recent Anime All Might and Gonjo are straight up mentioned.

Pretty sure all the Shounen Jump stuff they can use freely since they are also part of Jump. Them Gundam is made by Sunrise which is the same animation studio so they could parody it too.
M8gazine2025-12-30 18:44
Well, a lot of the parodies are about Shounen Jump properties, like the joke about one of the Gintama Movies being a combination of One Piece, Dragon Ball and Bleach ([DragonBleaPiece](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfAhvairlU8)) is possible thanks to that.

Silver balls

Sometimes they don’t. Iirc the producers or whoever had to go apologize to Toei when they parodied Precure (which they then did it again later on in another season).
More like a “we’re Gintama. We’ll just do it and apologize later” kinda thing.

Gundam and Gintama are animated by the same studio, Sunrise
I wonder why the helmet or head blured, is there any secret or It's just for confusion.
But in my opinion, i Don't know :')

Copyright reasons. Can't really sue over mech body cause physics dictate "x" would look like this. Faces are a very Japanese thing and are pretty distinct. It doesn't mean anything to westerners. But the masks would fall under art and would already be a hotly debated topic IRL for samurai and religious fans.

cutting the punchline out is criminal.
Salty1452025-12-30 22:12
I really should get around to watching *Gintama*.
BusinessBaby1472026-01-02 13:51
Heh heh.. me too
Salty1452025-12-30 22:15
The censorship is honestly the funniest part given that Sunrise made *Gintama,* and I'm 99% sure they could have just used the Gundam likeness anyway. The use of the OG *~~Gundam~~* *Gunsam* theme song would have been a bigger copyright violation, but honestly its still funnier this way.

In terms of popularity and culture impact, Gundam is like Star Wars in Japan. Even if you blur out Darth Vader's face you know it's him.
The V-fin color seems to be wrong though, its supposed to be white, not yellow.
