Mob Psycho miles better
Knuckleheaded-beardo2025-12-30 19:42
How's your advice fair when you've only watched one or two of the three things OP mentioned?
Repulsive_Abalone_692025-12-30 17:46
well based on what you said. You can definitely watch Physco 100. İt just suits your taste.
Repulsive_Abalone_692025-12-30 17:47
Golden Kamuy is really good but it is not that dark. İt has pretty good amount of comedy in it.
Ashteron2025-12-30 18:21
It's darker than Mob.
Local_Pickle_47172025-12-30 17:48
Kaiju probably gets you the best mix of three. Since it has dark and brutal moments, good, animation, and while simple an okay plot, I did like S1 a good bit more than S2 though but that's not to say S2 was bad.
Golden Kamuy is the series I like the most and is brutal and has a good plot, but S1-2 aren't very good looking (they're adequate) and while 3-4 look better they aren't standout. The series also has a bad problem especially early on about skipping manga content to get to arc finales, but it's still enjoyable.
Mob has the best animation of the three though and is the only compete one. Both Kaiju and GK do have final seasons announced though. It's less plotty and more about the characters, but it's got a decent plot for what its worth. GK also does great character work.
If I had to rate how much I liked them per series it'd be
GK > Mob > Kaiju
Fine-Run9922025-12-30 17:48
Golden Kamuy has best storytelling. 2'th i would watch Kaiju No. 8.
Responsible-Smell5612025-12-30 18:17
Golden Kamuy is my preference as it rules very hard.
Calm_Enthusiasm_9682025-12-30 18:26
Is it the military treasury?
Responsible-Smell5612025-12-30 18:27
It's the character writing and the homoeroticism
Calm_Enthusiasm_9682025-12-30 18:28
Ok thanks
Knuckleheaded-beardo2025-12-30 19:41
I watch it for the first thing you mentioned and food as well.
abandoned_idol2025-12-30 18:22
Golden Kamuy and Mob Psycho have great writing and characters. I haven't watched Kamuy yet though, their fans just have a lot of credibility (I should force myself to binge it).
Kaiju No. 8 is apparently at the very bottom when it comes to writing. The story ended abruptly/soon and fans that were previously enthusiastic about the show became apathetic or bitter towards it. I never got around to watching season 2, but it sounds about right judging from the story of season 1.
Brutal?
I wouldn't describe these as brutal.
For gore (blood, meat, whatnot), there's "Chainsawman", "Dorohedoro", and "Dungeon Meshi" (2nd cour).
For screaming and melodrama, there is "Made in Abyss" and "ReZero".
For mental scarring, "Takopi".
The slasher film anime is "Higurashi no Koro Ni" (the bot should reply with a watch guide pretty soon)
Kaiju No. 8 should be fine if you're comfortable with a battle shounen and generic omnipotent protagonists. I wouldn't call it dark nor smart.

I'm not a bot. I guess it kind of looks like that, as I copy and paste my own comment over and over again, but I'm doing this manually.
Anyway, as for the important heads up **for OP** and anyone else who might be interested in watching Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (Higurashi When They Cry), make sure to start with either: the [2006 anime](https://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) (and it's [second half Kai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1889/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_Kai)), the original visual novel, or the manga adaptation.
The 2020 anime Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Gou (Higurashi When They Cry: New), is a sequel to the original story, not a remake. **Don't accidentally start with Gou**, as it's full of spoilers.
(_Note: in most (if not all) regions, the only Higurashi anime on Crunchyroll, is Gou. Also, the original Visual Novel is currently available on Steam, under the title"Higurashi When They Cry: Hou", with the first arc being free to download._).

Calm_Enthusiasm_9682025-12-30 18:25
Seagulls from 8
makinamiexe2025-12-30 18:33
golden kamuy is my favorite manga ever, the adaptation is also pretty good!
BostonSamurai2025-12-30 18:57
Golden Kamuy 100%
beehiveinvader30002025-12-30 19:02
Mob and Golden Kamuy are great
Knuckleheaded-beardo2025-12-30 19:43
Agreed.
shmucky282025-12-30 19:11
Mob psycho, then kaiju, then golden kamuy
bbzef2025-12-30 19:17
mob psycho is the best out of the 3 and Kaiju no 8 is going to have a generationally shit ending so don't even bother with it
Jawce20012025-12-30 19:31
HAH
Knuckleheaded-beardo2025-12-30 19:40
All. But if you want to get your disappointments out of the way first, start with Kaiju no. 8 then watch the other two.
Golden Kamuy S5 is supposed to be the final season. Wait till it wraps up so you can enjoy it wholly.
thatabcdmage2025-12-30 19:56
No idea about Gold Kamuy
From what I’ve heard around, Mob Psycho 100 is a great one.
Will never recommend Kaiju No 8 to anyone. If you want to watch something similar(miles better than this) just watch AOT. Kaiju No 8 feels so empty. Animation is good for some of the Kaiju Scenes but not over the world like demon slayer and plot is very meh. I don’t find the gags also funny.
PracticeOwn23392025-12-30 20:09
You could have watched an episode of each by now and picked
ConceptualWeeb2025-12-30 20:17
All of them are good, they all have their dark moments and are well animated with good plot
GreyEilesy2025-12-31 10:23
Both golden Kamuy and mob psycho 100 are very good, though I only read the manga
