Starter anime for my girlfriend and I

So my girlfriend's been interested in watching some anime with me but I don't know what to start her off on (preferably something in Netflix ) if anyone has recommendations that would be great also she did love avatar the last air bender so maybe something similar

I think you could look into Hunter x Hunter! It has a similar vibe in it that the characters vary in age, and sort of have to go on a long journey as a group to learn new skill, powers, gain knowledge, and overcome various villains and obstacles etc. The characters all have unique backstories and the setting changes often and is in a unique world. It has serious and funny moments as well, and is a widely liked and enjoyed anime! I think often recommended as a “starter” anime

Also, OP, have you seen any anime? I would say if you have any know some general themes and styles or topics covered that she may like that could be helpful! For example I really love yokai based anime/spirits etc. some people love food animes and so on. Any idea if she may be interested in a specific topic?

Yeah I watch a lot but I tend to lean more into violent Animes (AOT,death note ,edgerunners ) and that's not really her thing

Some other she may like just based on general like a group of friends/on a journey accomplishing something:

-Golden Kamuy (though no powers/fantasy, also a mature rating)
-Bungo Stray Dogs (more fantasy/powers but less journey across a landscape vibes)
-Tower of God (could actually be a good vibe match!)
-Yona of the Dawn (and a new season announced after a long time)

Or just really chill adventure ones too like Delicious in Dungeon as like friends/big cast on an adventure!

My first anime was Inuyasha, pretty sure that’s on Netflix. It’s a good adventure, collect things, fight some bad guys along the way kind of anime. A newer one would be Frieren.

I dont know how are you both with Romance but I recently watched Fragrant flower blooms with dignity with my gf and we liked it very much. Its a Drama/romance and altought its from Netflix it is very well written and its nothing complicated for the start.

Death note is the best starter anime. It’ll get you hooked from ep 1. The plot is strong, thriller is the heartbeat. its a short anime, and i think it is available on netflix.

I started with death note and got completely hooked to anime

Barakamon - a good slice of life anime.

For the romance genre - tonikawa, the fragrant flower blooms with dignity, 365 days to the wedding, the ice guy and his cool female colleague, a sign of affection.

I'm not sure which of them are on Netflix, but these are some good anime.

Labyrinth of Magi if she liked kinda elemental power thingy anime.

Regarding romance I can recommend Komi san, Horimiya or Flower Bloom, so great.

And I will finish by 86 (wholesome mecha with romance and huge moving plot) and Frieren (magic fantasy, great characters and music) two masterpieces too.

School days. It’s a love story in a school setting. Just a bit of drama to spice things up. It’s kinda old but would recomment to every couple.

You should try The Legend of Korra if she loved Avatar. It's the sequel and has similar world-building and action. Another good one is Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, great story, adventure, and character growth that’s easy to get into.
