Let's talk about music in Anime!
Hey Guys, Let's talk about music in Anime! Talk about Openings, Endings and Soundtracks etc. basically everything which is related to music and Anime. Which Openings and Endings are your favourites or what band do you often listen to which produces Anime music?
What Anime handled music, soundtrack, opening and ending best in your opinion that you would consider them 'Masterpiece' because of Music?
For me it's 'Your Name' and 'Chainsaw Man Reze Arc'. Both of these movies handled music so perfectly.

To me the best composer to actually made music for anime has been Yoko Kanno, with Joe Hisaishi and Hiroyuki Sawano right up there.
On the other hand, Toradora has good soundtracks, but its openings and endings are better imk
Maybe Rurouni Kenshin, but Kaguya-sama also fits this. I said its soundtracks are vastly better than the op's+ed's, but those are very good too. I'd also Karekano and maybe Grand Blue too
Generally a big fan of synth/techno to help highlight intensity.
I imported the official release on CD and it has become not just my favourite OST in anime but top of the pile across any medium.
That's a lovely piece, and definitely sets the tone well as the opening track. As well as that one, Ep 1 has two of my other favourites. Hazumu Kokoro (the piano-driven piece when Yuu and Chi emerge above ground) is beautifully elegant, and Seijaku no Tabiji (the outro music right at the end of the ep) really encapsulates the feel of the show.
Beautiful music all through the show though, and worth anyone listening to.
Endings: Sister by WON( the too perfect saint), Re:frain by aimer (After the rain), Hebi by Yorushika (Orb on the movements of the earth), no man's world by Otoha( Dr Stone S4 part 2), Lily by Reina ueda( This monster wants to eat me) ,Color by Yama (SpyXfamily s1 part 2) and Oz by Yama (Ranking of Kings)
Favorite Band: Yorushika
Artist: suis from Yorushika and Uru
The dangers in my heart s1 and s2 handled everything so perfectly like violet evergarden, both the soundtracks brought tears even though the situations were complete polar opposites
- Flyers by Bradio (Death Parade)
- Like a Flower by Japanese Shakira (Apothecary Diaries)
- Hey Kids by Oral Cigarettes (Noragami)
- Ao No Kirameki by Spica (Dress up Darling)
Favorite ED:
- Shiko No Uta by Nujabes (Samurai Champloo)
- Zaki by Zutomayo (Chainsaw Man)
- Call of the Night by Creepy Nuts (Call of the Night)
Gintama and Sailor Moon have a ton of “within the show” music pieces that accentuate the funny and sad and exciting moments
I also listen to The Apothecary Diaries Opening 1 and 3.
🙌
Favourite openings are: Golden Kamuy OP 2 and OP 4, D.Gray-Man OP 3, Gintama: Yorinuki OP 5, Made in Abyss OP 2, Ameku Takao no Suiri Karte OP, Tales of Symphonia the Animation OP 3, Pet OP, Umineko no Naku Koro Ni OP, Mobile Suit Gundam 00 OP 2, Darker than Black OP 3 and some other openings I've probably forgotten.
Favourite Endings are: Gintama ED 8, Hunter x Hunter (2011) ED 2, The Fable ED 2, Bakuman ED 3, Naruto Shippuden ED 27, Fate/Zero special ED (eps. 18-19) "Manten", Wolf's Rain ED, Claymore ED and some other songs. If we are counting movie endings, then I love all of Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel movie endings by Aimer ("Hana no Uta", "I beg you", "Haru wa Yuku"), "Wadachi" by Spyair from the final Gintama movie, and a lot of Kara no Kyoukai movie endings by Kalafina ("Aria" from movie 4, "Sprinter" from movie 5, "Fairytale" from movie 6, "Oblivious" from movie 1).
To me its often the anime I was into as a teenager more than any of them that I think of, and that's because that's also when I was the most listening to game soundtracks so anime soundtracks fit right in. Like Naruto even has the fight version of Orochimaru's theme, which to me is one of the most JRPG things to happen in anime despite how many modern anime blatantly have in-universe game mechanics. That, One Piece and Detective Conan, especially because of the length of the latter two, define anime OSTs to me, because I've heard those songs countless times.
Though shout out to The World God Only Knows, that made the most grand song to describe one girl's love of books, wonderfully over the top song use that made that scene so memorable and always made the song itself memorable.
Hard dope and amazing atmosphere and soundtracks. so good.
thank you for the band and song name.
this is one of those posts and comments that make me really enjoy Reddit / subreddit comments sections.
dope and thanks again!!
Truly goated tbh
For my favourite ost it has to be Number One in Bleach, it always makes a scene way better.
Kill La kill - Blumenkrantz
Elfen Lied - Opening theme
Samurai Champloo - the entire soundtrack, but especially Obokuri-eeumi.
only my railgun is a blast from the past too, I remember this was my friend's favorite anime song for a long time. I love the Toaru series and wish it was more popular so we can get a full adaptation of the novel.
Bios from Guilty Crown, every time I listen to Guilty Crown music, it makes me want to go back and finish up the series. I didn't finish the anime back then, but now I really want to. This show have amazing music.
*Every Second* by Mina Okabe (A Condition Called Love)
*Rock n Roll Wa Nariyamanai* by Shinsei Kamattechan (Dress-Up Darling)
*On The Way* by Aina The End (Dandadan)
*Color* by Yama (Spy x Family)
*Sound of Snow* by Novelbright (A Sign of Affection)
*Shadowborn* by Hiroyuki Sawano (Solo Leveling)
*The Witch from Mercury* by Takashi Ohmama (Gundam)
*You Say Run* My Hero Academia OST
*Mother* Carole & Tuesday OST
As for OP/EDs, I think as whole I think Golden Kamuy has my favorite collection of them.
The song Bratja? It gives me goosebumps, it truly elevated the scenes. The banger openings snd endings by Asian Kung Fu Generation? Never skipped those!
Just a random thought, slightly relevant to the thread.
Hikari Are OP in Haikyuu
Blue Bird OP in Naruto
Rising Hope OP in The Irregular at Magic High School
"Inner Universe" from Ghost in the shell
"What's up people" from Death Note.
There is not a single bad or average opening in it (DAYS is a musical masterpiece, not other way to describe it) every track is fitting and memorable plus STORYWRITER is simply the greatest background song of all time
●Daten - Yofukashi no Uta
●Seishun Complex - Bocchi the Rock
●hana ni natte - Kusuriya no hitorigoto
●Idol - Oshi no Ko
●zankyou sanka - Kimetsu no Yaiba
Gundam Unicorn, Madoka Magica, Reze Arc and Re Zero.
Incredible OSTs mixed with incredible visuals and directing.

- Frieren
Its one of my recent favorites, with Zoltraak being my most listened one. My love of that show definitely got amplified by the soundtrack.
- Parasyte
I have a hard time choosing my favourite track. It's between I AM and NEXT TO YOU. The former sticking into my mind as one of the most memorable battle themes of all time for me and the latter just being memorable because if the association with the scenes where it plays.
- Angel Beats!
Not only one of my favourite anime and ops of all time but has a good soundtrack as well. My precious treasure, Thousand enemies and Play Ball being my faves. I'd almost say that the anime is too short for how good the soundtrack is.
- Madoka Magica
Also one of the most memorable soundtracks for me, Decretum being one of my favourites and Credens Justitiam is iconic in its own right.
- Higurashi
The main theme in particular is one that comes to my mind when I think about the anime soundtrack specifically. It's got the perfect mood setter for that anime.
- Mushishi
Speaking of soundtracks that are good moodsetters I think Mushishi is one of my favourites among those. While I couldn't tell you specific track names, the soundtrack sets the mood for the show very well in my opinion.
- Fairy Tail
While I have lots of things to say about the anime itself... music has never been one of my complaints. I like the battle themes in particular. The Three Dragonslayers and Against Magic being my favourites among those.
Just like in games, to me a good soundtrack is something that compliments the anime well and fades in the background or one that stands out in a good way
When **Cowboy Bebop** came out, it changed everything for me. The music was so good, and I was really blown away by how well it integrated into the show. I had never seen an anime before that that made such good use of music.
I realize that there are a lot of people here who weren't even born then, but it really was an pivotal moment in the history of anime in my opinion.
I've found their actual music is very hit or miss for me. There's funky undertones in everything, which I do love, but a lot of it is R&B heavy on top of that and sounds far too sparkly/clean for my preference. *But* their fully funky music is *so good* and it seems like that's the kind of music they mostly make for anime. I really hope they get chosen to make more openings in the future. I'm not sure I want them for endings, because most ending songs are calmer and that would probably be their more R&B style.

I really enjoy all of the OPs from Konosuba and DanDaDan. I'm my younger years, I listened to a lot of Seatbelts and Pillows from Cowboy Bebop and FLCL fame.
Monogatari series has great OPs and EDs, but I believe those are the VAs, so it's not like you can go find more outside of the show. Bocchi the Rock however, even being the VAs, does have more outside of the show (Kessoku Band)
Then there's Ghibli movies. The Princess Mononoke soundtrack is perfect. Howls Moving Castle also has an incredible soundtrack. Hisaishi knows how to get the tears flowing.
Ed : ai kotoba and ai wa kusuri : apothecary diaries, hebi : orb, eden : fruits basket, the rumbling: aot, ref: rain : aimer, dango daikazoku: clannad, dairy : sanda, give it back : jjk, kaika : summertime rendering.... Many more .
Soundtracks: chihayafuru, clannad, Naruto, gintama, Jjk, aot , apothecary diaries, fruits basket etc these show have fantastic soundtrack not just one or two but many ....
Favourite artist : Uru, favourite band: back number ( though they hardly sing anime song.)
But the one I just can't skip and love to listen and watch is Ao to Kirameki from my dressup darling. I've made an entire post about how much I love it. It's funny wholesome and lovely
Recently the Kingdom S6 ending visuals are top notch. It looks more like painting than an animation and is so beautiful
Edit: honorable mention to Death Note, it's OP, ED, soundtrack makes the anime goated as well
A lot of the Ghibli ones: Joe Hisashi, Yuji Nomi, Shigeru Nagata, Michio Mamiya, etc.
And of course Kenji Kawai, Shiro Sagisu, Akira Senju, Yōko Kanno, etc.
For openings, my first thoughts go toward *All Saints Street* and the third opening of *Apothecary Diaries* (the one with mirrors and frogs)
There are many more, but I can't think about them off the top of my head.
