It was a neat year for anime, all things considered. We didn't get too many new smash hits, but continuing shows were exceptional and underrated gems were basically everywhere.
Somehow, though, 2026 is already shaping up to be even better. Most people I see say this will talk about all the upcoming sequels, but has anybody taken a look at the upcoming original anime yet? There are wayyy too many that look not just decent, but *top-notch*.

I only watched three returning series this series, as in series which began before 2025 and had new seasons this year (Arknights, The Apothecary Diaries, and Reborn as a Vending Machine I Now Wander the Dungeon).
But as far as and regarding new series, it was decent, but the selection of new series I watched, including my favorite ones, didn't match or exceed those from either 2024 or 2023. It was better than 2022, but that's a low bar as I found 2022 on average perhaps the worst year for new series in decades.

I don’t know, I’m kinda bored of most stuff just being the same kind of fantasy with pretty uneventful styles outside of the animation being good. I’m glad to see that there’s a growing trend of stepping outside of the anime style a bit to push it forward.
