Another great year of anime, and so time to get us a nice big list of the best the year had to offer.
Reminder that any anime is fair game as long as it aired new content this year.
Salty1452026-01-01 16:09
I know it's not gonna amount to much, but take my vote and allow me to dream.
Hitman71282026-01-01 16:53
Same
The troubles of having favorites that are catered to a specific niche or get drowned out by more popular picks
lobsterwine2026-01-01 17:53
I expect over half of my list to not make the overall top 10, maybe not even top 20, but that's okay as long as I keep getting series like the ones I love
Freakjob_0032026-01-02 01:38
Same. Highly doubt Ninkoro is making it into the top 10, but dammit, I'm putting it in there. At least Ruri Rocks and Apocalypse Hotel have a chance?
EDIT: to shout out some of the more niche shows I loved this year, my top 10:
1. Apocalypse Hotel
2. A Ninja and an Assassin Under One Roof
* Ruri Rocks
* Rock is a Lady's Modesty
* There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless...
* May I Ask For One Final Thing
* Gachiakuta
* Mono
* Bad Girl
* With You and the Rain
Honorable mentions:
* Detectives These Days are Crazy
* Zatsutabi
* Catch Me At The Ballpark
* See You Tomorrow at the Food Court
* Cultural Exchange with a Game Centre Girl
Final note: Dandadan would absolutely be in my top 10, but it's going to get enough love from everyone else, so I wanted to try highlighting other great shows.
Shimmering-Sky2026-01-01 16:11
Going with the top 10 I settled on for my 2025 anime wrap-up yesterday:
1. Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX
2. 3-nen Z-gumi Ginpachi-sensei
3. Apocalypse Hotel
4. Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow
5. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
6. The Summer Hikaru Died
7. Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray (counting both parts together here)
8. My Dress-Up Darling Season 2
9. Gachiakuta
10. Zenshu
Though that means I'm excluding movies... [](#hardthink)
Queue_Jumping_Quack2026-01-01 16:12
Votes submitted. Lets see how well my ranking matches with the sub overall... Hoping for a high rank for my #1, Medalist.
notanfan2026-01-01 16:12
i forgot which anime release in 2025 or 2024
Frostbitten_Moose2026-01-01 20:32
Yeah, when these things come out, I always want to see if I can find something which will remind me which ones came out this year
octopathfinder2026-01-01 16:14
1. Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc
2. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
3. Apothecary Diaries S2
4. Dandadan S2
5. Medalist
6. The Summer Hikaru Died
7. Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26
8. Hyakuemu
9. Kingdom S6
10. I Have a Crush at Work
notanfan2026-01-01 16:17
can we choose Lotm?
FetchFrosh2026-01-01 16:19
I mean, I can't stop you from choosing it. But I won't be counting it in the results.
notanfan2026-01-01 16:19
bruh
HeavyDrinkers2026-01-01 16:22
Why not?
Edit: Just curious, I don’t think it’s worth of being top 10 btw.
FetchFrosh2026-01-01 16:24
Because r/anime is a subreddit for Japanese animation. We haven't had posts about it all year, so it would be weird to suddenly have it in this poll.
ExpiringMilknCheese2026-01-01 16:19
As long as Takopi is number 1, Idc what the ranking is
BiggieCheeseLapDog2026-01-01 16:22
I hope Orb is able to place as highly as possible even though it was at the very start of the year.
Anyway:
1. Orb
2. Chainsaw Man Reze Arc
3. Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26
4. Cocoon
5. Anne Shirley
6. My Melody and Kuromi
7. Apocalypse Hotel
8. New Panty and Stocking
9. Takopii’s Original Sin
10. NinKoro
SilentApo2026-01-01 16:44
Orb started October 2024, so its a Fall 2024 Anime. I doubt it will count. (Would have put it No. 1 or 2 on my list as well, but didnt because for me its 2024)
BiggieCheeseLapDog2026-01-01 16:59
It counts since it finished in 2025. Same thing with Frieren in 2024 which won and started in 2023.
SilentApo2026-01-01 17:02
So the same season can be in the top list for 2 different years? This feels wrong. Only the season in which it started should count in my opinion. So Anime that started during Winter 2025 - Fall 2025 season. Makes it way more clear what the criteria are.
Psyduckisnotaduck2026-01-01 18:42
In the r/anime awards it’s the opposite - double cour series or series that stretch into the next year are punted to that year. So IIRC Blue Box, Orb, Shangri-La Frontier s2, Danmachi V, and Arifureta s3 are eligible for the 2025 awards, while Chitose in a Ramune Bottle and Gnosia I think will be counted as 2026. Now, the Crunchyroll Awards does function the way you prefer, lol. But I don’t know how the 2024 poll worked, and I think it probably should be consistent between years
CodeNumber2026-01-01 16:22
1. The Summer Hikaru Died
2. Mononoke: Hinezumi
3. Anne Shirley
4. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2

Another great year of anime
Hitman71282026-01-01 16:27
Great taste!
(We also bump into each other on yuri discussions/subs)
ClemFire2026-01-01 16:35
Oh hey! Hope you're doing well. Watched the first three new Watanare episodes yesterday and gonna ring in the New Years with the last two. So far Ajisai is still my best girl
Hitman71282026-01-01 16:36
Yeah, am having a good New Years Day. Hope you enjoy the episodes!
ultimate_placeholder2026-01-01 16:30
r/anime likes yuri (This Monster Wants to Eat Me) more than yaoi (The Summer Hikaru Died). Interesting.
ClemFire2026-01-01 16:36
Well this is just my personal taste, and Shiori from This Monster Wants to Eat Me is my favorite new character of 2025
lobsterwine2026-01-01 17:55
I wouldn't be surprised if I was told the demographic of the sub was overwhelmingly guys, which would probably explain the disparity
dododomo2026-01-01 17:57
I mean, some (not everyone at least) people here tend to downvote and review bomb BL anime. Cherry magic was review bombed and downvoted here and other platforms (to the point that mods had to intervene), the summer Hikaru died is definitely one of the most popular of the year, yet some homophobes review bombed the series on IMDB, myanimelist (they even made Homophobic threads too) and reddit (some used bots to downvote the episode with "marinated raw chicken" scene lol)
I won't force anyone to watch a BL anime or anime with queer contents in general, but if you don't want to watch it then just leave and go watch/read/play something else without having to waste your time with bots, fake reviews, etc 😅
tripleaamin2026-01-01 19:05
Honestly, I would push Dark Gathering fans to watch Hikaru. As the story is more supernatural horror than boys love. I don't watch, let alone read, BL, and Hikaru was interesting enough for me to read before the season came out for it.
Vaadwaur2026-01-01 21:46
One thing I would stress is that they are very different stories, despite seemingly covering similar themes. WataTabe is about depression whereas Hikaru covers a few things, including being gay in a rural town and cosmic horror.
Salty1452026-01-01 16:25
*City the Animation* gets #1 from me so that it can at least get 1 first place finish.
The rest become a little more strategic. My true #2 and #3 aren't gonna need the help, so I'm giving the extra point to *YAIBA* and *Milky Subway*. I'd give them all to *Milky Subway* if I could.
StepujacyBrat2026-01-01 16:26
1. Takopi's Original Sin

4. Apothecary Diaries S2

Movies are the hardest to predict, not sure where CSM actually ends up
DandoloFTW2026-01-01 16:39
Decided to leave off sequels as they get alot of recognition elsewhere.
1. Tatsuki Fujimoto
2. Milky Subway
3. Anne Shirley
4. Apocalypse Hotel
5. Fragrant Flower
6. Takopi Original Sin
7. Zenshu
8. Catch Me at the Ballpark

Thanks for running the poll, really looking forward to seeing how the community votes!
dimyo2026-01-01 17:05
None of these are in my top 10, and that's great! Very varied year.
Nachtwandler_FS2026-01-01 16:41
It was hard to choose anything below TOP-3 but sent mine.
SilentApo2026-01-01 16:41
This year of Anime left me quite disappointed, only 8 shows scored a 7/10 or higher on my personal rankings:
1. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 8.5/10

3. Secrets of the Silent Witch 7.5/10

Trust Marin Kitagawa and wear bunny- I mean, like what you like
DrStein10102026-01-02 05:25
This is the most Yuri-fan list I think I've ever seen.
NoelHeapsbyte2026-01-02 10:41

arthurvc882026-01-01 16:46

10 - Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26
Wish there was also space for This Monster Wants to Eat Me and The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity :(
ClemFire2026-01-01 17:09
Curious if you like Ave Mujica more than MyGo! MyGo more suited my tastes but one episode of Ave Mujica was super exceptional for me and made sure it was in my top 10 for the year
\[Ave Mujica\] >!Uika's monologue. Went into the show thinking Sakiko would be the saddest girl but it ended up being Uika for me.!<
arthurvc882026-01-01 17:36
I've put both shows on the top three of their respective years in my lists, but I think I've liked Ave Mujica a little bit more because all the psychological horror (?) vibe it had in some episodes. I would never have guessed they would take a bold direction like this in a cute girls playing musical instruments 😅 The episode you've mentioned was also a highlight for me, I remember yapping non stop about it to a friend that doesn't even watch anime when it was released lol
ClemFire2026-01-01 18:20
Ave Mujica really earned its psychological tag and its opening is quite fitting in that regard.
tripleaamin2026-01-01 18:46
While Ave Mujica was very intriguing. It felt a bit rushed at times.
I would put MyGo & BanG Dream S3 over it.
Broad_Acanth2026-01-01 23:11
Shoshimin and Takopi mentioned, some good taste right here.
StrawSolider2026-01-01 16:50
Probably the easiest time I had choosing at top 10 lol. I didn't even pick anything from Fall 2025 cause that season was so dry lol
1. Orb
2. Apocalypse Hotel
3. Ave Mujica
4. Dress Up Darling S2
5. Ruri Rocks
6. mono
7. Shoushimin Series S2

detarameReddit2026-01-01 17:07
This year was definitely a good year for anime, even though I didn't watch many seasonals. Plenty of good sequels, and some great non-sequels too.
1. Apocalypse Hotel
2. Takopii no Genzai
3. Gachiakuta
4. Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray
5. Spy x Family Season 3
6. Dandadan 2nd Season
7. Boku no Hero Academia: Final Season
8. Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite
It's unfortunate that I cannot vote for To Be Hero X, but I guess that is how it is on this subreddit, so I really can't complain. If I could have voted for it, I would have probably placed it 3^(rd) on my list.
zairaner2026-01-01 17:11
Deciding between Takopi and medalist for #1 will be soooo hard.
HakumeiJin2026-01-01 17:13
Don't usually think too hard about rankings so had to write what seemed best from the year down to decide which means I may as well post them. In reality One Piece is definitely top3 and might even be top1 for me with the aired content this year rules but may as well add it at the end with less points since I assume most won't consider it.
1. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto
2. Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru
3. Dandadan
4. Rock wa Lady no Tashinami Deshite
5. Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai
6. Gnosia
7. Grand Blue
8. SpyxFamily
9. Silent Witch
10. One Piece
Vsifsz2026-01-01 17:14
I hope Rock is a Lady's Modesty gets in and Medalist places well.
Humg122026-01-01 17:14
I prefer to binge-watch so I haven't watched much of the Fall season yet, but here's my list:
1. Re;Zero

5. Apothecary Diaries

7. Medalist
8. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
9. Takopi's Original Sin
10. Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze-hen
It was a good year, some of my other favourites barely didn't make the list, so here's some honorable mentions:
- Turkey

- 2.5 Dimensional Seduction
- Ruri Rocks

It's a shame that not many people have seen 100m. It was my favourite anime by far.
BaytaCosmico2026-01-01 20:34
It didn't get a theatrical release where I live and only just came out on OTT. Will be watching soon for sure.
Drittenmann2026-01-01 17:30
i think you should have made a choice table with this year's animes instead of putting text box because if someone writtes it differently you will have a bad time sorting it out
FetchFrosh2026-01-01 17:51
Tbh next year I'll probably do that since the possibility space is only like 300 anime.
DanielTeague2026-01-02 00:04
Ah, yes. My favorite anime this year: CITY THE ANIMATION/City the Animation, CITY, City.. City is a weird word now.
Freakjob_0032026-01-02 01:37
Semantic satiation. When you say/see a word so many times, it loses its meaning.
SSjjlex2026-01-02 02:56
Fittingly semantic satiation is a word that is very prone to this feeling. The fuck is a sayshayshon anyways
Freakjob_0032026-01-02 03:04
Yup, I'm fairly certain they chose it just to fuck with you when saying it. Only half-joking.
Related, did you ever realize the word bed looks like a bed, with a headboard and footboard?
Salty1452026-01-02 13:52
Or better yet:
CSM, CSM Movie, CSM Reze, CSM the Movie, CSM the Movie - Reze Arc, CSM the Movie: Reze Arc, and all those same variations but with CSM spelled out as Chainsaw Man

* chainsaw man movie
* Link Click Bridon arc (it's a donghua, so I doubt it counts)

Out of curiosity, how will Dr. Stone be tallied for this since two seasons aired this year? Will both count toward the same tally or will they be split?
FetchFrosh2026-01-01 18:30
One tally. If someone votes for both it'd just be one vote.

TheDuckAvenger2026-01-01 18:32
I didn't watch that much stuff this year, but cutting down to a top 10 is still tough. In the end I settled on this for my ballot:
1. See You Tomorrow at the Food Court
2. Apocalypse Hotel
3. The 100GFs Who Really x5 Love You S2
Ranks 4-10 I'll just list in alphabetical order as I'm not 100% on their relative positions.
* Chainsaw Man: Reze Movie
* Medalist
* Ranma 1/2 Remake S2
* Sanda
* The Summer Hikaru Died
* Takopi's Original Sin
* This Monster Wants to Eat Me
Honorable mention to my last cut from top10: The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess, which I feel got a bit overlooked this season.
I have yet to watch Fujimoto 17-26 which stands a real chance of breaking into top 10 (speaking as a filthy source reader), but there's one Fujimoto adaptation in there already, so no big deal.
Psyduckisnotaduck2026-01-01 18:48
Fingers crossed for Ruri Rocks, all the yuri, and Apocalypse Hotel. Medalist deserves to make top ten, also. Swear to Haruhi if y’all put Solo Leveling top 5, I will be praying for your descent to the HFIL.

5. My Dress Up Darling S2
6. Rock is a Lady's Modesty
7. Zenshu
8. Gnosia
9. A Wild Last Boss Appeared!
10. Solo Leveling S2
Honestly, top 5 could have been easily in any order, I adored all five shows for different reasons.
Honorable mentions: Turkey: Time to Strike!, May I Ask for One Final Thing?, Lycoris Recoil shorts, The Dark History of the Reincarnated Villainess, and Arknights: Rise from Ember. Special nod to To be Hero X, which isn't an anime, but would have ranked high on my list if it were.
On the watchlist: Ave Mujica, Clevatess, Takopi's Original Sin, The Summer Hikaru Died, Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, and Sanda.
Watchlist clears: Fate Stay Night Heaven's Feel movies, Fate/Zero, Fate Apocrypha (discovering the fate series late last year sent me down a rabbit hole...).

welcome to the rabbit hole! hope you'll join us for Strange Fake this season! (also I'd say Emiya Gohan is super worth checking out, and then there's the Prillya series which is definitely way more niche and has its fair share of certified anime weird moments, but is honestly pretty good if you don't mind that)

A fun year for anime, even if the highs weren't quite as high as last year. Ranking only series, because I haven't gotten to this year's movies yet, here's the top tier out of the 100+ series I watched:

When Wind Breaker Season 2 came out I liked the cover image and thought it looked cool so I'll watch it as I didnt even know what the anime was about. I have never watched an anime which I almost dropped halfway and later gave it a 10/10 masterpiece.

I only finished watching two anime of 2025. Everything else I dropped. Also, everything else amounts to only a handful of anime.
Y'know, the Blu-ray will always have the best version of any given anime, so I always wait for them before watching. Streaming quality is garbage anyway and many titles get censored or they redraw parts for the Blu-ray to not be awful quality.
That being said, my vote goes to the second Mononoke movie.

Very enjoyable year for anime. Biggest surprise was probably wandance for me, first 2 episodes didn't really grab me, but as the season went on it just kept getting better, just a bit unfortunate that the animation couldnt match the highs if the story. Hikaru was also very engaging, one of the few "horror" anime that atually made me a bit uneasy, grreat art also. Reze arc was obviously amazing, rewatched it the moment i came out on streaming and it was just as amazing as in the theaters. MDUD had incredible animation & and excellent story, i'm only hoping the anime expands on the ending as the manga had to be cut short due to the author's health :(

This was hard. I really wanted to include Mangaka, KimiKoe and Silent Witch as well. Plus, my 3, 4, 5 & 6 are actually quite close together. Just felt like rewarding Watatabe for taking on such a heavy subject and doing it so much justice.
Edit: Just realised I missed MHA since I was only looking at completed anime and I'm yet to finish watching its finale. It should probably make that middle of the pack tight race, but I'm going to leave my vote unedited because I'm sure it'll get plenty of other votes than mine and I want to rep the more unrecognised shows.

tbh gnosia and hikaru are both second place, si-vis appeals to me specifically so it's correct at 4 even if nobody agrees, and then the others are all fairly equal.

Ooh, time for nitpicking my taste! Part of my brain feels like I leaned towards second and third seasons too much, but I loved the seasons, damnit! Oh lord, and 2026 is probably going to be even worse, if half the shows I think will come do make it.

I love anime, I still browse this subreddit to see what Anime's are up and down. I'm sure it's been a big year! And there were a lotttt of non-action series that really popped off, which is right up my alley...
Unfortunately, I just didn't bother picking them up. I've genuinely only finished 6 shows this year. Can't believe it was only 2024 when I finished 83 Anime's (Seasonal and Not), and 30 of them is in 1 month...
However, despite this, I've enjoyed my number 2-6 shows I've watched. It was definitely of quality. But... that Love is War special was SOMETHING.
THAT was Love is War. The magic was still there. I laughed so much and enjoyed the heartwarming moments between the two and their amazing chemistry. Yes, I was a bit cornered to read the manga when the announcement was up, but WOW, that Anime adaptation was AMAZING.

I tried to put new anime on the top so they'll get a boost!
My list:
1. Okitsura:
One of those educational anime focused on Okinawa. I got to learn a bunch of new things and I really enjoyed all the characters. I realised how much I've been missing on learning about this part of Japan. Don't expect Sakuga, but it's decent anyways!
2. Kawloon Generic Romance
A fantastic sci-fi mystery. The pacing is quick but still very understandable. As an anime only it didn't feel too fast. I can't even say why I love this anime so much because it's all spoilers. Everything will be revealed so have faith in the mystery!
3. Medalist
I didn't know Engi could do it. Great sports anime. I think many people have spoken about this one more in depth than I could.
4. Witch Watch
This one really reminded of older anime in a good way. A nostalgic hit that's still fresh and good. The Dub was really funny too!
5. MHA Vigilantes
I like Vigilantes more than the regular show but maybe it's because of the smaller scale of it. On the streets regular heros are more interesting in my opinion.
6. Apocalypse Hotel
If you haven't seen it you need to now! Nicely animated show that's nearly episodic but still builds on each episode. Reflective and funny.
-- sequel anime
7. Aharen
Aharen is one of my most favorite anime ever. It's one of the rare anime where the lovable goober male MC is the real catch. He's just so sweet and I love this couple. I need more characters with big imaginations.
8. Apothecary Diaries
Jinshi. Maomao. Two elite reasons that need no explanation.
9. Dan Da Dan S2
Another goober couple paired with fantastic animation. Okarun. Momo. Two elite reasons that need no explanation.
10. Spy Family
I love Spy Family so much. Anya is one of my favorite anime children that actually acts her age without too much wisdom. Loid got good development and good things are working for Yor. I don't mind the more slice of life parts because Anya is such a goober.🥜
Due to life stuff I missed most of Summer and Fall so my list is mostly Winter and Spring Anime.
Special Mentions: My Dress Up Darling, DS: Infinity Castle, Ninkoro, Sakamoto part 2, Mono
I think I just finished Moonrise so I could see the OP over and over because the story was just the definition of Okay.
AguyinaRPG2026-01-02 04:21
I only had six entries to put in - which admittedly is a lot better than I've done in prior years lol.
You did a points-based system for the vote, but why not do ranked choice?
noxnoctum2026-01-02 04:22

My top three favorites were Leviathan, Lazarus and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity - which probably won't rank very high in the survey considering they seem to be underwatched or not well received on this sub, but I really enjoyed them. It'll be interesting to see if they score higher than I expect.

Reminder that any anime is fair game as long as it aired new content this year.

(We also bump into each other on yuri discussions/subs)
I won't force anyone to watch a BL anime or anime with queer contents in general, but if you don't want to watch it then just leave and go watch/read/play something else without having to waste your time with bots, fake reviews, etc 😅
The rest become a little more strategic. My true #2 and #3 aren't gonna need the help, so I'm giving the extra point to *YAIBA* and *Milky Subway*. I'd give them all to *Milky Subway* if I could.

* Chainsaw Man: Reze Movie
* Medalist
* Ranma 1/2 Remake S2
* Sanda
* The Summer Hikaru Died
* Takopi's Original Sin
2. This Monster Wants to Eat Me
3. Umamusume Cinderella Grey
4. Secrets of the Silent Witch

A healthy mix of sequels and continuations if I do say so myself

8. gundam gqux
tbh gnosia and hikaru are both second place, si-vis appeals to me specifically so it's correct at 4 even if nobody agrees, and then the others are all fairly equal.

6. There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless...
2. Apocalypse Hotel
3. Call of the Night Season 2
4. My Hero Academia Final Season
5. Witch Watch
6. City The Animation
7. Apothecary Diaries 2nd Season
8. Dandadan 2nd Season
9. Bang Dream Ave Mujica
10. Demon Slayer Infinity Castle
Honorable Mentions: Gachiakuta, Food for the Soul, Silent Witch
My list:
Favorite anime OP: [Moonrise ](https://youtu.be/J6lHlq9WKqM)
I think I just finished Moonrise so I could see the OP over and over because the story was just the definition of Okay.
You did a points-based system for the vote, but why not do ranked choice?
