So I just finished watching stranger things finale. And i was wondering if there's any anime similar to stranger things like with group of friends solving a mystery, an unusual town and some sort of government conspiracy.
Hi existential_bootham, it seems like you might be looking for new anime to watch!
The users of this subreddit came up with [a chart of anime recommendations for newcomers and veterans](https://i.redd.it/0w1v880jtq661.png) and [an awesome longer flowchart](https://i.redd.it/vdzlkodz19c71.png). Maybe you can find something there that you'll like \^.\^

Apothecary Diaries has one person solving mysteries in a strange palace with some conspiracies.

Probably the closest fits are Steins;Gate and Summer Time Rendering

Good ones. I would add Erased, Shinsekai Yori and Parasyte.

There's a lot of similarities between Elevens backstory and Elfen Lied, and I do seem to recall reading previously that it was inspirational for the show's creators, but I cba to check if that's true or not.
Summertime Render as also suggested by the other user I felt is probably the closest show in tone.

HEAVENLY DELUSIONS! This is the closest to Stranger Things :) Thank me later.

Summertime Rendering.
First half is a murder mystery with supernatural entities and a conspiracy involving many members of the island. Second half is all about how the characters defeat the supernatural enemies by banding together and using their interwoven powers to outsmart their opponents.
Imagine Re:Zero meets Stranger Things meets Lovecraftian creatures mixed with some brain games.

Gravity Falls! It's not "anime" anime, but it's animated and has deep mystery stuff and is seriously amazing.

Ghost Hound: It's got the group of kids solving mystery, a town full of weird supernatural shenanigans, and a government/corporate conspiracy going on.
