I watched 313 Anime in 2025
This is getting to be a tradition at this point. I'd like to share all of the anime I completed this year and the ratings I gave them and hopefully discuss any of their with people on here.
I split them into two categories. 2025 anime as in any anime that concluded in 2025 or was first made available in 2025 and backlog anime from all other years. Note that I also watched One Piece this year and you can see that progress via its specials and movies and such, but One Piece itself is not complete so it is not listed.
My Rating scale is as follows:
1 - Irredeemable
2 - Abysmal
3 - Bad
4 - Below Average
5 - Average
6 - Above Average
7 - Good
8 - Great
9 - Excellent (no anime got 9s and up this year)
10 - Masterpiece and Favorites

Something that I think the OP isnt considering too is that watching so much anime will hurt his enjoyment of a series in one way or another. Fatigue is real, but I would also suspect that after a while, all the anime they watched blends together to the point where if you asked OP what 1 specific anime was about, they couldnt give you anything more than a vague answer.

If I stick to good surprises here's a few:
Ace wo Narae 2 is so much better than the rest of the series due to its masterful expression of grief
Hand Maid Mai is so much better than May despite being cancelled
Arafoo Otoko no Isekai Tsuuhan Seikatsu was fun despite being a trash series
Rock wa Lady no Tashinami deshite was a more fun music series than I would have expected
Watashi ga Koibito ni Nareru Wake Nai jan, Muri Muri! nailing a yuri harem
Medalist and Fermat no Ryouri were both great going in blind.

Tbh I'd love to watch more, just really can't find stuff that clicks with me, unfortunately.
I'll say this much by the Japanese definition of anime which is just animated cartoons it would be anime, but the foreign definition is for series primarily produced in Japan.
If you'd like I'd be happy to help you find something based on what you do like assuming I have some familiarity. I've seen a few thousand so I'm sure there's something.
I think another season of Mushoku Tensei is not far away also, as well as another Jojo anime.
i also watchs a ton of anime, but you dont seem to have genre you like ?
If I broke it down by genre some of my favorites would be: adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, battle shounen, sports, and historical
So after your enjoyment?
My rating depends on whats message the anime wants to deliver and good it does.
Like yuri harmen romcom did it pretty well for example.
Imagine if that series stayed good and cover like 8 volumes instead of 3 + 1.
I do get what you're saying, but let's say one show executes something really well, but something else does it less well and yet is still better. What then?
I said executesation, because i enjoy some genre more then others and it wouldnt be fair if i gave a anime bad rating because i dont like it even though it does a good job.
Im not a fan of battle shonen for example, so i would rate them low if we ask of my enjoyment but i consider if they over the industrie standard or not.
btw i saw you didnt watch BanG dream ave musica, great watch.
it has good drama.
i wouldnt call it idol anime,
at least ave mujica more horror then expected :D
From your comment, you should just start with the soft reboot 'BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!' since it's an independent show made with different audience in mind and you don't need any knowledge from the previous seasons. Give it 3 episodes at least or else you'll miss a lot of context of the show.
Do NOT watch Ave Mujica first cause it's a sequel and it contains spoiler for MyGO on the first episode. As for the early seasons, I won't recommend average person to start with them as most of the time they'll give you a sour experience on the series and you'll end up skipping MyGO.
[I recommend reading my post from last year if you want to go deeper](https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/s/NN5oy49iKl)
As it is it's difficult enough to decide oftentimes between whether to slap a series with a 5 versus a 6 or a 6 versus a 7.
I think 5, 6, and 7 are easy enough to choose between. 5 is a series that can be enjoyable, but lacks traits that make it stand out or truly excel, 6 is a series that would be almost always enjoyable if not for a caveat or two, and 7s are series I consistently enjoyed with perhaps dip here and there.
That's why my 7s and up are relatively uncommon. Not everything deserves them, but that means that my 8s for example are on par with someone else's favorite anime.
Consequently, on average, most seasonals I end up giving 6s or 7s, although have also had more 5s lately. But again, wouldn't at all say that 7 is a low or poor rating as it's a rating I've given even to ones in my extended top favorites.
But everything 8/10 and above is becoming ever more elusive, similar to what you mentioned for this year. The last series in terms of release date I gave anything as high as an 8 was AI no Idenshi from and in 2023.
What comedy gags do you mean?
What exactly do you think is beating it nowadays?
Yusuke getting zapped was very drawn out & too forget for him to use his shoes idea. Dark tournament has many fillery weak fights imo. Most of the foes for team yusuke to fight are very mustache twirling evil in a bland/yawn worthy 1 note way. Poor pacing very OP like dragging things out with characters shocked expressions or writhing in pain in ground dragged out. Predictable fight outcomes etc
Chapter black weak handling of Sensui 7 personalities, feels very rushed and not fleshed out. Yusuke being a demon was poorly executed and totally feels like it comes outta nowhere at that. Convenient asspull type of vibe just so he can beat Sensui. Then he completely dominates Sensui at that. Very boring and anticlimactic. Shoulda at least been a competitive fight
Sensui apparently was sick and soon to die anyways felt like very convenient/outta nowhere thing to reveal as well right after Yusuke beats him. 3 kings arc being another tournament idea is just so repetitive and lazy of a story idea by Togashi. I'll give you that the anime actually sorta tried to flesh this arc out compared to the manga. But even then it omits some final chapters from the manga.
All in all it aged like milk as a battle shounen, many have surpassed it. Not like that in itself is saying much tho ig, sadly
The missing cases are better off skipped, they wound up combining a few of the stronger ones for a more emotional result while skimming over the ones that just dragged down the writing and pacing. I understand not wanting canon material to be skipped, but it is of noticable poorer quality and also before the series decided on its eventual direction.
Zapped? You mean against Suzaku? He used his shoes as a misdirect and was actually guarding with Reiki. Byakko was a bit drawn out as was Suzaku, but otherwise it was decent and by regular standards it was fairly quick. While I like that they tried to add on to Seiryu, Hiei defeating him instantly like in the manga would have been more iconic.
Characters reacting to things are fine because it's what they'd actually be doing. It only becomes a real issue when it hits One Piece levels of padding especially over a long period of time.
The Spirit Detective Saga was an experimental period of Togashi finding his footing as a writer and yet it still manages to be enjoyable due to the characters and the set up.
Chapter Black's reveal with Sensui's personalities is a good one, it not being fleshed out actually makes it work because not meeting them all is more realistic. Yusuke's prone to asspull type power-ups, the demon thing is a bit more out of nowhere, but what is unique about it is what Togashi does with it writing-wise. Yusuke doesn't just get to forget about it and has to deal with it interfering in his life on many levels and he also gets robbed of his "victory" and hates that.
Sensui being sick was unnecessary, but a young man trying to make a change in the world when he's at death's door is more realistic than timing it to his successor being made available to oppose him. I think rather than adds it muddies the waters and makes you think about things more.
Fleshing it out was for the best, but it does take a noticeable dip at a certain point after the tournament is announced. I think Yusuke coming up with the idea based on his experience isn't a bad thing, but considering Togashi's circumstances it is what it is. There's been a recent OVA to restore the omitted content. I would have preferred it kept in, but ending the series more definitively with Keiko was the right thing to do.
Being highly rated by me doesn't mean I think it's nearly perfect. It's that I think it's that good and that enjoyable. It holds up on rewatches, the characters are all fantastic, the animation is great, it has good music, and is just plain a lot of fun. It's also complete.
Aged like milk is an overstatement even if you want to be critical of it. What exactly is a series that has recently surpassed it?
'the missing cases are better off skipped' ya i don't think so. we don't need to rush the battle shouney aspects of the Gnekai traning to happen sooner. why rush to get to the more generic battle stuff anyways. it's not like i think so highly of the eventual story direction anyways
ya Suzaku. yeah the byakko fight was poorly drawn out. i thought suzaku zapping yusuke tho was very drawn out and insufferable to put up wtih this when watching on rewatch.
just bc reating to things is what characters would be doing doesn't mean it's engaging to put up with and see it drawn out lol.
'and it still manages to be enjoyable' that's good then u still think so but i really don't think so on rewatch. if anything i rolled my eyes the most with this arc on rewatch. the reveal of his personalities isn't a good one to me. it's pretty cheesy if anything to me
if even u admit/think Yusuke is prone to ass pull powerups then why should i think it's a good thing ofc. it's clearly something i think poorly of. him hating he got robbed of his victory is just very generic battle shouneny tropes. it's in character ofc, but it's nothing special in the writing dept imo.
anyways it just doens't hold up on my rewatch. i prob was better off not doing it so bc my opinion about it only went down. the characters are pretty generic but ig they're entertaining enough to not drop the series,
even on rewatch. it would be an overstatement if it was coming from you but it was coming from me to say it aged like milk. that's totally true that i feel that way and i don't take it back. if anything i think i'm being pretty generous to this story.
Ig it's entertaining enough to finish but that's not really a high bar to clear for me tbh
If it's not a high bar then why is the industry struggling to clear it? The last anime I rated a 10 was in 2009.
I'm not giving it props for "actually feels like it's trying to do something" to me that seems like the bare minimum of an achievement to me for an anime I don't drop.
Let's just use episode 1 as an example. What episode of what show in this past year of anime has been better written than it?
You're talking about Kunichiwa Anne? I watched it actually for this remake. It was alright, but it was a bit too inconsistent of a series. It would find its groove after taking too long to do so and then Anne would suddenly be elsewhere.
6/10s are still an above average score and one that indicates there's something worthy about it but there's something noticeable holding it back and not all episodes are entertaining for some reason.
Anyway, how many episodes a day do u watch?
Anne Shirley, I shared my thoughts about in another post in this thread so I'll paste them in here. It's a messy adaptation that's worse than the one from 1979 (which is considered to be one of if not the best adaptations of the material, despite it being a bit too slow early on and yes I know it only covers 1 novel vs 3, but it does that in twice the time this show got for 3). I've read the novels and they skip a lot of content to the point where the plot progression doesn't even make sense after a certain point. I think I would have rated it more highly early on, but as it went on it started to drop and aside from a few standout episodes it didn't do anything to run counter to that.
Kaiju probably got a bit of continued good will from its previous season, but it's largely a well-made shounen with a slightly fresh theming that uses its setting well despite its slight changes from reality and has a likable larger cast. S2's storytelling was noticeable worse than S1. Dandadan is far from generic though, from its production to its storytelling to its focus. I'm not sure what series you were watching. I liked S1 somewhat more of it as well, having given it a higher 8 score.
I watch whatever amount I feel like, but I typically don't let new anime episodes linger into the next day unless I have a good reason.
