Gotta be my two favourite anime of all time.

Ruronin Kenshin Tsuioku-hen. It's actually like 4 episodes of OVAs but if you want them all together it's like a movie. This prequel story really elevated Kenshin's character in the main series for me.

Chainsaw man the movie Reze Arc. The first anime movie where it made me think of the "absolute cinema" meme after the ending. You may have to watch season 1 of the anime to get caught up on the movie though.

Wow you've genuinely watched the best of animovies. The only thing I don't see is spirited away but you said etc so maybe you have watched it.

I recently watched the 2025 **The Rose of Versailles** movie, and that felt pretty unique. **Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms** also felt unique to me. **To Me, the One Who Loved You** and **To Every You I've Loved Before** movie pair (watch them together) also felt pretty unique.

And may I interest you in **I Want to Eat Your Pancreas** since I'm going to rewatch it for the nth time later today, not sure if you'll think it's unique enough, but it's definitely good.

Blackfox anime movie

The original "Ghost in the Shell" movies from Mamoru Oshii, are still probably my favorite movies of all times. If you like cyberpunk and want to know where Matrix got its inspiration from I can't recommend them enough. (And if you want more in the same style after consider the Patlabor movies.)

The "Garden of Sinner" movies are also an audio visual treat. As well as anything by Makoto Shinkai.

Welcome to the Space Show! - Family friendly movie about kids who save an alien and are taken to the moon as a thank you, but turns out it's a greater adventure after all!

*Garasu no Hana to Kowasu Sekai* \- Two Antivirus Girls who maintain mankind's visual log/data entry long after humanity has died out. They meet another character and discover the truth behind the world they know.

- Hashire Melos! (1992 version)
- Chika Gentou Gekiga: Shoujo Tsubaki
- Doubutsu no Mori
- Kaguya-hime no Monogatari

Gundam thunderbolt. Technically an ona, but in true gundam fashion, they took 4 15ish minute long episodes and compiled a 60ish minute movie. A base level knowledge is only requirement. Zeon and esfs fight each other. Now your all caught up. The best part about it is the banger soundtrack. And the deaths. 'Lotta people died..... but that soundtrack, certified banger. 👌

The first episode of sword of the demon hunter is basically a movie

I've Always Liked You and The Moment You Fall in Love. I like them because they're so normal, which is abnormal for anime movies, as odd as that sounds. A huge portion of anime movies feel the need to include some forced unique hook to try to stand out; someone is blind or disabled or a ghost or time traveling or they turn into a cat and on and on. I've Always Liked You and its sequel are just a nice normal everyday romance movie about normal people. Like a high school romcom or romance series, but condensed into a movie that just focuses on the romance arc. Characters being just regular everyday people living regular everyday lives is quite uncommon in anime movies, and I like these because they're exactly that.

Ill_Championship99022025-12-31 11:34

You listed a lot of Shinkai Movies.

I just want to add '5 cm per second', an early work of him.

I adore it.

Twigling2025-12-31 12:07

Liz and the Blue Bird.

I Want to Eat Your Pancreas

Also, how about a movie **series**? 'The Garden of Sinners' (Kara no Kyoukai). There are ten movies, some as short as 30 minutes, others as long as two hours. A really excellent series that is dark and very complex; it's a mix of supernatural, horror, mystery and some action. Crunchyroll US has them all.

Ok_Trick59162025-12-31 12:53

This sounds good. Will definitely give a try

Twigling2025-12-31 13:03

With The Garden of Sinners, be prepared for a lot of complexity and, **partly** because of this, it's extremely rewatchable. Just to add to that complexity, when watched in release order (which is how it should be watched the first time) the first four movies aren't even in chronological order for the overall timeline of the main story. But that's intentional.

Enjoy! :)

Ok_Trick59162025-12-31 13:29

It's done by ufotable?? Holy!! I have to watch this asap 🔥

Twigling2025-12-31 17:28

Yeah, sorry, should have mentioned that. Relatively speaking it's one of their earlier works, the first movie being released in 2007. Age doesn't matter though, it's still a very high quality series of productions with some awesome animation that wouldn't look out of place today (other than being better than most modern productions).

The movies were released between 2007 and 2013, although the main story movies were released between 2007 and 2009, while the Epilogue movie was released in 2011 and then what I call the 'extras' movies in 2013.
