Looking for some good anime with Female Mcs. Would highly prefer it to be with no romance (watched to many recently). Preferrably with action but not really needed. Any recs are appreciated

Honestly, I really enjoy Uma Musume, unrelated at all to the games it's been real fun.
ClemFire2026-01-01 01:50
As someone who hasn't watched any Uma Musume is there any romance?
Fulminatus3142026-01-01 01:53
Nope, atleast none that I can remember. it's effectively a sports manga with cute horse girls
Deriniel2026-01-01 02:05
it's just "horse waifus take their names from real racing horses and emulate their exploits in anime style"
ClemFire2026-01-01 02:07
Ah got ya, I heard there were characters who were romantically interested in each other but it sounds like that is more fan canon than show canon

A Place Further Than the Universe has a group of girl and is a slice of life but not a school one, it’s a trip to Antarctica and is often fast paced.
I guess you already know Soul Eater.
In a more regular setup, Shadows House comes to mind and action is irregularly present but common
AlphaWolver2026-01-01 01:51
Apothecary Diaries is really good. I wouldn't say it's entirely without romance, but it's really not the focus.
Smegma-Ballz-2026-01-02 03:51
It’s just very slow burn
mad007din2026-01-01 01:52
Black Lagoon (although two MCs, one a guy)
Frieren (less action; partly slow paced fantasy but extremely good)
Ameku MD (goes like House MD)
Lycoris Recoil (action, apparently really good but it didn't hook me)
Edit: Kill La Kill got into my mind. Action. It has quite a lot of fan service in it but it's actually somewhat crucial to the plot. I really liked it back then when I watched it.
Food for the soul. Slice of life of college students (all girls), quite funny.
Nichijou. Non sense comedy with short sketches and multiple characters but mostly girls. Currently watching. Good for a laugh in between.
In/Spectre: Fantasy/Mystery in real world, but a MC pair although I see the woman as "more MC". Has a little romance between the MC pair but more in a comedy sense. I'm hyped for a third season but we don't know if there will be one.
Bass8172026-01-01 03:59
Love this list! Wanted to add that the creators of Nichijou made another show called City: The Animation that's even funnier!!! It's currently on Prime, I believe :)
SnooWoofers1862026-01-01 10:24
Nichijou is my all time favourite, Hakase Shinonome is the best
Swimming-Elk67402026-01-01 01:52
Railgun? Has some pretty great fights.

I recomnend "Made in Abyss".
Its a Fantasy Adventure Anime about a little girl and a robot that go on an Adventure in a mysterioues, beautiful, fantastical, dangerous and cruel netherworld.
The series is adorable, wholesome, joyful, heartwarming, dark, brutal, sad and heartbreaking.
Its the most adorable, most wholesome show I know and Riko is one of the happiest proragonists I know.
This series has a reputation for being crazy dark and sad and that is not unearned. You will find it on "darkest Animes ever" liests.
Those two sides synergize well with one another quite the emotional Adventure.
The series is also in my opinion visually beautiful and one thing most people agree on is that the music is amazing.

HungryGeneral92282026-01-01 02:33
Probably only one I ever watched is Violet Evergarden. Really nice. Was always avoiding those 🥴
Shirobako - Slice of life office anime original about anime production.
Light romance (Barely noticeable)
86 - Imagine if drones had child soldiers for pilots. MC is a drone operator handling a squad of these soldiers through what I can only describe as a Discord call. Anime ended in at a good point but still an ongoing light novel.
Katanagatari -Don't look anything up about this. Just watch it. Action anime original about hunting 12 swords all across Japan.
Upcoming:
Witch Hat Atelier - Girl becomes an apprentice witch to cure her mother which she accidentally turned to stone.
Moribito. Claymore. Ghost in the Shell. Noragami. Ouran. Princess jellyfish.

Black lagoon has several strong female characters. The main is technically a guy, but revy is practically the main character honestly.
It’s pretty gritty, and lots of action. It’s about a fictional crime city on an island somewhere vaguely in the South China Sea.
The first two episodes are a tad silly, you could honestly skip them and not miss much that you wouldn’t pick up from context later on. But from episode 3 on it’s pretty much foot on the gas the whole time and never lets up.
Voltes-Drifter-21872026-01-01 03:33
The World Witches series (*Strike Witches*, *Brave Witches*)
*Kantai Collection*
*Girls Und Panzer*
*Magic Knight Rayearth* if not into Military Moe
Winter_Coyote2026-01-01 03:40
Bodacious Space Pirates - Space action and pirates. The only romance is between two friends of the main character and it's just for one arc.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica - Magical girl. Psychological. One of the magical girls has a crush on a boy but not the main character.
Most Pretty Cure seasons
Kill la Kill - Out there magical girl with lots of skin.
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Millennium Actress, and Magic Knight Rayearth are all really good but have some amount of romance involving the main character.

So i'm spider, so what?
BusyHoney97672026-01-01 21:41
Beast Player Erin is a great older series that follows the MC growing up. It doesn't have romance and the anime is complete with 50 episodes covers the full story. It's very underwatched.

The only ones I can remember rn are "Frieren" and "The saint's magic is omnipotent"

* Flip Flappers (niche, magical girl, action, pretty colors go whoosh)

Kara no Kyoukai - MC works as a demon hunter. Fully adapted.
Saga of Tanya the Evil - Sociopath salaryman gets reincarnated in alternate WW1 Imperial germany. Light novel still ongoing.
Vivy - Idol android tries to stop IRL terminator. Anime original.
Land of the Lustrous - Steven Universe but it's only gems with depression. Manga already ended and not fully adapted.
Slice of Life
Violet Evergarden - Ex-child soldier becomes a ghost writer. Fully adapted
