Some anime characters are carried by plot armor way more than we like to admit

I love a lot of these shows, but let’s be honest for a second.

There are characters who should’ve lost, died, or failed multiple times… and only didn’t because the story needed them to keep going.

Not hating, just curious.

Which anime character do you think survived mostly thanks to plot armor?

In the original Star Wars trilogy, R2D2 seems to have plot armor, but it’s also theorized that R2D2 is the actual narrator of the trilogy and the story could not have been told if he was destroyed before the end, so there is an aspect of survivorship bias (the survivors survive in the story because otherwise no one would be able to tell the tale).

If you are a cynic, you could also choose to believe that all narrators are some degree of unreliable and embellish their stories with how close to death they came.

Plot armor isn't a valid critique, how one uses it is. Like, there are plenty of stories throughout the world of successful people, or survivors or whatever that only got by due to a lucky circumstance....real life has plot armor too lol. Most successful people out there have plot armor, as success is talent + luck.

The only case where it is a legit critique is if you constantly back your character's into cases where they are cornered, and the only way they ever get out is due to luck/sudden conveniences. Even that can be interesting (Reiner from Attack on Titan for instance).

I think the more difficult question would be, who doesn't have plot armor than the reverse. Most action MCs have plot armor to some degree, in all media.

Him surviving the micro bombs in his blood stream by electrocuting himself was held enough, but then he has damn near no chakra, keeps fighting and summons his snake to protect him from the nuke? Uchiha who use a pair of eyes that massively drains chakra? Bro fk that bum ass character
