A GALAXY NEXT DOOR
HAIKYUU
A SILENT VOICE
If anyone can vouch for any of these, please do!! it would help me a lot in deciding what to check out next :D

And to your watchlist I can give my thumbs up to everything, except BUNGOU STRAY DOGS, because I haven't seen that one.
Check out the first episode of Frieren - it's one of my favourite first episodes ever. If you like it continue with that.
Frieren. (Slow 4 episode prologue, accessible after the prologue)
Haikyuu (takes a few episodes to hook the audience, but BOY does it hook. That said, the anime is long, so consider pacing yourself here)
A Silent Voice (movie, throat might hurt after crying)
Are the good ones.
I am UNFAMILIAR with Horimiya, Bungpu Stray Dogs, and A galaxy Next Door. I'll let someone else vet/denounce those
The remainder you can just forget about. Solo Leveling has animation and music in case you don't need characters, story, nor critical thinking of any kind. It's more or less another Blue Lock.
And I wouldn't describe 86 as well written, I was so apathetic to the "emotional" scenes. "Oooooohhhhh, so sad!". I cry easily btw.
If you're up for MORE shows, you can try "Dungeon Meshi" and "Medalist".
Another big and renown sad/tragedy bait experience is "Clannad" (fairly dated adaptation at this point though, it's an old anime). Clannad is a game develpped by "Key", and anime adaptations of "Key" games are all sad/tears simulators (some people justifiably criticize them for being artificially sad). If you want to dive yourself into Key, just make sure to watch the older entries first (I can't vet the newer ones): [All Key's anime works - Interest Stacks - MyAnimeList.net](https://myanimelist.net/stacks/29208)
"Medalist" makes you cry on episode 1, so that one is fast to get into. And constructive!
If you want more anime for crying on purpose (mmm, tears), I'd recommend the first 2 episodes of "Ousama Ranking" as well. **sniff** I'm not crying, I got over it. After that, the anime is quite decent and very well animated (I love it). **sniff**
A movie that both is sad and has "Final Fantasy Tactics" character designs is "Maquia".
It's ok if you don't want to watch any of these, I just find responding to prompts fun!
Edit: The tone is light hearted
Both Kaiju no.8 and solo leveling are good entry into serious action anime.
Erased is good mystery entry anime, it was my first mystery focused anime. left a good impression but i don't recall it having a pleasent ending, so i never rewatched it.
Bungo Stray dogs is great but i don't think it's a good entry. I've seen people giveup after first few episodes.
Horimiya is meh for intial romance anime. It's really well done but it's great after you watch some other romance anime.
These are my personal suggestions you can add to your watchlist:
Death Note: little old but good entry anime, since you havent explored this genre you can try first 2 episodes and drop if you are not hooked. i believe most people get hooked by then.
Fruits Basket: Honestly changes my views on shoujo anime, only after this did i truly stated watching anime without much prejudice (not that it always went well)
Black Clover: Try bearing the voice of MC for first few episodes, if you could do that you'll def'ly enjoy this.
Sword Art Online: This is not a great anime, but it's having good plot and heavily influenced me as a newbie into anime.
GTO: This is very old animation and i had to force myself to try it first, but 2 episodes in and i binged the rest in 2 days. really good, even tv drama is made out of it i think.
Here’s more to add to your list:
The Apothecary Diaries
Overlord
The Rising of the Shield Hero
Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill
March Comes in Like a Lion
Your Lie in April
Welcome to the Ballroom
Demon Slayer
My Hero Academia
Blue Period
Parasyte: The Maxim
My Dress-up Darling
That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime
Golden Time
Highschool of the Dead
ReLIFE
Frieren is very very good, but not super action heavy. If you like it, check out Violet Evergarden as well.
Bungou Stray Dogs has more action, I enjoyed it but it's not super popular I don't think, or at least I don't notice people talking about it all the time.
Solo Leveling is one of the higher quality "protagonist is completely overpowered compared to everyone else" stories. If you like it there are several other entries in this genre.
I feel I should lobby to add Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood to your list. Maybe Yona of the Dawn as well.
I didn't much like 86 either despite it also being something that checks most of my boxes. Idk if it's the characterization or the writing.
Girls' Last Tour
Odd Taxi
Bocchi the Rock
Medalist
Takopi's Original Sin
Death note
Future diary
- to be hero x (get past ep. 3 and you'll understand, anime of the year IMO) and most beautiful. style and insane choreography
- my hero academia (especially this final season)
- Sakamoto days
- gachiakuta
- call of the night (hard dope style and soundtrack)
- lord of mysteries (hard dope)
- saga of Tanya the evil
- super cube
- Shangri-la frontier
there is more, but that's a hard dope heavy list. visually all of them are awesome and I would argue all are worth watching for story. some for sure more than others. but all worth it.
If you liked My Hero Academia, I highly recommend Hunter x Hunter.
More recs:
-The Eminence in Shadow
-The Irregular at Magic High School
-Dr. Stone
-Spy x Family

Anime Movies
-Howl's Moving Castle
-Summer Wars
-Belle
-Your Name
-Bubble
Kaiju No.8 (fun monster battles and comedic)
Frieren (one of the best fantasy shows and will hit like an emotional truck)
Summertime Rendering (Interesting mystery and supernatural) Also recomend Re Zero another series.
Bungou Stray Dogs (Supernatural powers and detectives vs other organizations)
Solo Leveling (Power fantasy with overpowered main character for the action)
Haikyuu (Volleyball sports anime with a focus on teamwork)
I can give you more depending what genres or type of series you are interested in and check out that video.
you will appreciate all anime alot more after watching it
A Silent Voice
Erased
Summertime Rendering
P.S: i haven't watched the other ones. Only these 3 which i liked a lot.
The movies **Your Name** and **Weathering With You** are both recent and both very much worth watching.
Three recommendations based on your list:
If you want to try science fiction that may be more accessible, try **Planetes**, which is a fairly hard and realistic near future science fiction story that starts out with funny office humor but evolves into something more like a political thriller as it goes, with a romance subplot.
**Itakiss** is a romcom that starts out as a silly high school romance, moves into college, and then later in life, getting more serious as it goes.
**My Happy Marriage** is a romance set in a fantasy version of Japan with magical powers. It's fantasy but not overwhelmingly so.
To throw a couple other random recommendations out: Pluto and Monster. They are slower drama/mysteries but some of the best “what does it mean to be human?” themes I’ve come across.
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood
Takopi's original sin
Grave of the fireflies (extremely sad movie)
Your name (Movie)
Your lie in April
Spirited away (movie)
Naruto
One piece
Attack on titan
Death note
