Demon Slayer movie was really meh outside of visuals
Just watched it *today and all it was, was basically 3 long drawn out fights with constant exposition and characters stating their ideals and beliefs over and over again and talking about how their attacks did damage or how the demon survived their attacks.
The last fight was unbearable that Tanjiro was fighting because the demon had literally a half hour long exposition flashback of his childhood and how he turned into a demon, and this is all in the middle of the final climatic fight of the movie.
And most of the supporting and side characters were barely in the movie or hardly got any screentime. I mean I know these last 3 movies are just the last arc of the manga written in movie form but I don't think this was a good idea outside of animation and well the millions they made off it.
Why do Gen-Z kids like this so much? I heard praise for this for months but outside of animation which I agree was spectacular it was 2 hours and 35 minutes of pure pacing issues and zero plot.

*edit I remember when it was airing, and everyone just thought it was a standard, run of the mill, but we'll executed Shounen. But then episode 19 happened and suddenly everyone and their momma was a fan
DS was fun but IMHO pacing was terrible and felt like a bunch of episodes stitched together and only carried by the animation, sound and feels.
In one hand, I hate that the production committees want to rake in the money by pushing for movies instead of TV.
In the other, I dont think the Reze Arc could have been done any better as a standalone TV season.
So the flashbacks and constant talking shouldn't be a surprise anymore.
Just on its own I don't think most people have a problem with this, but I think a lot of people eventually get a bit tired of Demon Slayer repeating the exact same formula of showing the villain's backstory as they're about to die. Not that this is a hard rule or anything, but I think that having that context before the fight can really do a lot to elevate the drama of the scene. The Zenitsu fight in the movie was one that I think worked *really* well because throughout we understand the significance of it. It's one of the few to really do that in the series, and I can imagine it being a lot flatter if it only explained who this dude was right at the end.
I did genually enjoy the final fight, his backstory, how he was defeated and the fight with Kaigaku. I usually find Zenitsu annoying but some reason I really liked him here.
I thought it looked gorgeous I liked Akaza's backstory and enjoyed Tanjiro and Zenitsu's development and a real nice moment was Akaza acknowledging Giyu given that he had major insecurities regarding his own ability as a Hashira
The only issue I got with that movie, is an issue I already have with some hollywood movies : it's too long to my taste. I wish filmmakers (anime included) manage to tell a story in \~1h45m, but then I'm just an old man rambling.
Also, I don't feel like the community was as positive about this one as we were with Mugen Train. "Overly long but pretty" was basically the agrred upon review.
but what i didn't like was the amount of flashbacks it had
Plus I already know the other characters from the anime, but that’s just what I thought.
Now it doesn’t feel like a movie, just a bunch of episodes stuck together. Ufotable is capable of elevating the animation even further for movies, Fate’s Heaven Feels is a clear exemple but it looked like a season long stitch/recap.
For most of the younger generation, they have been introduced to anime through Netflix and co. For most, it was probably their first one. They like everything flashy bc of that, which is sad. The story of the manga in itself is very flat but the visuals save it as usual.
Shinobu death was ass, because the flashback is so sudden and we’ve never been introduced to her sister or Doma killing her before. They could have built hatred for him through the years, which would have made her losing more crushing. Zenitsu same shit with the flashbacks, too sudden. Akaza even more, there was little emotion for people trying to avenge their fallen colleague and his death was dragged out like crazy. The flaws in the story are evident with this movie, he could have had blurry/very briefs flashbacks that would have made him question himself through the seasons. Even in Mugen Train it would have been a great addition. Getting thrown everything at us in a movie was not the move
Not too deep, but well made.
