Animes about being in a cult

Ive seen a couple fan animations on tiktok about cults recently, and I was wondering if there was an anime with a similar theme to cult of the lamb?

Ive been searching for YONKS and I just cant seem to find anything that fits what I want in the cult theme

Kamikatsu starts with the MC in a cult before it goes off the rails to isekai land.

Pahavara2026-01-01 19:59

How people behave in that isekai world does feel like being in cult to be honest.

Victorvonbass2026-01-01 20:11

BEFORE hes isekai'd hes in a cult

abandoned_idol2026-01-01 17:12

"Fumetsu no Anata E" has a cult, though with supernatural elements, and the modern cult is only featured in the 3rd season.

"Orb: On the Movements of the Earth" isn't really a cult, but I love to jokingly call the good guys the "Cult of the Sun". Them's some crazy ba'tards I tell ya.

HarpCleaner2026-01-01 17:23

Are you meaning the Island's inhabitants?

kazuyaminegishi2026-01-01 18:02

Yes. Shinsenkyo is just a sex cult at its core.

JustOrdinaryUncle2026-01-01 17:28

Mob Psycho 100% have something about cult on its later episodes.

fer_sure2026-01-01 17:31

I'd argue the 7th Division in Golden Kamuy is pretty cultish.

There isn't an anime purely about cults. You might have some episodes about cults in a series but that's about it. If you are into manga then there is Believers by Naoki Yamamoto. I believe they adapted it into a live action movie recently but it is Japanese release only I think.

Not the anime, but you can know what it's like being in a cult by joining the *One Piece* fandom /s

RockoDyne2026-01-01 18:00

It's probably not exactly what you're think of, but give Mawaru Penguindrum a shot.

snailtray2026-01-01 18:02

I dont really think there will be a comprehensive anime about cults since they do hold their own proclivities. Such an anime would be seen as instructional and thus deemed bad. Either from the productionland or from the buying/translating land.

Try higurashi no naku koro ni.

You will find elements you are looking for and then some.

Kiriijou2026-01-01 18:50

As an important heads up, **for OP** and anyone else who might be interested in watching Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (Higurashi When They Cry), make sure you start with either: the [2006 anime](https://myanimelist.net/anime/934/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni) (and it's [second half Kai](https://myanimelist.net/anime/1889/Higurashi_no_Naku_Koro_ni_Kai)), the original visual novel, or the manga adaptation.

The 2020 anime Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Gou (Higurashi When They Cry: New), is a sequel to the original story, not a remake. **Don't accidentally start with Gou**, as it's full of spoilers.

(_Note: in most (if not all) regions, the only Higurashi anime on Crunchyroll, is Gou. Also, the original Visual Novel is currently available on Steam, under the title"Higurashi When They Cry: Hou", with the first arc being free to download._).

What's the best chapter in the visual novel iyo? I'm reading chapter 1 rn, it's really good.

n080dy1232026-01-01 20:04

Meakashi (Chapter 5) is my personal favorite.

Consistent_Case13222026-01-01 20:17

Don't tell me because I want to completely avoid spoilers, but I'm pretty confident it's the one with the protagonist on the cover. At least a male character with the same hair color as the protagonist. Also it has been at the top on every tier list I've seen, so it must be good. Dw I've been really careful with spoilers, I don't know anything.

n080dy1232026-01-01 21:50

The covers vary depending on the release, like the original version has Rena on 6/8 of the covers, with two others on other covers but no guys. For the the Steam release (sometimes labelled as Higurashi Hou, not to be confused with Gou the anime sequel lol) the oen you're thinking of is Tsumihoriboshi, Chapter 6. And yeah Meakashi is 5, I've actually only watched the anime so I forget the exact order after the fiurst 3 arcs a lot.

Consistent_Case13222026-01-01 20:24

Meakashi is chapter 5 on steam

Kiriijou2026-01-01 20:21

I haven't finished the VN yet, but based on what I have read (and watched in the anime adaptation), it's probably Meikashi-hen (though I'm also personally quite fond of Tatarigoroshi-hen too)

timpkmn892026-01-01 22:05

>Such an anime would be seen as instructional and thus deemed bad. Either from the productionland or from the buying/translating land.

Yu-Gi-Oh GX of all things had an entire story arc about a cult taking over a school

It's not a forbidden topic at all

Technical_Maybe_27602026-01-01 18:45

There's some cult theme in Shinreigari: Ghost Hound, but the anime is mostly about the astral projection and a murder that happened in the past and how some kids discover the town folks secrets.
